One dead after shooting in Martin bar

MARTIN, TENN– Authorities are investigating a shooting in Martin bar on Saturday night, December 30th, that left one dead.

Martin police department responded to a shooting at the Cadillac’s bar, in Martin, Saturday night around 1 in the morning that left one dead.

“I was standing there by the pool tables and we were about to go check out the dance floor area and as we started walking to the double doors to get in all you hear is five or so gunshots pop off,” Angel Navarrete, witness of the incident, says.

Navarrete said he believes the shooting happened near the dance floor area of the bar.

After the gunshots, he says the bar went into a panic.

“Next thing you see is the whole bar freaking out, yelling, running out of every door. Really didn’t know what to do most of the people just laid down, hid behind some pool tables,” Navarrete stated.

As people attempted to escape the bar, Navarrete said the exits became chaotic. “People that were just hiding got trampled on. It was a good pileup of at least fifty people I’d say that were just getting stampeded on, crying. Everyone was freaking out,” Navarrete says.

Navarrete said his initial reaction to the gunshots inside the bar was the thought of a mass shooting.

“At first I thought it was kind of a mass shooting area with all the crazy things you see nowadays. I didn’t think it was just a one on one thing,” he says.

After people ran out of the bar, they met with police outside and informed them someone had been shot.

“Next thing you know there’s about 10 or 12 cops running out with all their pistols out surrounding the bar area,” he adds.

According to a news release from the Martin Police Department, 19-year-old Cameron Houston from Union City was found suffering multiple gunshot wounds and was transferred to the Volunteer Community Hospital.

Later, he died of his injuries, at this time the Martin Police Department have made no arrests and are still looking for a suspect.

Lady Cats Run Win Streak to Ten in a Row with Victory over Bearcats
MCKENZIE, Tenn. – The (RV) Bethel Lady Wildcats ran their win streak to ten in a row with a 71-45 victory over the visiting Brescia Bearcats Tuesday night in Crisp Arena. The Cats are 160-32 all-time in the arena which opened in 2012.
Bethel improved to 10-2 while Brescia dropped to 4-6 after losing their fourth straight.
After a somewhat sluggish start that saw Bethel trail 18-15 at the end of the first quarter, the Lady Wildcats found themselves and outscored the Bearcats 24-7 in the second stanza. Alyia Lee came off the Bethel bench and sparked the Cats with 11 of her 13 points. Kalynn Howard was big in the quarter with seven of her 13 points in the quarter as well.
The Cats extended their lead to as many as 26 at one time in the second half and cruised to the win. The Lady Cats knocked down 12 three-pointers in the game. Brescia was just 3-of-21 from outside. The Cats had a commanding advantage in points off the bench at 38-8. The Wildcats had a 39-26 margin in rebounds.
Aniya Patterson joined Howard and Lee in double figures with 11 points. Lindsey Peyton led Brescia with a game high of 15 points.
Coach Chris Nelson shared his thoughts after the game. “I thought we played well at times. The second quarter was a good ten minutes for us. We fell off with our consistency at times in the second half, but we were trying to play some different combinations. Give Brescia credit as well, they played hard and made us work. We will enjoy this for few minutes and get ready for an outstanding Brewton-Parker team that is playing great right now.”
Bethel has a quick turnaround with a Wednesday night affair with (RV) Brewton-Parker. Bethel beat the Barons 57-47 earlier this season in the Faulkner Classic in Montgomery. BPU is coming off an impressive road win at # 24 Freed-Hardeman on Monday.
The Lady Cats are 10-0 all-time versus BPU. Tip-off is slated for 6 p.m.
