Mwea and Kirinyaga people should be very careful not to fall into the trap of selling all their rice to the government no matter how many shillings they add to the price.
Selling the commodity to the government will take away the product from common people who rely on it for business and the many young men who rely on rice mills for daily wages.
Its worth noting that even though rice is cultivated in mwea those who have rice fields most of them have no other land to cultivate other crops and so a big percentage of rice grown in mwea ends up being consumed in the same county.
Selling this commodity to the government will mean that the rice will start being accesses by the who is who in the society and therefore hunger will again become a norm especially among the very same rice farmers and their families.
Before you take your rice to the government for a few coins more...think about your daughter who sells rice at the highway rice stores, think about your son who dries rice at the rice store, think about the private rice mills and all its employees...think about the local economy.
