There is disagreement over the origin of November's beaver moon name. Some say it comes from Native Americans setting beaver traps during this month, while others say the name comes from the heavy activity of beavers building their winter dams.
Another name is the frost moon.

Isn’t tonight’s full moon beautiful?! It is called the “Seed Fall Moon” by the Celts to represent the fact that many plants have gone to seed. It is most commonly known as the “Hunter’s Moon” - Hunter’s Moon is the first full Moon to follow the Harvest Moon, which can occur in either October or November. There is also a partial Lunar Eclipse tonight as well.

Finally got to stop by .cafe.pantry in Esparto today!! Love the vibe!! And the food is absolutely incredible. The figs from were to die for. Maple Cappuccino, hand lotion & an October issue of the magazine… perfection. The drive there in the rain was beautiful. Why don’t I live next door to this place so I can visit/eat here 5x a week?! 😩😩😩

Meet alpacas at Menagerie Hill Ranch today & tomorrow! National Alpaca Farm Days!!!

September 23&24 Menagerie Hill Ranch Celebrates National Alpaca Farm Days from 10am-3pm!

Guests are invited to spend some time relaxing and visiting with the alpacas. Watch the cria (baby Alpacas) pronk (run/jump). Bring your lawn chair or blanket, picnic basket & camera. Enjoy watching spinning and other demonstrations.

The ranch store will be open with a variety of alpaca products for sale including alpaca fiber, yarn, hand knitted items, socks, gloves, scarves, throw blankets, alpaca ornaments, fiber/twig balls, dryer balls; and alpaca themed novelties such as tote bags, ranch t-shirts, soaps and other items.

Cold beverages will also be available for sale.

All activities and parking are FREE.

Please no pets or strollers. Sorry no restrooms available.

Great article. I’m sharing this everywhere so don’t mind me but saving agriculture land is key to why the Ag and Art Film Festival and the Ag & Art Magazine came into existence. The arrogance of the investors and the disregard for what is already there is what has bothered me from Day 1. That happens a lot in the desert too where I grew up. People come to Arizona and they think if the land isn’t build upon then it’s empty. I grew up in the dessert. The desert is teaming with life. This Flannery Group plan is bringing an important issue to the forefront. This is why I screen films about farming!! We need to think about land use. Is EVERYTHING for sale? Kudos to the McCormick family for getting a conservation easement. We have a film about conserving California ranch land, “You Just Can’t See Them From the Road” on Sunday, 9/17 at 1pm.

Invest in a day of art from around the world via cinema! In our 10am block we are showing “Standing Strong: Elizabeth Catlett” along with international shorts. We have several filmmakers attending this movie block so you get to meet them and ask questions! Then at 2pm, we are screening “Darwin Nix” about an artist from the South who achieves success up North but has now returned to the South and faces what he despises about it and his upbringing. The filmmaker, Brice, is coming into Vacaville to introduce his film from Philadelphia. Don’t forget to also purchase an individual ticket ($18) to our 2023 Jury Award Winning film : “Into the Spotlight” screening on Saturday, 9/16 at 2pm!! The film’s producer and one of the cast members is coming to Vacaville for this special screening. You will LOVE this film!!!!

We have three wonderful local farmers who have agreed to stop harvesting for the morning and to come speak to our audience!! (This is a busy time for farmers!) Meet Justina from Araceli Farms (Dixon), Rafael from Park Winters Flower Farm (Winters), and Ben from Lockewood Acres (Vacaville). Our Special Guest includes Indy, host of National Geographic’s “Farm Dreams” show! Definitely buy a ticket to our 2023 Jury Winning “Best Ag Feature” film, “The Last Seed” screening Friday at 2pm. 🌟Every human on the planet should watch this film.🌟 And finally - buy a ticket to Sunday’s 1pm movie block which includes “You Just Can’t See Them From the Road” - CA rangeland is going away and learn about who is affected, and “Destination Regeneration” - regenerative farming and how it’s not just good for the soil, the environment and the planet but how it’s also good for US - our health.

🍷 WINE LOVERS: Saturday morning is all about wine!! You don’t want to miss this exciting film & panel starting at 10am. First we screen “The Amphora Project” then the Solano Winemaker Panel with Lisa of Tolenas Winery (Suisun Valley), Ron from Wooden Valley Winery (Suisun Valley) and Candace & Bob from (Green Valley). The panel is moderated by Sarah Olsen. Director of The Vacaville Museum. We will also be joined by the filmmakers of “The Amphora Project” who are traveling into town from San Luis Obispo. If you are a VIP Passholder, or you can buy a ticket - after the screening & panel we have a special Winemakers Reception happening at the Vacaville Museum at 12:30. Expect to meet the winemakers & filmmakers and we will have light lunch items: meatballs, a charcutrie board, and cannolis from La Borgata Italian Deli.

We have many filmmakers traveling to Vacaville to support the festival and for post-screening Q&As!! Please come and help make this year’s film festival a huge success. Every year people tell me our theater should be packed with the quality of programming we deliver and I agree!! Come celebrate storytelling & cinema in the heart of Downtown Vacaville!
