Process of Making an Alabaster Vase in Luxor Egypt
Filmed at the Abo El Komsan Factory for Alabaster store in Luxor Egypt.
During our tour in Luxor Egypt, we visited an alabaster shop and got to watch a step-by-step presentation on how they mine and process alabaster into objects using traditional methods that have been used for thousands of years.
What is not mentioned in this clip is that they still use a donkey and cart to carry the alabaster back to their shop after mining it from the quarry. Once it arrives at the shop, it is the grandfather who looks at each piece of alabaster to decide what it will be made into.

The shop is absolutely beautiful. They have great customer service, product knowledge, and a great range of price points from more affordable machine made pieces to large, elaborate, handmade pieces. I vaguely remember that they offered shipping but may be misremembering.
