A Flood Watch is now in effect for much of North and Central Texas for late this morning through Thursday evening. Widespread rainfall totals of 1 to 3 inches are expected within the watch area with localized 4 to 5 inch amounts possible. If you encounter flooded roadways, TURN AROUND, DON'T DROWN!

A Flood Watch is in effect for the highlighted areas from this morning until 7 am Friday. Rainfall totals between 1.5 to 3 inches are possible with isolated amounts of 5 inches in Central Texas. In addition to rapid rises on creeks, streams, and rivers, flooding may occur in low-lying, urban, and poor drainage areas. * Until 300 PM CDT.

* At 1156 AM CDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated
thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between
0.5 and 1 inch of rain has fallen over a short period of time.
Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.

HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

IMPACT...Flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas,
highways, streets, and underpasses as well as other
poor drainage and low lying areas.

Severe thunderstorm chances return this afternoon, AFTER the eclipse. There may only be a short window (2-3 hours) between the eclipse and strong to severe storms for some areas. Make your safety plan NOW and have multiple ways to receive warnings! The primary threat is large hail, but tornadoes, damaging winds, and flooding are all possible. The severe weather threat will continue into the overnight hours for much of the area.
