South Korea's Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., Ltd (HHI) signed a contract with the Philippine Department of National Defense on June 27th to construct six units of new build 2,400 ton Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPV) worth USD 573 million.

Makakaasa po ang sambayanang Pilipino na gagamitin ang mga barkong ito para maitaguyod ang maritime security sa ating exclusive economic zone.

Makikita rin po ito ng mga Pilipinong mangingisda na nag-iingat sa kanilang kapakanan habang nasa laot.

Higit sa lahat, handa rin pong gamitin ng PCG ang mga barkong ito sa pagsasagawa ng humanitarian at disaster response operations tuwing may kalamidad o sakuna.

Philippines orders 2 new guided missile corvettes from South Korea's Hyundai Heavy Industries 🇵🇭🇰🇷

The Philippines' acquisition of two corvettes will probably be the last big-ticket military procurement for Duterte's administration.

The Philippine Navy (PN) will receive two 3,100t corvettes from Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) under a PHP25 billion ($490 million) contract signed in an online ceremony on 28 December 2021.

HHI would start building the ships by 3rd quarter of 2022, and complete the first ship of the class by 2nd quarter of 2024.

The Department of National Defense signed the contract for the purchase of 32 additional S70i Black Hawk helicopters from PZL Mielic of Poland in a ceremony held today, 22 February.

The acquisition of the additional 32 units worth USD 624 million also comes with an integrated logistics support and training package for pilots and maintenance crew.

“Hopefully, the delivery of these new utility helicopters will start soon. I think we will not be here anymore to receive these helicopters, but nonetheless, we will be happy to see the improvement of the capability of the Philippine Air Force.” – Secretary Delfin N Lorenzana
