Not getting everything checked off a weekly to-do list can be frustrating - whether it’s due to life circumstances or feelings of procrastination which we all experience.

Either way, it’s important to give ourselves grace in these situations and to push forward when needed - sometimes taking that little time for yourself instead of ticking another thing off of your list is much more vital 🤎💫

The system is still fundamentally racist and needs to be reformed in order to prevent the brutal violence and death that Black people face every day.

The outcome of this trial is a step in the right direction - but there is so much more to still be done.

In the meantime, I hope you’re all taking care of yourselves during what has been a very distressing time 🤎

Being kind to yourself is a must 👑

If there is anything this pandemic has taught us, it's too be greatful for what we have and to focus on that more than being critical of the things we want to change.

Self improvement is never a bad thing but it's all about perspective!

Wishing you all a great day 🤎💫

The documentary was long-awaited and spoke to an issue that needed to be addressed and continues to be prevalent among Black women today. However, in just under 30 minutes and with Rochelle at the helm, I do wonder if the documentary would’ve benefitted from a different approach which allowed for more discussion: https://blackgirlsaroundtheworld.com/2021/04/01/review-dispatches-the-black-maternity-scandal/

Black women are four times more likely to die during pregnancy and childbirth compared to white women. It’s a statistic that many of us have heard before and was something reiterated in Channel 4’s…

It’s a term that has been widely debated - but is it time to officially ditch ‘BAME’?

The racial disparities commission are reported to propose to Boris Johnson that the term no longer be used, in their much-anticipated report which is due to be published this week.

The Telegraph reported that a source said the acronym - standing for black, Asian and minority ethnic - had become "unhelpful and redundant", with the blanket term potentially masking the lived experiences of individual groups.

The source also mentioned that companies increasing the number of BAME staff they employ feel there is no need to tackle other systemic racial issues and that using the term alone can hide major disparities between ethnic groups as well as people within the same ethnic group.

What are your thoughts on the term - do you feel it’s outdated or necessary?

“When I first went natural, my edges had to be laid, my kinks had to be transformed and my shrinkage had to be minimised. In the process of abandoning one harmful beauty standard, I ended up replacing it with another" https://blackgirlsaroundtheworld.com/2021/03/23/texturism-eurocentric-beauty-standards/

Our hair is more than just a beauty statement – our hair is our history, our protector, and most simply ours. We must make sure we are all celebrated and accounted for, writes Tamara Morrison
