This is what we are up against. This person was in the military and took an oath to defend the Constitution but thinks it is "a joke."

This is due to a failure to distinguish between objective fundamental principle and the shortcomings of practical application in reality.

The simple presence of injustice in the world does not make obtaining justice impossible or necessarily negate the validity of the structures we create to fight for and secure justice. Even the historical injustice this person referenced was eventually remedied structurally within the Constitutional system. Constitutional protection was expanded to secure fundamental rights for a larger group of people; any lingering injustice can surely be combated under the same moral imperatives and the same political order. But it has become politicized and divisive.

When the Constitutional order is disrupted in favor of mob rule seeking short-term gains and Constitutional principles are misunderstood as a morally corrupt form of oppression in themselves, we have a problem. We must be unified at a fundamental level. If the people joining the military to defend the Constitution do not understand and respect it, how long can it survive?
