Only buyers with National Identification Numbers would benefit as FG commenced the sale of 30, 000 metric tonnes of milled rice.

The Federal Government has announced that only buyers with National Identification Numbers would benefit as it commenced the sale of 30, 000 metric tonnes of milled rice to Nigerians at a subsidised rate of N40,000 per 50kg bag.

President Bola Tinubu, represented by the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, stated during the flag-off ceremony on Thursday, that the rice intervention will be sold strictly on a “one person, one bag” basis.

Kyari explained that the 50kg bags of rice, priced at a flat rate of ₦40,000, are part of the Federal Government’s effort to provide subsidised milled rice to help alleviate the ongoing food crisis in Nigeria.

Following this, the Ministry of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, through its Human Resources Management Department, instructed civil servants to register for the purchase of the food item.

Unlock the Potential of Your Farm with Goat Rearing

Goats are among the most versatile and resilient animals in livestock farming, offering unparalleled benefits to farmers. One of the unique aspects of goat farming is their remarkable reproductive potential. Goats can give birth to multiple offspring, often twins or triplets, and they can do so more than once a year. This high fertility rate makes goats a highly efficient and profitable option for farmers seeking to expand their livestock with minimal investment.

Beyond their reproductive prowess, goats are relatively easy to manage. They adapt well to various environmental conditions, from arid to humid climates, and require less space and feed compared to larger livestock. Their ability to thrive on a wide range of vegetation, including shrubs and weeds, means they can graze in areas unsuitable for other animals, turning otherwise unproductive land into a resource.

Additionally, goats are valuable for more than just meat production. They provide milk, which is highly nutritious and can be used to make a variety of dairy products like cheese and yogurt. Their hides are also valuable, serving as a source of leather. For those looking to diversify income streams, goat farming offers opportunities in breeding, dairy, and fiber production, particularly from breeds like the Angora and Cashmere goats.

Moreover, the market demand for goat meat and products is consistently high, driven by cultural preferences and the growing recognition of the health benefits associated with goat milk and meat, which are lower in cholesterol and fat compared to beef and cow's milk.

Rearing goats is not just an agricultural activity; it's a strategic move towards sustainable farming. Their efficient reproduction, adaptability, and multiple product streams make them a sound investment, particularly for farmers in regions with challenging climates. By embracing goat farming, you're not only contributing to food security but also ensuring a steady income and a better livelihood.

NYSC Denies Claims of Rejecting Corps Members Without SLT License in Gombe

The Gombe State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Chinwe Nwachuku, has refuted claims that corps members of the 2024 Batch B Stream II were denied participation in the three-week orientation course due to a lack of Science Laboratory Technology (SLT) licenses.

In an interview at the Amada Akko Local Government Area temporary camp, Nwachuku called the reports "a blatant lie" and confirmed that corps members without the SLT license were not excluded from the orientation. She stated, “Corps members with SLT were registered on my camp.”

Nwachuku urged those spreading false information to verify their facts before disseminating such news and wished all corps members well.

Several corps members at the Amada camp supported Nwachuku's statement. Clement Daniel, from Benue State, confirmed his registration despite not having an SLT license. He stated, “I was registered without any delay, and the claims of rejection are unfounded.”

David Lami, another corps member, also reported that she was registered without her license. “I have been here for four days, and I was registered without any issues. People should stop spreading false news to avoid confusion.”

Alfred Abosede, from Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology, and Raliat Adama, from Kano State Polytechnic, similarly reported successful registration without an SLT license. Both emphasized that the rumors about license-related rejections are false and urged against the spread of misinformation.

17-Year-Old Herdsboy Drowns in Floodwaters Following Days of Heavy Rainfall

In a heartbreaking incident that has cast a shadow over the Kurra Falls Ward of Barkin Ladi, a 17-year-old herdsboy, Nasiru Tahiru, tragically lost his life after being swept away by floodwaters. The young secondary school student, who had returned home for the holidays, was engaged in his routine cattle-rearing duties—a tradition deeply rooted in Fulani culture—when the disaster struck.

According to reports from the victim's family, the area experienced relentless rainfall that lasted over three days, causing local rivers to swell and overflow. On the fateful day, Nasiru, along with his herd of cattle, was caught off guard by the sudden surge of floodwaters. In a desperate attempt to save himself, he climbed a small tree, hoping to escape the rising waters.

His elder brother, who witnessed the dangerous situation, quickly rushed to his aid. He urged Nasiru to descend from the tree so that they could dive together and escape the fast-approaching flood. Despite his brother's valiant efforts, the situation proved too perilous. Nasiru tragically slipped from his brother’s grasp and was swept away by the powerful currents.

The incident has left the local community in mourning, as they grapple with the loss of a promising young life. It serves as a somber reminder of the dangers posed by extreme weather conditions and the urgent need for increased awareness and preparedness in vulnerable communities.

How Dealers Frustrated BUA’s Plan to Slash Cement Prices to" N3,500"

Abdul Samad Rabiu, Chairman of BUA Group, has revealed that his company's attempt to reduce cement prices from N4,500 to N3,500 per bag was thwarted by cement dealers.

Speaking at the firm's 8th annual general meeting in Abuja, Rabiu disclosed that while BUA Group had sold over a million tons of cement to dealers at the reduced price of N3,500 per bag, these dealers sold the cement to consumers at prices ranging from N7,000 to N8,000 per bag.

Rabiu attributed the failure of the pricing policy to the dealers’ exploitation. He stated, “A lot of the dealers took advantage of that policy. Instead of passing on the lower prices to customers, they sold at double the price we provided to them. We sold more than a million tons at N3,500 before realizing the dealers’ practices."

The BUA Chairman also cited external factors that complicated the price reduction, including the devaluation of the naira and the removal of fuel subsidies. “We wanted to maintain the lower price, but we were forced to abandon the policy due to the rapid depreciation of the naira—from around N600 to N1,800 to the US dollar—and other economic challenges,” Rabiu explained.

The situation has led to a significant increase in cement prices, with a 50kg bag now exceeding N6,000 in Benin.

Kaduna State Government Urges Immediate Evacuation of Flood-Prone Areas Following Destructive Floods in Zaria and Sabon-Gari LGAs

The Kaduna State Government has urgently called on residents in flood-prone areas to evacuate immediately, following a devastating flood that impacted the Sabon-Gari and Zaria Local Government Areas on Monday.

Addressing journalists on Tuesday night, the Executive Secretary of the Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Dr. Usman Hayatu-Mazadu, outlined the state’s efforts to mitigate the flood's impact, including desilting drainage systems and conducting sensitization campaigns. Despite early predictions and warnings from the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), over 200 houses were destroyed due to some residents' refusal to relocate.

Dr. Hayatu-Mazadu emphasized the importance of community cooperation to ensure safety, urging residents, particularly farmers, to utilize alternative land provided by the government and consider relocating to urban areas. "Our proactive measures, including desilting old drainage systems, have minimized the flood's impact in other areas, but non-compliance by some residents led to significant property damage," he stated.

Highlighting the broader safety concerns, Dr. Hayatu-Mazadu added, "Flood safety isn't solely the responsibility of the governor or state officials; it requires the collective action of all residents to protect lives and properties. We must prioritize safety over perceived rights to farm or reside in hazardous areas."

The state government, under the leadership of Mallam Uba Sani, has established relief camps for affected individuals, offering food, non-food items, and security measures. Dr. Hayatu-Mazadu warned that the rainy season is expected to extend longer than usual, increasing the risk of further flooding across the state.

Cristiano Ronaldo Hints at Retirement in the Next Few Years; Eyes New Ventures Beyond Football

Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed his intention to retire from football within the next “two or three years,” although he has yet to finalize the exact timing of his exit from the sport. The 39-year-old football icon, who will turn 40 on February 5, 2025, continues to impress with his performances at Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia and remains a key figure on the international stage.

Despite recent speculation surrounding his future following a goalless UEFA Euros campaign, Ronaldo remains committed to representing Portugal under the guidance of coach Roberto Martinez. Addressing his post-retirement plans, the Portuguese star dismissed the idea of pursuing a coaching career, hinting instead at exploring ventures outside of football as he continues to expand his personal brand.

“When I leave the national team, I will not tell anyone; it will be a very spontaneous decision on my part,” Ronaldo stated in an interview with Portuguese channel NOW, emphasizing that his departure from international football will be a personal choice made on his own terms.

“What I want now is to be able to help the national team,” he added, expressing his dedication to contributing to Portugal’s efforts as they prepare for upcoming Nations League matches.

Ronaldo, who has won the Ballon d'Or five times, was clear about his disinterest in a managerial role, stating, “At the moment, I’m not thinking about being a coach of the first team or any team. It doesn’t even cross my mind; I’ve never thought about it. I don’t see my future going through that.”

He has already made significant strides in building his brand and exploring new business opportunities, including the recent launch of a YouTube channel that attracted over 16 million followers within 24 hours.
