I know, I know. This sounds sort of insane, but it's actually 100% true. 🤯

The brain itself can't feel any pain at all, since it doesn't have ANY nociceptors (pain receptors). So, where does it hurt in the case of migraines, concussions, and so on, so on?

Well, a whole bunch of options here:
- The skin and muscles on the head ❗️
- The skull 💀
- The three membranes (meninges) covering the brain 🧠

Basically, the brain works as a pain-processing machine, registering the pain in other parts of the body.

But... Hey... If it feels the pain in other parts of the body... Is it really different from feeling pain in itself? Like, would we even be able to feel the difference between a hurting brain membrane and a hurting brain? And what would we even do with such information if everything is closed up in the skull anyway?

So many questions... 🤔

Did you know you can become allergic to red meat if a tick bites you? 🥩

Moreover, in many cases the allergic reaction is delayed, meaning that the person experiences the first symptoms (usually skin itching and redness) 3 to 6 hours after eating meat. ⏰
(https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4235259/)

The allergic reaction was reported as a response to lamb, pork, and beef. Fish and poultry didn't trigger a reaction.

Of course, not all ticks have this effect, and not all tick bites will lead to such inconveniences—but it's still good to know about the possibility! 🤔

Sometimes the tiniest improvements bring the best results, just because they're so easy to stick to! 👍

Massive investments and exhausting commitments are cool and all, but they’re hard to stick to—and not so pleasant to live with. Sometimes, tiny changes like the ones mentioned in this list can give you so much more, just because they’re easy to put to work!

Have you ever noticed how writing something by hand makes you more likely to remember it? 🔖

That's explained by the fact that actually writing something triggers several parts of the brain—and several types of memory. 🧠

Compared to just typing something, when all you've got is a generic image of the information plus a series of identical taps, handwriting gives you a unique image AND a unique set of movements that created that image. Combine that with the things you imagine when you write, and there you go—a much more solid and durable idea, memo, task, or goal.💡

When you do this regularly, the brain trains itself to easily activate and combine different types of memory, which gives you an overall boost in performance down the road! 🚀

Coffee is stereotypically seen as the drink of creatives, right? ☕️
(Probably because it helps to stay up into the late-night hours and MAYBE get something creative done. 😅)

Anyway, here's something cool to think through.

Studies reported that drinking green tea is awesome for memory and focus, and the L-theanine in tea acts as a counter-balance to the caffeine in tea, leading to a smoother effect without jitters. All of this is just awesome for creativity! (http://www.eurekaselect.com/149010/article)

Moreover, black tea seems to be fabulous in this matter too. One study reported that people who drink tea can come up with more ideas and solutions when they face a creative challenge. 💡
(https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0950329317303051?via%3Dihub)

How does this work, though? Well, it may be because in some cultures there's a stereotype that people who drink tea are smart, refined, innovative, and elegant. Then, people who drink tea may unconsciously try to live up to this expectation. Or maybe it's the phytochemicals in tea that promote creativity on their own. Hard to be sure, but hey—does it really matter, if it works? 😉

The question is... Are we ready to accept the risks? 🤔

But it's a double-edged sword. It could cut away human pain and suffering—or hurt us all beyond repair. Is it worth the risk?

So you need some damn help with your fricking pain? 🤬

For real, though, studies revealed that swearing could help a bit! (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/19590391/)

The authors of this study suggested that this painkilling effect could be because swearing triggers a "fight-or-flight" reaction in the brain, and this somehow cancels the link between the fear of pain and the feeling of pain, making it hurt less in the end. 😌 Or maybe this could be due to the release of some additional stress hormones with painkilling action.

Science is #$&% fun! 🤪

Moreover, the same scientists that had carried out the first study then did a new one a few years later (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/22078790/) and discovered that the less frequently you normally swear, the more powerful the pain-killing effect will be if you swear when it hurts. 💪

So, quick question here... Do YOU swear when it hurts? What do you think about this natural pain relief strategy? 🤔

Bizarre, yes. Effective? Let's sort this out! 🤔

There’s a whole bunch of bizarre remedies for the back that have been passed down through the generations—but are they really effective?

A huge meta-analysis of over 300,000 participants reported that there's a link between caffeine consumption and the risk of depression.

(Link: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/26339067/)

A huge meta-analysis of over 300,000 participants reported that there's a link between caffeine consumption and the risk of depression. Moreover, the association was dose-dependent, meaning the more caffeine you get—the lower your risk of depression. 😁

(Well, at least until a certain point.)

On average, the risk drops by 8% for each cup of coffee per day, and the best effect is seen at the range of 68 mg to 509 mg of caffeine per day. How much is that, actually?

Here's a rough estimate:

Espresso, 1 fl. oz - 63.6 mg
Americano, 6-8 fl. oz - 77 mg
Cappucino, 12 fl. oz - 154 mg
Latte -> depends on the number of espresso shots in the drink

In a nutshell, it's safe to say that 2-3 cups of your usual coffee will likely get you into that sweet depression-lowering caffeine intake range. 😉

AWESOME opportunity. Seriously.

Many parents don't think too much about their kids’ milk teeth. They just let them fall out, give the kid something from the Tooth Fairy, then throw away the tooth or save it as a keepsake. Now, scientists have found that there might be a wiser approach.

Have you ever wondered where does the Tooth Fairy come from? 😉

Having a hard time winding down to fall asleep?

Put all screens away and pick up a good book for 10-15 minutes! 📗

Fiction books usually work better. By sending your imagination out on an adventure into a fictional world, you help your mind relax and let go of the day's problems and worries. ☺️

Just make sure to avoid newspapers and stuff like that. Don't need no bad news before sleep! 😤

Is sugar really the worst food for dental health? Do you actually need to pull out your wisdom teeth? How many times should you really brush per day?

Good news: fresh studies suggest that type 2 diabetes can be reversed, hurray! 🥳

And you don't need any supplements, drugs, surgeries, gadgets, NADA. The solution is 100% free. 💯

(Also, plot twist: apparently, the root cause isn't in the pancreas!)

For decades, scientists and doctors considered the pancreas to be the main culprit of the issue. Well, it seems that's not 100% true.

Have you ever heard that old phrase, like laughing makes you live longer and stuff? 😃

Well, it might actually be true—and not just thanks to the positive emotions and good vibes!

Some sources estimate that a full-blown "belly laugh" (the one that makes your sides hurt 🤣) can improve blood flow throughout the whole body by up to 20%. The quick breathing, the forceful exhaling, the tension in your muscles—all of that works as some sort of extra pump that sends your blood rushing all around.

As a result, all of your organs get more nutrients, more oxygen, more immune cells, and more everything, basically. Awesome, right?!

So, quick question now... What was the last thing that made you LAUGH? Not just smile silently to yourself, but literally LAUGH OUT LOUD?

Share in the comments, let's spread the fun! 😁

Mondays are stressful. 🤯

In fact, Mondays are soooo stressful that there's a confirmed higher risk of people having a heart attack on this specific day of the week.

(Or at least that was true when we all had daytime jobs and everything, hehe. 😅)

A huge study (https://jech.bmj.com/content/59/2/109) published in 2005 in the BMJ reported that, overall, people are 1% more likely to have a cardiovascular event on Mondays. Not a HUGE increase, but still!

The same study reported that the risk is 40% higher in the mornings (6 AM to noon) and a 45% boost during winter (especially January).

Scientists suggested this effect could have something to do with spikes in blood cortisol, the body's main stress hormone. More stress = more risk of having a heart attack, thus Mondays, mornings, and winter. 💔

Now, here's the interesting part now that we've got your attention. 😉

A recent American study (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6399053/) reported that neither Mondays nor mornings were a risk factor for cardiovascular events anymore. 🤔

It's hard to say if that's due to the study's design or something, but there's a good chance this result reflects the changes in how we all work in general. Specifically, more and more people are moving away from a traditional Mon-Fri in-office 9-to-5 schedule to remote work, freelancing, and flexible schedules. In short, the big & scary MONDAY is slowly becoming less of a monster bit by bit. 😅

Anyway, how's your Monday going so far? 😉

Can you imagine having all your teeth pulled out as a "gift"? Nope, that's not a plot twist from a horror movie or something.

It's time for some weird history facts!

Forget about jewelry, flowers, household items, and Honeymoon trips. The perfect wedding gift is actually getting all your teeth removed for good. 😬
