This month is , so we’ll be sharing our tips & support throughout the month to raise awareness and provide a little insight into what fibroids are, how they can affect fertility and who they may affect.

Fibroids are common non-cancerous growths found in or around the womb, that can sometimes impact fertility and overall health.

Most women will develop at least 1 fibroid at some point during their life however, many are unaware of this due to the fact they do not show any symptoms.
At The IVF Network, we understand the challenges fibroids can present. Treatments range from medication to manage symptoms, minimally invasive procedures to shrink fibroids, and surgery for more severe cases.

If you need any information or support, head over to our community page to speak with other members going through their own fertility journeys. 🔗

Did you know that 11-12% of adoptive parents experience post-adoption depression (PAD)? It's not uncommon for adoptive parents to feel depression and other negative emotions even after they finally have a child.

So, aside from counselling and a great support network, how can your workplace help?

Employees on their fertility or IVF journey, including those adopting, may need:
• Time Off or Flexible Hours: To manage appointments and personal needs.
• Access to Wellness and Mental Health Support: To help cope with these emotional challenges.

Having supportive policies and systems in place shows that your organisation values and cares for its employees. This is especially crucial for adoptive parents who may struggle in the initial weeks and months after a child's placement.

For more information on incorporating fertility policies into your workplace, get in touch today and follow us for more fertility advice.

Studies suggest that incorporating certain foods into your diet can positively affect fertility. Consider adopting a Mediterranean diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, seafood, nuts, legumes, and olive oil.

We are suckers for a nice whole wheat cracker with avo and smoked salmon (featuring a little drizzle of olive oil) 🥑 Avocado and olive oil are great sources of vitamin E which is great for both male and female fertility, while smoked salmon is packed full of omega-3, great for foetal development and improving egg quality. 🥗

Surrogacy is an agreement where a woman will carry a baby for a couple or individual who cannot conceive. It can be a great option for those who cannot conceive themselves, and can provide a journey filled with hope and possibility, offering a path to parenthood for many.

There are two types of surrogacy:
• Traditional Surrogacy: The surrogate is inseminated with s***m.
• Host Surrogacy: An embryo is implanted into the surrogate. This method has become more common.

We know how many hours of research can go into a decision like surrogacy, so if you’re not sure what route is best for you, we’ve provided our “Top 5 Things to Know About Surrogacy”. From choosing to have a surrogate to becoming one yourself and the potential legal implications to look out for.

Last month, we were joined by Obstetrician & Gynaecologist, Dr Karen Joash, and Registered Nutritionist & Research Assistant, Anna Firth, to discuss all things Black Maternal Health.

Supplements during and prior to pregnancy are incredibly important and can have a direct impact on your chances of conception. For black women, vitamin D synthesis from the sun can be more challenging, therefore, it is integral to give your body the extra supplementation.

If you and your partner are looking to improve your chances of conception your diet might seem like an easy place to start 🍲

A diet refers to the food you eat and the vitamins, minerals and other nutrients you get from it. When you are trying to get pregnant, you might need to be more aware of the food you are eating and the supplements you may need to take.

On top of your balanced fertility diet, many doctors recommend that females take prenatal vitamins daily. This vitamin is packed with minerals and other dietary supplements but what are they, how can they impact your fertility and pregnancy, and what are the foodie alternatives?

Earlier this month, IVFN Founder, Charlotte Gentry, joined Bupa UK Health Horizons is a live, virtual event created to guide the future of workplace health and wellbeing, one horizon at a time. Charlotte and her husband, Adam, attended the event to discuss their fertility journeys from both male and female perspectives and how the experience impacted their mental health.

Deciding it’s time to start a family is a major life moment. But sometimes, feelings of elation and excitement can be interwoven with negative emotions. For example, anxiety, depression, and self-doubts.

As many as one in five women, and one in ten males, experience mental health problems either during their pregnancy or following the birth.

An article from Charlotte's Q&A session is now live and highlights some of the key figures surrounding mental health during your fertility journey and ways to manage and minimise any negative impacts.

Facing fertility challenges can be daunting, and male infertility is often kept behind closed doors. We've partnered with the team behind Test Him, along with leading nutritionist Sarah Nash Fertility Nutrition to discuss what testing is available, and what an initial diagnosis might look like. We also discuss the impact on mental well-being, and the vital role that nutrition and exercise can play.

This session is part of our premium membership, upgrade to watch for just £9.99 a month, or, if you're already a premium member watch now! https://www.theivfnetwork.com/broadcasts/removing-the-taboo-male-fertility-journeys/

To highlight , this month our Safe Space will be all about exploring the importance of men getting the support they need during their fertility journey.

We are delighted to be joined by Ian Stones who is the Founder and Co-Director of Test Him.

As many as one in seven couples have difficulty conceiving. In around 30% of cases women have fertility problems. In 30%, the men have fertility problems also. And, in 30 to 40% of cases, it’s a combination of the two, or the cause is unknown.

With the split being 50/50 between male & females, it’s more important than ever to highlight and support males going through fertility challenges and ensure they don’t feel like a “passenger” throughout their journeys.

Find out more about our Safe Space event, and be sure to set a reminder in your dairies to join our live session! 🗓️ https://www.theivfnetwork.com/events/safe-space/

Why are fertility policies so important to integrate into your workplace?

Communication can be challenging, especially when it comes to potentially sensitive topics such as fertility. Introducing a fertility policy allows your employees to feel supported and gain accessibility to topics they may not wish to openly discuss.

Four in five women undergoing treatment believe it’s important to facilitate open and safe conversations around fertility at work, however, 59% keep it a secret from their managers.

Occasionally, fertility challenges can affect mental and physical health and may impact your employees work. It is important to be patient, and understanding and offer the right support.

For more information on fertility policies and the benefits of having one in place, visit our website: https://www.theivfnetwork.com/corporate/

It’s so important for couples to discuss their feelings. Poor communication can increase stress levels, which in turn, can have a negative impact on s*xual function. Both partners need emotional support when going through infertility problems, tests and treatment.

Natalie Silverman, Founder of The Fertility Podcast, sat down with ex-IVF patient and director of “The Easy Bit”, Tom Webb and Consultant Urologist and Lead Andrologist, Professor Suks Minhas, to talk about the stigma surrounding male infertility.

Struggling with infertility and not feeling able to talk about it, can lead to men feeling isolated, depressed and having low self-esteem.

We want to open the doors to these conversations and, through our growing community, offer you all the support and expert insights you might need.

Sometimes, there’s nothing better than getting cosy in a coffee shop, sipping on a latte and watching the world go by. So, this probably isn’t going to be the easiest post to read through…but hear us out, it could be affecting your conception journey ☕️

Given it’s a stimulant, caffeine can be a hard habit to quit. Whatever your taste in coffee, healthcare professionals advise you to reduce your coffee intake before, during and after pregnancy because high levels of caffeine can cause an increased risk of infertility and pregnancy complications.

Knowing how much caffeine is in the products you buy can be a challenge so here’s a helpful caffeine calculator used by the NHS to help you out!

There are approximately:
100 mg of caffeine in a mug of instant coffee
140 mg of caffeine in a mug of filter coffee
75 mg of caffeine in a mug of tea (regular or green tea)
34 mg of caffeine in a 12oz can of regular or diet cola
80 mg of caffeine in 250 ml cans of energy drinks
less than 25 mg of caffeine in 50 g of a plain dark chocolate bar
less than 10 mg of caffeine in 50 g of a plain milk chocolate bar.

If you want to find out more about how caffeine affects your fertility, check out our blog 🔗

The Fawcett Society - Official, a women’s rights charity, found that “1 in 10 women who worked during the menopause has left a job due to their symptoms.”.

When employees are experiencing the symptoms listed in this post, their work quality and attendance are likely to be affected. This may lead to issues around capability or disciplinary action due to increased sick leave and in turn, this creates a risk of employers being accused of discrimination.

Ensuring that your workspace is supportive, positive and educated is paramount to fostering great relationships for the long term. When employers are supportive, it has a positive impact on staff retention and recruitment too.
