By this letter, LightHouse Chapel International has rescinded its decision to gift one of its pastors a car after the pastor was seen criticizing the church.

According to the church, they willingly gifted the car to him without a transfer of ownership. So basically, the car still belongs to the church and they need their car back.

Two jailed 24 years for manslaughter on 90yr old woman over witchcraft accusations

The High Court in Tamale has reached a verdict in the case of the brutal killing of Akua Denteh in Kafaba, a town situated in the Savannah Region.

Following 3 years intense trial, the court found Hajia Serena Mohammed and Latifa Bumaye guilty of manslaughter in connection with the tragic incident, which was fueled by suspicions of witchcraft.

The ruling, delivered on Tuesday, July 4th, 2023, sentenced Hajia Serena Mohammed to 12 years of imprisonment on each of the two counts associated with the manslaughter charges. Similarly, Latifa Bumaye received a concurrent 12-year sentence on each of the two counts.

The convictions stem from the shocking attack on Akua Denteh, who was wrongly accused of practicing witchcraft. The incident, which unfolded in Kafaba, garnered nationwide attention due to its distressing nature and the broader issue of belief in witchcraft within the northern communities.

Speaking to Akua Denteh’s son, Mr. Mahama Salami expressed his satisfaction with the judgment, highlighting its significance in addressing such cases and ensuring justice for his mother.

The killing of Akua Denteh sent shockwaves throughout the nation, igniting outrage among human rights activists and communities advocating for the protection of vulnerable individuals.

The incident underscored the urgent need for education and awareness campaigns aimed at dispelling harmful superstitions and combating the persistence of belief in witchcraft.

The convictions of Hajia Serena Mohammed and Latifa Bumaye for the manslaughter of Akua Denteh reflect the unwavering commitment of the judiciary to hold individuals accountable for such heinous crimes.

Tamale Metro Assembly Hands Over 700 Dual Desks To Basic Schools

The Metropolitan Chief Executive of Tamale, Sule Salifu, has handed over about seven hundred (700) dual desks to ten public basic schools in the northern regional capital. The move is part of efforts to mitigate the furniture deficit in the metropolis.

The Mayor at a short ceremony to present the furniture to assembly members of the beneficiary schools said the gesture forms part of the assembly’s commitment to creating conducive teaching and learning environment in the metropolis.

“We want to thank the Ministry of Local Government and the Ministry of Finance for supporting the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly to procure these chairs.”

He noted the assembly last week made a similar donation of furniture to other basic schools in partnership with ActionAid Ghana.

According to him, the furniture deficit has now been reduced significantly from 15,000 to about 1000 since he assumed office in 2021.

Mr. Sule Salifu has therefore urged residents of the beneficiary communities to safeguard them to serve the intended purpose for which it has been provided.

“We are told in many of the communities, these chairs are stolen and sold to scrab dealers and the wooden part is used for firewood. I want to say that it is not the best for our children as far as access to quality education is concerned and we want the chiefs and opinion leaders, school management teams, assembly members and unit committees to be interested in the welfare of these furniture” he appealed.

He further assured the assembly will continue to do its part in terms of the provision of furniture and other learning materials to the basic schools for the students to become very useful to society in the near future.

The MCE disclosed the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly is expected to receive an amount of GHS4.2 million this year for priority developmental initiatives through the Social Cohesion (SOCO) Project executed in the Gulf of Guinea Northern Regions and funded by the World Bank.

He stated the assembly intends to use a chunked of the resources to invest in the provision of furniture for eradicate the menace of schools without furniture in the metropolis.

Sule Salifu added 2.1million cedis of the fund would be used for the construction of state of the art modern astroturf for the Zogbeli cluster of schools.

He maintained the project when completed will enable the youth in the sporting industry to unearth their talents and other socioeconomic activities can be organized at the facility.

Alhassan Suhuyini calls for Unity In NDC Ahead Of 2024 Elections

The Member of Parliament for Tamale North Constituency, Hon Alhassan Sayibu Suhuyini, has called for unity and calm within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Northern Region ahead of 2024 general elections.

The plea of Mr. Suhuyini is contained in a statement sighted by in the wake of a melee between the NDC Northern Regional Secretary, Mohammed Abdul Salam and a section of the party’s youth in Tamale.

The youth is said to have accused the Regional Secretary of embezzling some monies given to him by the Tamale North MP to support the NDC Gusheigu constituency party to celebrate this year’s Eid-ul Adha festival.

The youth is said to have accused the Regional Secretary of embezzling some monies given to him by the Tamale North MP to support the NDC Gusheigu constituency party to celebrate this year’s Eid-ul Adha festival.

The Gusheigu constituency was among seven orphan constituencies the NDC legislator donated an amount of GHS10,000 each to support their preparations towards the commemoration of the Islamic festival.

Information gathered by Kesmi News, the NDC youth on a WhatsApp group alleged that an amount of GHS9,000 cedis was presented by the Regional Secretary to the Gusheigu constituency.

Mr. Abdul Salam through his lawyers has however denied the allegations and also demand a retraction and an unqualified apology from the youth or he will take legal actions against them to redeem his reputation.

Reacting to the development in his statement, Hon Suhuyini said, “It has come to my attention painfully, that a token support I provided some Northern Region Orphan Constituency PCs, through the Party Regional Administration, during the just ended Eid-Adha is sadly generating confusion that might lead to avoidable litigation.”

He added, “It’s because of such unfortunate misconceptions, misrepresentations and misinformation that I mostly concentrate only on my beloved Tamale North Constituency. I only discreetly and sparingly reach out to other constituencies, especially when I’m requested to.”

The MP has therefore implored all parties involved in the social media onslaught to seek amicable cooperation and peacefully resolve the issue in the spirit of comradeship.

“In order not to discourage me, my benefactors and others from supporting future political activities in the Region, I wish to dispassionately appeal to all involved or affected by the unfortunate development, to kindly look pass each other’s shortcomings and seek amicable cooperation to peacefully resolve the issue in the spirit of comradeship.

“As can be attested to by all in the Region, I dislike confusion of any sort within the NDC and so I’m distressed that my well-intended decision to offer support to seven (7) orphaned Parliamentary Candidates in the N/R should become a source of conflict” he lamented.

“As a student of Conflict Analysis and Resolution, I do know and appreciate the fact that, it is our collective responsibility to promote peace, harmony, and reconciliation. Let us not allow the actions of a few individuals to overshadow the long-standing history of coexistence and neighbourliness that our region has proudly upheld.Journalism plays a crucial role in shaping public opinion, and it is imperative that the media act ethically and with a deep sense of responsibility”.
