Goodnight, Innocence: Why Our Children Deserve Better
Childhood innocence is a beautiful thing. It's one of the few parts of life that occurs naturally that is worth preserving for as long as possible.
Big box retailer, Target, has been in the news this month for their blatant advertising of Pride Month merchandise towards minors and has received backlash resulting in stock price devaluation and boycotts.
This, however, has gone largely unnoticed and unremarked upon. Goodnight Racism by Ibram X. Kendi is a racially divisive book geared towards children in order to stoke racial feelings of animosity and victimhood from a young age. It is available for purchase, front and center in the children's book department in Target, right next to all of the classic bedtime stories for toddlers, board books of their favorite cartoon characters, and books teaching them their ABCs.
Creating a divide between our youth a the young ages before they are even in Pre-K is something that should be rejected by both sides of the political spectrum. Yes, there is a history of racism in the United States and worldwide. Yes, there are difficult conversations that I, myself, and everyone else should be willing to have as an adult. But therein lies the key point, "as an adult."
Racism is something that is learned. It is not natural. Children are pure and innocent, largely worried about the next snack they are wanting or the next toy that they see on the aisles of Target. This is something beautiful and worth preserving. The innocent, sweet smile of a toddler when reading a bedtime story with their mother or father is something close to divine. These precious memories should be cherished and these opportunities should be taken to build our children up, allow them to enjoy the innocence of childhood, and feel the love pouring out to them from everyone in their life. The radical race baiting agenda of some of those in our political climate believe differently. Indoctrinating our children from the time they are old enough to comprehend even the most basic of concepts is a key part of their agenda. Equality has quickly shifted to a concept of equity over merit. It is permeating all aspects of our lives, all the way down to the bedtime story section geared towards toddler at your local Target. Be vigilant, take care of your family and monitor what your children pick up, engage with, and what content they consume. This will only get worse unless the largely silent majority begins to push back on this agenda that is influencing all aspects of our life.
