Here's what you can expect...

At least two of our guests ignored poor career advice, followed their dreams and became respected film industry insiders. One of them now has an Academy Award for Best Picture. Our other guests have:

- created an influential, global network built on an attitude of gratitude;
- taken the mantra location, location, location to a whole new level;
- do actually know what NFTs are and can explain them.

All of them have overcome "No".

Both of our hosts pinch themselves and ask: "how did we get here?"

All of us are adapting to whatever Covid-19 throws at us.
If any of this resonates, then this podcast is for you. Emerging Talent, what do you want to know? Ask us: [email protected]

Thank you to our guests who launched episode one:

Executive Producer of the King's Speech: Mark Foligno
Founder, Producers Without Borders Kayvan Mashayekh
Founder, TheLocation Guide: Murray Ashton
Co-founder, FilmChain: Irina Albita
Oscar winner and producer of the most successful independent British film ever: Gareth Ellis-Unwin

This Smith and Herbert Production in association with Watts Where Media was recorded at Focus 2021 in December 2021.

The film finance panel at FOCUS this year will be discussing that one question every Producer and filmmaker wants to know the answer to: How do you fund your film?
This session unpacks the journey a project goes through in securing funding. How to navigate multi-country co-productions, the specifics of UK co-production rules and other finance structuring tools available to a Producer. What does a buyer look for in analysing as secure an investment as possible? What films should be financed or invested in and how does the finance plan support that?
Check out the full content of 50+ sessions and speakers from the FOCUS website.

Registration is free.

Introducing a Film Studies Degree Program Dedicated to Fostering New Film Professionals in Asia.

This year, the Busan International Film Festival added the BIFF Film Academy (BFA) program, which offers an even more systematic and long-term education, and has inherited the AFA’s objective of fostering new film talents in Asia. The BFA is a novel educational program that fuses the film festival platform and a degree program in a way that has never been attempted by other existing international film festivals. The program will be jointly operated with the Im Kwon Taek College of Arts and Film, which has been a partner university with the festival for a long time.

In the area? Culturally rich Liverpool in the UK supporting emerging film talent.

A film event will take over Liverpool's famous Lewis's Building for a weekend of independent films and local food.

Cinema in The City, presented by FACT, brings the best independent cinema to hidden locations across Liverpool and showcases emerging talent from local filmmakers, alongside food and drink from local traders.

A popular ticketed event, Cinema in The City returns this autumn - this time set at the historic Lewis's Building.

Cinema in the City will take place in November
