Before the launch of Banaskantha Update, a page was started in the name of Banaskantha News on date: 29/04/2015. What was the main purpose of starting Banaskantha update? Banaskantha district got flooded and people were out of reach to TV channels and print newspaper so there was not a single medium of news for people in banaskantha at that time so that’s how ‘Banaskantha update’ rose with purpose to help people in that situation. The main purpose of starting ‘Banaskantha update’ was to inform and help people who were affected by the flood in banaskantha district of Gujarat in the year 2015 and 2017. We stared ‘Banaskantha update’ news publication with the name as “બનાસકાંઠાના સમાચાર” on facebook. TV channels, print media in Banaskantha areas were out of reach when flood happened in 2015 and 2017. What will be the situation of the people in such a time, what incidents were happening to people in such a time, how much water in which area, what problem in which area, such information was not reaching the people. Among the many questions like where to get accurate information was difficult for people. That things sparked as the idea to create this news publication so that the people of Banaskantha and the area around Banaskantha could get accurate information and news through our social media page. This was the true test of this page during the catastrophic flood happened in Banaskantha and was able to pass this test. During this catastrophic flood, the information of the moment was conveyed to the people through our Banaskantha update. We provided information to people such as how much surface of Dantiwada dam is, how much increase in water, How much water in which area, what question of people in which area, what problem, what happened? During that time a helpline number was also started by us so people who were out of reach from internet could also get every bit of information and news about the situation. During this time people continued to receive information on with this helpline number. The problems they had were told through this number and care was taken to help them by listening to those problems and their questions i.e. their confusions, problems, and conveying that information to the system. The system also played a key role in helping during that time. Thus the ‘Banaskantha update’ page and portal were started with the aim of helping the people and conveying information to them.
