Rep. Cindy Axne is at the center of controversy after a recent New York Times investigation uncovered 13 financial transactions undertaken by Axne or her husband that could indicate conflicts of interest. The Times report uncovered trades in shares of Visa, Wells Fargo, and JPMorgan Chase, among other financial firms that she has oversight power over on the House Financial Services Committee.

Other questionable trades made by Axne were in the shares of various insurance and food companies that she has oversight over on the House’s Agriculture Committee and Financial Services Subcommittee on Housing, Community Development and Insurance

You don’t need to be a political savant to understand the proposal is a naked effort to buy the votes Democrats need this fall and raise Biden’s ultra-low polling.

Democrats will likely tell folks they will make the “rich” pay for it. The sad part is it will not be the rich paying for it. Everyone will be paying for it, including people who chose not to go to college, which is 63% of the country’s population.

Put another way: Should middle-class Americans pay $20,000 to subsidize the graduate degrees of people in families making a quarter of a million dollars? All to save Biden from his own low polling?

Iowa Field Report has exclusively obtained tax filings showing Mathis’ family business billed millions of dollars to Wartburg College while Mathis sat on the board of the college.

Liz Mathis joined the board of Wartburg College in 2006 and still sits on the board today.

Every year since Mathis joined the board, the college has paid her business hundreds of thousands of dollars for “Marketing Consulting” AND “Marketing and Advertising.” As of 2019, the most recent filing available, Wartburg paid AMPERAGE/ME&V over $4 million.

I decided to run for Congress in 2020 because I saw the chaos and dysfunction in Washington, DC, and was worried about the direction our country was headed and what it meant for the next generation. I ran to stand up for working families and taxpayers, keep our streets and neighborhoods safe, and ensure Iowa’s rural and agriculture communities have a seat at the table.

The chaos and dysfunction in Washington is alive and well under President Biden and Speaker Pelosi. We’ve experienced the horrific results of just a year and a half of complete Democratic control: record high inflation, $5 gas, a nationwide spike in crime, mounting debt, open borders, and America taking a backseat on the world stage. The Biden-Pelosi agenda is making our country unrecognizable and robbing our communities of opportunity — we cannot afford another two years of their radical policies and disrespect for taxpayers.

Heitshusen was a reporter with WHO-13 for several years, even reporting about the Polk County Attorney’s Office’s attempt to keep court records secret. But now that Heitshusen, a Democrat running for Iowa House, has a campaign to run, she thinks this whole “public access” thing is overrated.

The judge solved Heitshusen’s problem by just canceling the hearing, so we’ll just have to wait until trial to see what Heitshusen thinks is so damning. (Or maybe she’ll plead out before then.) But the fact that Heitshusen even asked the judge to keep the press out is amazing.

Facing widespread backlash from rising gas prices, President Joe Biden announced in late March that his administration would release millions of barrels from the country’s Strategic Petroleum Reserves. The intent was to augment American gasoline supplies and, in turn, lower prices at the pump for everyday Americans. Democratic state house candidate Sonya Heitshusen recklessly discharged a handgun in her home, shattering her sliding glass door, according to a criminal complaint obtained by Iowa Feld Report. The incident occurred on Monday, June 27th, around 11:20 pm.

According to the affidavit, the handgun involved in the incident, a black G***k 21, did not belong to Heitshusen and did not have a safety. The report also indicated that alcohol was a factor in the event.

A GOP field office in Cedar Rapids was vandalized over the weekend, with a rock thrown through a window, leaving a nine-inch wide hole.

The Republican National Committee has condemned the vandalism, which it attributed to the “far left.” “Political violence of any sort has no place in a civil society,” an RNC spokesman said in a press release. “Monday’s vandalism against an RNC field office in Cedar Rapids underscores the dangers of unchecked rhetoric against ideological dissent – and its threat to Iowa Nice.”

Although it is not yet clear who is responsible for the vandalism and what motives were involved, it does fall into broader pattern of violence against conservatives and Republicans emerging in recent months.
