Today is International Peace Day


This day is committed to fortifying the principles of peace. South Africans know from their lived experience that peace goes beyond ceasefires. It necessitates a unified approach to eradicating poverty, inequality, and oppression.

The 2022 Kwa Zulu Natal unrest that spread to pockets of the Gauteng and Mpumalanga provinces were quiet a pertinent reminder that peace without a national prosperity experienced at an individual level is pseudo peace.

Today as we participate in the UNGA 77 Youth in Peace and Security RoundTable we are reminded that as we strive for peace, a key focus area is ending racism.

A world free of racism and racial discrimination. A world that removes all legacy of the historic racial segregation and oppression.

As a member of the National Steercom of Women Peace and Security and the South African Youth Peacebuilders and GETRUDE Shoppe Women Mediators Network. I encourage all of us to strive for peace.

These awards aim to inspire young women and gender non-conforming persons who are building a better tomorrow for their communities in South Africa.

Engagements include combatting gangsterism, xenophobia, gender-based violence, peace work during the July unrest, First responders to violence and conflict, Mediators or facilitators of conflict, Setting up of organisations or clubs that facilitate peace, Running advocacy campaigns for peace, Promotion of peace through art and culture

​Apply or nominate Young Peacebuilders are those aged between 18 – 35 recognized by their peers or communities or nationally as having contributed significantly to sustaining peace.

​The winners receive national publicity and prize money. They are chosen by a panel of experts including distinguished practitioners, political figures, and the media.

​Entries are open from 10 August 2022 – 15 September 2022

This is a clarion call to all of society, government, and partners to take tangible steps forward in responding to the most persistent challenges affecting the lives of women and girls.

The role of the High Commission is to ensure that foreign policy is given practical expression in everyday work through:

This evening we had a send off dinner for the South African delegation to University Sao Paolo summer school program.

We also launched our global scholarships programs with a multitude of stakeholders.

The Gauteng MEC of Finance and E-Government rendered a key note address.

The National Department of Agriculture and Rural and Land Development as well as well as the Department of International Relations and Cooperation and Department of Higher Education and Training alongside the capacity and education ecosystem role players were in attendance.

We look forward to making youth economic empowerment a reality in a every way possible.

Our stakeholders are critical to our success. Thank you for everything you do to make young people relevant to the economic recovery and national development of our country.

Last night I had the pleasure of joining a group of stakeholders who where reflecting on the various pathways of developing young people particularly as they create high impact solutions. The challenges of securing finance for long term development initiatives and the opportunities that are presented within the ecosystem.

It's an exciting time to create solutions and the truth is we need to see more investment driven to youth level interventions beyond the status quo.

Part of our youth development investment strategy involves leveraging international economic trade relations to harness domestic investment.

This broadens the horizon our social capital as a catalyst for youth development.

As a youthful country and continent it is quite important to secure various arteries of investment for young people who are both the present and the future of our country and the world.
