The Institute of Business Management Karachi in cooperation with the Consulate of the People Republic of China in Karachi, organized a Book Launching ceremony of 'China As Number One', written by Former Ambassador Syed Hasan Javed.
2. The Event was attended by a select group of participants and presided by Consul General H.E.Mr.Li Bijian. Ms.Shahida Wizarat, Dean Economics Department who represented the IOBM, termed the Book 'a must read' for the scholars and students of International Relations as well as Development Economics.She termed the Book well written, informative, and interesting. Asst.Professor Dr. Asad Shahzad presented a review of the Book. He mentioned the importance and role of 'Soft Power' in China's rise with an account of its centuries old soft power values. The Author in his remarks, mentioned the major trends, patterns, challenges and opportunities in China's rise. He said history is becoming compressed.Mr.Javed said the rising 8 Muslim Middle Powers are a new reality. Mr. Li Bijian paid compliments to the Author, for writing several Books on China and also comprehensively learning Chinese language.He reiterated China's steadfast support to Pakistan's economic development, territorial integrity and national sovereignty.

Leftist parties form Progressive Alliance to offer political alternate

A new leftist alliance aimed at liberating people from the shackles of IMF and the World Bank and their uniformed and uninformed collaborators has been formed.

Named as the Progressive Alliance, the conglomerate of left wing parties comprises the Communist Party of Pakistan, Pakistan Inqilabi Party, National Party, Pakistan Mazdoor Mahaz, Pakistan Saraiki Party, Awami Tehreek, Jeay Sindh Mahaaz, Pakistan Mazdoor Kissan Party, Awami Jamhoori Party, Jammu Kashmir People's National Party, Jammu Kashmir National Awami Party and Gilgit Baltistan Bacho Tehreek.

The parties of the alliance have said in a joint statement that all previous governments have adopted the economic and financial policies at the behest of imperialistic institutions like the IMF, WB, ADB and others turning masses into the slaves of these monetary institutions.

"They took loans which were used on the luxuries judges, generals, civil and military bureaucracy and the politicians who used this money to create assets inside and outside the country instead of spending these loans on masses and their welfare."

The alliance components noted that now the government is slapping people with unbearable taxes to pay off these loans, resorting to imposition of various taxes frequently on one and another pretext.

It has been decided that keeping in view the hardships that masses are facing the alliance would go to masses offering them a pro- working people and common people programme which is aimed at liberating masses from the clutches of imperialistic institutions and powers.

The alliance will launch a series of protests, rallies and seminars in this regard. The first of this series would be an anti inflation and privatisation rally and a public gathering to be held on Aug 28 in Karachi.

The alliance elected Imdad Qazi of CPP and Sabir Ali Haider of PIP as convener and deputy convener of the alliance respectively for a period of six month.

International Conference and Art Festival for Promoting Social Cohesion and Interfaith Harmony - Buddhism in Pakistan: History, Archaeology, Art and Architecture.

The Quaid-i-Azam University in collaboration with Silk Road Centre and International Institute for Central Asian Studies (Uzbekistan) is organizing an international conference and art festival on the Buddhist heritage of Pakistan. The conference and art festival are being held at the Pakistan National Council of the Arts from March 14-15, 2022. Conference activities include research sessions, exhibition of artworks and trips to key Buddhist heritage sites in the Gandhara region of Pakistan. The event is designed to promote the value of Pakistan’s ancient cultural and religious heritage for peace and tourism. It also brings together diverse religious faith leaders including Muslims, Buddhists, Christians, Hindus and Sikhs to establish a dialogue. Over 40 Pakistani and international scholars and 30 artists will be presenting their research and artworks at the two-day event. International scholars presenting at the conference come from countries such as Sri Lanka, India, Nepal, Germany, Canada and United States. A delegation of 10 Buddhist women leaders from Malaysia will be visiting Pakistan specifically to participate in the conference activities and post-conference trips to Gandharan Buddhist sites.

As a holy land for millions of Buddhist devotees, Pakistan houses the Buddhist heritage sites, art and iconography of unmatched significance for devotees, scholars and travelers. The 2022 international conference and art festival together with site visits provide a platform to explore the Gandharan Buddhist history, philosophy, art, and architecture.

The conference sessions and art exhibition cover five key themes. Among these, three themes explore Buddhist history, philosophy, art and architecture flourished in the areas forming today’s Pakistan and transmitted to Afghanistan, Central Asia, China, Japan, Korea and other countries by arteries of the famous Silk Road. These themes include: 1) Buddhism in Pakistan - History and Philosophy; 2) Development of Gandharan Art and Architecture; and 3) Road to Buddhism: From Lumbini to Gandhara and beyond the Silk Road. One of the five themes is devoted to deliberate upon how diverse religions in Pakistan can help promote peace and social cohesion in society. Under the fifth and final theme, local and international scholars will discuss approaches and strategies to promote religious tourism in Pakistan.

Both in-person and online panel sessions will provide an opportunity to multiple presenters to speak on a common theme of the conference. Presentations by the panelists will be followed by questions and answers. Together with research presentations, the art festival happening concurrently with the conference features artworks showcased by young and established artists. Their works will present the outstanding beauty of Buddhist art of Gandhara. The artwork will be on display throughout the conference. After two days of the conference and art festival, attendees will visit key Gandharan Buddhist sites and archaeological museums in Taxila, Peshawar, Mardan and Swat.

Russia violates ceasefire in Donbass.

The ongoing escalation in Ukrainian-Russian relations is not a matter of just last few months. Ukraine has been facing external military aggression for 8 years, since February 20, 2014.
Since then, as a result of Russian hybrid invasion, parts of the sovereign territory of Ukraine (the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol as well as certain territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions) remain under temporary foreign occupation.
Since November 2021, Russian Federation has been consistently amassing troops along the border with Ukraine, waging military drills in close proximity to Ukrainian borders, extending a range of “security demands” to Ukraine and its international partners as well as NATO.
According to the latest estimations, the Russian contingent of armed forces is totalling about 107,000 troops stationed along Ukraine’s borders and in Crimea, 122,000 troops amassed at a distance of 200 km and more than 143,000 at a distance of 400 km and could potentially be ready for offensive against Ukraine at any moment.
Despite the efforts of Ukraine and international community, Russian Federation hasn`t given clear explanation for presence its troops near Ukrainian border and could not provide clear and convincing evidence of the withdrawal of its troops
Ukraine considers such Russian military presence as an unprovoked and unjustified, particularly, as it leads to deteriorating security situation on temporary occupied territories of Donbass.
The Russian armed formations have unleashed provocative firing along the entire length of the contact line in Donbas, significantly aggravating the already tense security situation.
During 18 February alone, Russia violated the ceasefire 66 times, including 52 times with the use of weapons prohibited under the Minsk agreements. Numerous Ukrainian villages have been shelled from the occupied territories, damaging civilian infrastructure and causing injuries to civilians and Ukrainian military. Russia’s illegal military formations launched 622 fi****ms attacks on the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The shelling and provocative fire represent gross violation by the armed formations of the Russian Federation of the additional measures to strengthen the ceasefire agreed within the Trilateral Contact Group on 22 July 2020. Russia is also violating its commitments under the Minsk agreements and the agreements reached by the leaders of the Normandy Format at their 2019 summit in Paris.
According to Article 2 (4) of the United Nations Charter, all UN Members shall refrain in their international relations from the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state. Based on provisions of Article 2 (4) of the UN Charter, Ukraine considers presence of Russian troops along its border as a direct threat of use of these forces against her territorial integrity and independence and, for this reason, as a violation of Article 2 (4).
The new wave of military aggression against Ukraine will lead to severe consequences not only for security of Ukraine but also for security of the entire Europe and far beyond the region. In case of a new stage of Russian offensive, new wave of Western sanction against aggressor state will be imposed, that would negatively affect not just Russian economy, but international business activity too. So not just European countries but also states beyond the region are interested in averting the worst scenario.
In this regard, Ukraine thanks to international community for all provided and future support to deter Russia from further aggression.
In connection with the last Russian side accusations of Ukraine of allegedly preparing an armed offensive in Donbas, the Embassy states, that Ukraine is adherent to a peaceful resolution of all international disputes and conflicts by diplomatic means and negotiations.
The government of Ukraine does not intend to launch an offensive operation in the temporarily occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions. Ukraine is not conducting or planning any sabotage acts in Donbas.
Ukrainian nationals reside on both sides of the contact line. Their peace, security and well-being are an absolute priority for Ukraine. So far, Ukraine remains firmly committed to the political settlement and, together with partners, pursue the diplomatic dialogue.
Ukraine urges the Russia to withdraw its military troops from the Ukrainian-Russian border immediately and thus deescalate tensions.
At the same time Ukraine reserves the rights, provided by Article 51 of the UN Charter, that envisages the states the inherited right of individual or collective self-defence.
We call on our partners to condemn immediately the ceasefire violations by the Russian armed formations in Donbas and urge Moscow to deescalate.

When we have skilled people if so, they will never be unemployed. Skilled people are in demand all over the world. Now we have to take tough and tough measures to overcome unemployment, which can further benefit us.

We have notice how our daily operations have changed. Likewise, financial opportunities are present particularly in online medium. Now banks, other financial institutes have changed their functions into apps. Similarly, anyone can earn something if he or she has any skill. This phenomenon is called investment in skills. During the operation, two suspects named Sanaullah Jan Bacha and Fazal Subhan both residents of Peshawar were arrested on the spot, Recovered weapons comprised eight 12 Bore Rifles, two 8 MM Rifles, fifty three 30 Bore Pistols, four AK-47 Rifles and ine 303 rifle.
During the search, various types of weapons magazines and iver 21,000 bullets were also recovered.The recovered Arms and arrested suspects have been handed over to the local police for further legal action.

A two days’ Consultative workshop was held at National Institute of Maritime Affairs (NIMA) Islamabad on 24 and 25 Sep 21 to discuss “Security Challenges post US/NATO withdrawal from Afghanistan at global & regional level in general and for Pakistan in particular”. Mr. Syed Ali Haider Zaidi, the Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs was Chief Guest. Dr. Moeed Yusuf, the National Security Advisor delivered the key note speech while Vice Admiral Faisal Rasool Lodhi, Vice Chief of the Naval Staff also addressed the workshop participants. A selected group of senior serving PN officers and retired Armed Forces officers, Former Ambassadors, Defense Analysts and Academicians participated in the workshop.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Ali Zaidi, the Minister for Maritime Affairs, appreciated the efforts of NIMA for organizing the workshop with an aim to bring out pertinent input for refining policy options for Pakistan. He said that the government is keenly watching the emerging scenario in Afghanistan. A peaceful Afghanistan is in the interest of Pakistan as well as the entire world. Same will help us enhance our regional connectivity with landlocked Central Asian States. Moreover, increasing trade with the regional countries and boosting economic opportunities in the Maritime domain, should be capitalized. He emphasized that in order to effectively counter the evolving maritime security challenges, there is a dire need to enhance the capacity and capability of Pakistan Navy as well as Pakistan Maritime Security Agency to effectively deal with traditional and non-traditional security threats to our maritime interests in Pakistan’s maritime zones, ports and harbors.
Mr Moeed Yousaf, in his keynote address highlighted Pakistan’s dilemma and sufferings during last four decades of Afghan war, none of which was Pakistan’s doing. He said that Taliban government is maintaining law and order in the country; however, the miseries of common people in Afghanistan are gradually cumulating due to emerging economic and logistic crisis. Pakistan being the immediate neighbor has no option but to remain engaged with Afghanistan. He said that Pakistan has always been supportive to the concerns and legitimate demands regarding inclusive government, protection of rights of all and no support to the international terrorist groups. He added that we supported Doha process to see its successful implementation and hope that world at large would join hands to support the existing Afghan government to bring peace and stability in Afghanistan.
The Vice Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Faisal Rasool Lodhi, underscored that the evolving situation poses opportunities as well as challenges for Pakistan which demands an in-depth analysis and careful articulation of policy options to safeguard own interests in the fragile situation. India has already unleashed propaganda to discredit Pakistan, which needs to be carefully monitored and countered. The economic crisis in Afghanistan, if not averted, will result in a large influx of refugees subsequently becoming an economic and security challenge for Pakistan. He emphasized that with space on land being constricted, Maritime security threats at sea will increase and the sea space can be exploited by State and Non-State Actors alike, which needs to be guarded against. He said in a strategic plane, Pakistan has to strike a balance between expectations of our own public, international community as well as Taliban while ensuring that our own interests are preserved. This is like crossing a tight rope but government has already adopted a well thought out and proactive strategic approach to achieve the ends. We need to realize that history is in making and Pakistan has to be on the right side of the history.
Earlier during his welcome address, Vice Admiral (R) Abdul Aleem HI(M), Director General NIMA, said that the consultative workshop has been organized to deliberate threadbare the post US / NATO withdrawal scenarios in order to further our national interests by overcoming political, security, social and economic challenges that may emerge due evolving situation.
The eminent speakers who spoke at the workshop on 1st day included, former Ambassador Asif Durrani, Former National Security Advisor, Lt Gen (R) Nasser Hussain Janjua, Vice Admiral (R) Khan Hasham Bin Saddique .and Air Vice Marshal (R) Faaiz Amir. The speakers emphasized upon the need to intensify the diplomatic and political efforts to keep Taliban government engaged on positive note and convince the rest of the world to support stability and peace in Afghanistan. The participants also highlighted the possibility of the use of sea by the fleeing miscreants from Afghanistan therefore Maritime Security should remain in focus to thwart any aggressive designs of the adversaries.
On second day of the workshop, Prof Dr. Khurram Iqbal, highlighted the strategic environment in the Indian Ocean Region and advised keeping a careful balance between powers operating in the area. He also cautioned about the increased chances of drugs, weapons and human trafficking in the Arabian Sea. Rear Admiral (R) Farrokh Ahmed HI (M) provided the insight about existing security apparatus available in North Arabian Sea and recommended cautious diplomatic approach in sync with the expectations of the international and regional community for peace and stability of Afghanistan. Vice Admiral (R) Asaf Humayun HI(M) in his key note address as Chief Guest for second day highlighted the challenges to maritime environment of Indian Ocean in general and North Arabian Sea in particular. He said if Afghanistan becomes unstable, nontraditional maritime threats will increase in the Arabian Sea which may impact our maritime economic aspirations. Summing up, he said; Pakistan may exploit potential maritime opportunities in the dynamic situation post US/NATO withdrawal from Afghanistan and in Indian Ocean region.
In the end, DG NIMA thanked all the worthy speakers and the participants for their valuable input in the workshop.

(APP): Prime Minister Imran Khan Sunday while lauding efforts of the ministry of Maritime Affairs, termed inclusion of Karachi Comprehensive Coastal Development Zone in China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) as a ‘game changer’.
He expressed the hope that it would help in cleaning up marine habitat for fishermen, develop low income housing units and creating investment opportunities.

Japan-Pakistan Foreign Ministers’ Meeting

On September 23, Mr. MOTEGI Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, during his visit to the United States of America, held a meeting with H.E. Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
Mr. MATSUDA Kuninori, Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan, stated that the realization of the face-to-face meeting between the two Ministers on the occasion of the UN General Assembly held in New York despite the pandemic, was extremely timely in view of current bilateral relations and regional affairs. He also expressed his appreciation for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan and the Permanent Mission of Pakistan to the United Nations for its dedications to realizing the meeting. The overview of the meeting is as follows.
Minister MOTEGI expressed his appreciation for Pakistan’s cooperation, including the acceptance of Self-Defense Force aircrafts, that enabled a Japanese national as well as Afghan staff of the Japanese Embassy and JICA office to safely depart from Afghanistan and requested continued support. Minister Qureshi responded that the Government of Pakistan would spare no effort on the evacuation of the above-mentioned persons.
The two Ministers exchanged views on the situation in Afghanistan, confirmed their shared goals including on inclusive political process and ensuring human rights to be respected, and also concurred on working together to prevent Afghanistan from reverting to a hotbed of terrorism and from destabilizing the region.
The two Ministers confirmed that they would further develop bilateral relations on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Pakistan in 2022.

Pakistan was held in Rawalpindi today, in which great concern was expressed over student issues in the country and non-availability of constitutional rights of students. Harassment in Institutions Expensive Education Hostel Problems Transport and Class Education System and Student Union Restoration and Campus Occupancy Groups Not Eliminated NSF Will Intensify Struggle Nationwide Institutions which should be stopped immediately, otherwise we may not be able to get out of the clutches of multinational companies and the IMF again. Pakistan and the people will have to work hard to get out of these atrocities.
The current problems of students and decades-old problems such as not providing free education to students for 12 years as per the constitution, corruption in board and university entrance tests, lack of hostels in universities and the existence of hostels in universities The issues of non-settlement and non-construction of new hostels in view of increasing admission in the university, lack of basic facilities in hostels, increasing fees of universities every year and conversion of universities into privatization were considered.
In view of these issues a Charter of Demand has been formulated which is as follows.
All children of the country should be provided free education for 12 years.
Curriculum should be based on scientific basis and the standard of education should be the same in private and public institutions.
