Tawang Monastery 🕉️🪷🙏😍

The largest Buddhist monastery in India, situated in the beautiful State of Arunachal Pradesh.

Try locating Tawang on a map, and you'll see how close it is to India's international borders with China/Tibet and Bhutan.

In fact, till about 1914, Tawang was part of Tibet, after which it became part of British India once the McMohan line was drawn. Thereafter it has remained an integral part of India, and a highly revered destination for all.

Not the moon... This one is VENUS, in its crescent phase🌙

The "evening star" Venus is about to leave the western night sky, for a few weeks, before becoming the "morning star". It'll then start appearing in the east before sunrise. 🌞

The phases of our friendly neighborhood twin planet are fascinating to watch through a telescope or binoculars 🔭

That's Venus!

The hottest planet of our solar system... The phases of Venus are similar to the phases of the moon.

Currently we can see a "half Venus", because of the positioning of the Earth and Venus.

Swipe right to see how the two "twin" planets are placed right now. Since we are at a 90° angle, we see half of the lit up Venus, and half of the dark side.

Buddha Park, Tawang 🙏😊

A pretty little area, with the Giant Buddha Statue. Situated in Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh, it gives a great view of the Tawang Monastery.

The park, and also the temple situated under the Statue, have pictures showcasing various stages of Lord Buddha's life.

Piggy Piggy what colours do you see?? 😂🤩😍

I was under the wrong impression that the hills in North East India are lower than those in Uttarakhand and other north Indian states. Here in Bomdila (Arunachal Pradesh), we are at about 8,000 feet, which is higher than Mussorie, Nainital and Shimla!

Sunset on the Brahmaputra 😍😃

It is just fascinating to watch the Sun rise or set over water. The colours change every minute, and I can never get enough of the view ❤️🤩

Got a chance to watch the Sun set over the mighty Brahmaputra river in

The second and third photos show the "PEACOCK ISLAND" or Umananda island, which is the *smallest inhabited river island*. Placed in the middle of the Brahmaputra, it houses a temple.

Allahabad High Court

It's the largest High Court of the country, with a sanctioned strength of 160 judges (including its Bench at Lucknow).

While the High Court of Judicature for the North-Western Provinces (as it was then called) was established in 1866, it moved to the current building fifty years later, in 1916.

In the same year, 1916, the Patna High Court was established, in a building which is an identical twin of the one at Allahabad.

JEWEL OF THE NIGHT SKY!! 🪐

Saturn, the second largest planet of our solar system, is about 1.4 billion km away from Earth. 🔥😃

It's rings make it quite a sight in the night sky. Both Jupiter and Saturn are clearly visible after sunset for the next few months. Have you checked them out yet??? 😎😀

Part V - The controversy

New laws introduced in Lakshadweep have raised quite a storm.

What do you think about them??

Part IV - Lakshadweep and Overtourism

Lakshadweep is not as easily accessible as some of the other places in India. Do you agree with this conservatism??

26/06/2021

Part III - The Nine Degree channel

One of the busiest and most important waterways in the world, falls in Lakshadweep

Part II - Lakshadweep and it's connect with the Maldives

Have you been to any of these islands? They're actually peaks of a long underwater mountain range, located in the Indian Ocean

20/06/2021

What's the answer??
Part I - Lakshadweep : India's only coral atoll.

Did you get the answer to the question right??

Part IV - The Question...

Do Union Territories become States? What about the other way around? Then there are some which have features of both!

Finally, any idea which was the first State to be converted into a Union Territory?

01/06/2021

Part III - The cultural reasons for formation of Union Territories.

These towns have not been merged with their neighbouring States to preserve their distinct culture and heritage. Like in the cases of Puducherry.

Speaking of which... Do you know where all the Puducherry districts are located??

31/05/2021

Part II - why are Union Territories formed?
The first two reasons are
STRATEGIC - Lakshadweep, Andaman & Nicobar islands, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh
ADMINISTRATIVE - Delhi, Chandigarh

Any other reasons you can think of?

Part I - Union Territories and States in India. How many do we have? And what is the difference?

Part I gives a brief background. Keep watching for more...

The white desert!

One of the most magnificent sights is our Sun touching the horizon over the white desert at the RANN OF KUTCH in Gujarat.

Being in west India, sunset was quite late, around 6.30pm. We walked a few hundred metres on the SALTY desert to reach a nice view point.

This entire white desert is under water for a few months every year. Last monsoon the area received more than double the usual rainfall, so some slush was still there. The challenge was to avoid stepping into it and LOSING A SHOE!!

Minutes before sunrise...

Photos taken on 13th December 2020, a day before the new moon (amavasya). This slim moon rose from the east at 5am, and was visible till the break of dawn (around 6am), giving a small window of opportunity.

Just above the moon was *Venus* (photo 2), shining brightly. Currently Venus is a"morning Star" rising before the Sun, and setting before sunset.

Wait for it... Amid all the shaking, you can watch Jupiter and Saturn move across the screen.

Just to bust some myths/answer some questions I've been asked so far about the conjunction...

Yes, it is visible with the naked eye. Ofcourse, to watch Saturn's rings or Jupiter's moons, you'll need a telescope or binoculars.

No, it's not harmful to the eyes if you watch it directly.

No, the planets are not changing their positions. Jupiter remains the 5th and Saturn the 6th from the Sun. It's just from the Earth that we feel as if they've come very close. The distance between Jupiter and Saturn is still fairly large, close to 700 million kms.

Sorry, but I'm not sure what effect this conjunction is going to have on your future. Pls contact your family astrologer for more on that! 😃

A closer look at Jupiter... And its moons.

This photo was taken a couple of days back, from my backyard, using the telescope.

The four largest moons are clearly visible. Three on one side of the planet (Lo, Europa and Ganymede), and one on the other side (Callisto).

Though not visible in this photo, when viewed through the telescope, two parallel red belts on Jupiter can be made out.

Ganymede is the largest moon of Jupiter, and also the largest satellite of our solar system, larger in size than the planet Mercury!

The Keoti falls, in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh.

The central India state is dotted with various beautiful waterfalls, thanks to its hilly terrain.

We planned a half-day trip to these falls, and found it to be a great picnic spot.

To my surprise, the locals informed that the force of the falls is such that even while standing on the edge if one throws a stone it won't reach the water! I took up the challenge, and despite using all the physics I know and the force I could conjure, the stone kept diverting away from the falling water. So frustrating 😂🙈

Jupiter and its many moons!!

The largest planet of our solar system, Jupiter, also has the maximum number of moons.

The four largest moons of the planet can be seen in this photo taken through the

They are Lo, Europa, Ganymede and Callisto. These four are also called the Galilean moons of Jupiter.

Look what's floating across the sky!

SATURN, the second biggest planet of our solar system, can be seen in the night sky for another few days.
This is the first video I could take of the planet which is more than a billion kilometres away from us.
Though the video is shaky, the planet itself and its rings can be seen. It's a delight to watch indeed!!
