Most people with type 1 diabetes do not love the condition. A lot of the time, it's a relationship filled with resentment, anger, frustration, confusion, and over time it feels exhausting. One of the most difficult questions we ask guests is "what's your favorite thing about T1D?". Most of us don't love it, and in this episode I'm challenging the status quo of hating on the 'betes.
I believe we can learn to love the diabetes, to release the blame, and think about it the same way we think about all the other significant things in our lives.
Do you love your type 1 diabetes? It's a jarring question. We talk about ways to actually love your T1D without blame or resentment.

This is Type 1: Real-Life Diabetes
I came up with this idea shortly before Panther Camp 2019, the week-long day camp for type 1 diabetic children that I’ve been attending for 20 years -- this year was my 12th as a volunteer counselor.
Every year I learn something new, and this year I realized that all the things I’ve picked up over my 23 (almost 24) years with diabetes isn’t common knowledge. Shortly before camp, I was over at Jessie’s house and mentioned something about diabetes that blew her mind. She almost couldn’t believe what I told her.
When the idea for this podcast bubbled up, Jessie was the obvious choice for co-host. We can learn from each other and educate the world at the same time!
This is Type 1 is for the type 1 diabetics who know there’s more to it than what the doctors told them in the hospital. It’s for the parents who want to learn more about this disease to better care for their newly diagnosed children. It’s for people who have heard about diabetes but don’t really know what it is, what we deal with, or how it’s different from type 2.
It’s our mission to educate about real-life with type 1 diabetes, to make the lives of our fellow diabetics easier to manage, simpler to lead, and filled with the understanding that having diabetes doesn’t define us.
