In 1978, while still working on "Saturday Night Live," John Belushi appeared in the movie "Goin' South" (1978) which starred and was directed by Jack Nicholson. It was here that director John Landis noticed John and decided to cast him in his movie "National Lampoon's National Lampoon's Animal House" (1978). John's minor role as the notorious, beer-swilling Bluto made it a box-office smash and the year's top grossing comedy. Despite appearing in only a dozen scenes, John's performance stole the movie, which portrays college fraternity shenanigans at a small college set in the year 1962.
In 1979, Belushi appeared in "Old Boyfriends" with Talia Shire. According to Bob Woodward's John Belushi biography "Wired," Shire thoroughly enjoyed working with Belushi in this film. Knowing his drug problem, she told him after the film wrapped he was a great actor when not using drugs and that she wanted to work with him again in the future. Unfortunately, with Belushi's untimely death three years later, she didn't get the opportunity.
Also that year, John along with fellow SNL regular Dan Aykroyd, quit the series to pursue movie projects. John and Dan Aykroyd appeared in minor roles in Steven Spielberg's financially unsuccessful "1941" (1979) and, the following year, in John Landis' "The Blues Brothers" (1980). John's love for blues and soul music inspired the latter, which gave John a chance to act with his favorite musical heroes including Ray Charles, James Brown and Aretha Franklin.
In 1981, John appeared in the movie "Continental Divide" (1981), playing a hard-nosed Chicago newspaperman who finds romance in Colorado with eagle expert Blair Brown. That same year, John and Dan Aykroyd appeared again in the movie "Neighbors" (1981, below), which gave them a chance to reverse roles, with John playing a straight-arrow family man whose life is turned upside down when a wild family (Aykroyd and Cathy Moriarty) moves in next door.
Thus endeth John Belushi's seven-long film career. On March 5, 1982, Belushi was found dead in his hotel room at the age of 33. The local coroner gave the cause of death as a lethal injection of co***ne and he**in. (Credit: IMDb)

❤️WHY DOGS LIVE LESS THAN HUMAN?

Here's the surprising answer of a 6 year old child.

A veterinarian been called to examine a ten-year-old Irish Wolfhound named, Belker.

The dog’s owners, Ron, his wife Lisa, and their little boy Shane, were all very attached to Belker, and they were hoping for a miracle.

The vet examined Belker and found he was dying of cancer. He told the family he couldn’t do anything for Belker, and offered to perform the euthanasia procedure for the old dog in their home.

As they made arrangements, Ron and Lisa told him they thought it would be good for six-year-old Shane to observe the procedure. They felt as though Shane might learn something from the experience.

The next day, the vet felt the familiar catch in his throat as Belker‘s family surrounded him. Shane seemed so calm, petting the old dog for the last time, that the vet wondered if he understood what was going on. Within a few minutes, Belker slipped peacefully away.

The little boy seemed to accept Belker’s transition without any difficulty or confusion. They sat together for a while after Belker’s Death, wondering aloud about the sad fact that dogs' lives are shorter than human lives. Shane, who had been listening quietly, piped up, ”I know why.”

Startled, they all turned to him. What came out of his mouth next stunned them. The vet had never heard a more comforting explanation. It has changed the way he lives.

Shane said, ”People are born so that they can learn how to live a good life — like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right?” The six-year-old continued, “Well, dogs already know how to do that, so they don’t have to stay for as long as we do.”

Live simply.
Love generously.
Care deeply.
Speak kindly.

Remember, if a dog was the teacher you would learn things like:
• When your loved ones come home, always run to greet them.
• Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride.
• Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure Ecstasy.
• Take naps.
• Stretch before rising.
• Run, romp, and play daily.
• Thrive on attention and let people touch you.
• Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.
• On warm days, stop to lie on your back on the grass.
• On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree.
• When you’re happy, dance around and wag your entire body.
• Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.
• Be faithful.
• Never pretend to be something you’re not.
• If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.
• When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by, and nuzzle them gently.

That's the secret of happiness that we can learn from a good dog. Right, Harry Snyder? Harry knows!

Our beloved Israel was struck by a horrific tragedy. An Iranian-made rocket fired by Hezbollah hit a soccer field in the northern Druze town of Majdal Shams in the Golan Heights, killing 12 innocent lives—children and teens aged 10-20—and wounding dozens more. This is the deadliest, most devastating Hezbollah attack since the war began in October.

These children were playing soccer when suddenly, the scene turned into a nightmare of blood and carnage. Despite the warning siren, there was no time to escape. Medics declared 10 victims dead at the scene, with two more passing away at the hospitals and dozens more being treated. We bow our heads in sorrow and prayer for the families grappling with this horror.

THE PERFECT PET

A man goes into a pet shop and tells the owner he wants to buy a pet that can do everything.

The shop owner suggests a faithful dog. The man replies, “Come on, a dog?”

The owner says, “How about a cat?” The man replies, “No way! A cat certainly can’t do everything.

I want a pet that can do everything!” The shop owner thinks for a minute, then says, “I’ve got it! A centipede!”

The man says, “A centipede? I can’t imagine a centipede doing anything, but okay… I’ll try a centipede.”

He gets the centipede home and says to the centipede, “Clean the kitchen.” Thirty minutes later, he walks into the kitchen and… it’s immaculate! All the dishes and silverware have been washed, dried, and put away. The counter-tops have been cleaned and the appliances are sparkling. Even the floor was waxed. He’s absolutely amazed.

He says to the centipede, “Go clean the living room.” Twenty minutes later, he walks into the living room. The carpet has been vacuumed, the furniture cleaned and dusted and the pillows on the sofa plumped. It even watered the plants.

The man thinks to himself, “This is the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen. This really is a pet that can do everything!” Next he says to the centipede, “Run down to the corner and get me a newspaper.” The centipede walks out the door. 10 minutes later…no centipede. 20 minutes later… no centipede. 30 minutes later… no centipede.

By this point the man is wondering what’s going on. The centipede should have been back in a couple of minutes. 45 minutes later… still no centipede! He can’t imagine what could have happened. Did the centipede run away? Did it get run over by a car? Where is that centipede?

So he goes to the front door, opens it…and there’s the centipede sitting right outside. The man says, “Hey! I sent you down to the corner store 45 minutes ago to get me a newspaper. What’s the matter??!!” “I’m goin’! I’m goin’! I’m just putting’ on my shoes!”

WHERE DOES THE TIME GO?

Everyone my age (and older) was tuned in 55 years ago to the first moon landing. It was a Sunday, and I was watching in awe with my family.

Fifty-five years ago today, mankind made “a small step for man & a giant leap for mankind,” as Neil Armstrong said. The historic moon landing gave many their first glimpse at what lay beyond the Earth’s atmosphere.

I had the honor of getting to know Buzz Aldrin a bit, at a couple of radio conventions, and then having him as a guest on my radio show. Unfortunately, it was only live on air, and not taped.

Do you know that up to 20% of young people think the moon landing was staged in a Hollywood studio?

Do you remember where you were when this took place?

Whatever you do, DO NOT hire this construction crew.

They quoted me $800 to prep and form this driveway to be widened.

They have been working for 3 months and are just moving dirt from one pile to another.

The supervisor has not been helpful and keeps telling me to get away from the equipment. I told him I would be contacting a lawyer and he said he doesn’t care because he is really Spider-Man.

I definitely recommend avoiding this contractor and finding a reputable one that is at least over 5 years old.😂

82 YEARS AGO TODAY: French Jews Herded To N**i Death Camps

Family by family, house by house, French police rounded up 13,000 people on two terrifying days in July 1942, dispatching them to N**i death camps simply because they were Jewish. Eighty years later, France is honoring the victims, and trying to keep their memory alive.

For the dwindling number of survivors of France’s wartime crimes, commemoration ceremonies Sunday are especially important. At a time of rising antisemitism and far-left/right discourse sugarcoating France’s role in the Holocaust, they worry that history’s lessons are being forgotten.

A week of ceremonies marking 82 years since the Vel d’Hiv police roundup on July 16-17, 1942, culminated Sunday with an event led by President Emmanuel Macron.

The raids were among the most shameful acts undertaken by France during World War II, and among the darkest moments in its history.

Over those two days, police herded 13,152 people — including 4,115 children — into the Winter Velodrome of Paris, known as the Vel d’Hiv, before they were sent on to N**i camps. It was the biggest such roundup in western Europe. The children were separated from their families; very few, if any, survived.

From the daughter of the victim from the attempted assassination of our 45th president, Donald J. Trump. ... 💔

“The media will not tell you that he died a real-life super hero. They are not going to tell you how quickly he threw my mom and I to the ground. They are not going to tell you that he shielded my body from the bullet that came at us.” 💔

••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

Yesterday time stopped. And when it started again my family and I started living a real-life nightmare.
What was supposed to be an exciting day that we had all looked forward to (ESPECIALLY my dad), turned into the most traumatizing experiences someone could imagine.

I know the media will cover this event. And I'm going to try my best to stay away from looking at everything, especially because I've already seen and lived through it in real time. But I want everyone to know what the media will not cover, and will not say about him.

He was the best dad a girl could ever ask for. My sister and I never needed for anything. You call, he would answer, and he would do whatever it is you needed, and if he didn't know how he would figure out how. He could talk and make friends with anyone, which he was doing all day yesterday and loved every minute of it. He was a man of God, loved Jesus fiercely, and also looked after our church and our members as family.

The media will not tell you that he died a real-life super hero. They are not going to tell you how quickly he threw my mom and I to the ground. They are not going to tell you that he shielded my body from the bullet that came at us.

He loved his family. He truly loved us enough to take a real bullet for us. And I want nothing more than to cry on him and tell him thank you. I want nothing more than to wake up and for this to not be reality for me and my family.

We lost a selfless, loving, husband, father, brother, uncle, son, and friend. And I will never stop thinking about him and mourning over him until the day that I die too. July 13th will forever be a day the changed my life. I will never be the same person I was less than 24 hours ago.

There are a lot of children out there that say their dad is their hero, but my dad really is mine. I don't think I would be here today without him.

Dad, I love you so much that there aren't enough words to express how deep that love goes. I know you'll give heaven some hell. I know that God is proud of the man that came to His gates yesterday ❤️

A COOL WIZARD OF OZ STORY!

During the filming of the beloved classic "Wizard of Oz" in late 1938, the MGM production staff was looking for a coat for actor Frank Morgan to wear in his role as charlatan Professor Marvel. Mr. Morgan also played the Wizard and various small roles in the film. The film's publicist explained the kind of coat they were looking for: "They wanted grandeur gone to seed. A nice-looking coat but very tattered."

According to the publicist: ". . . the wardrobe department went down to an old second-hand store on Main Street and bought a whole rack of coats. And Frank Morgan and the wardrobe man and Victor Fleming [the director] got together and chose one. It was kind of a Prince Albert coat. It was black broadcloth and it had a velvet collar, but the nap was all worn off the velvet."

The coat fit Morgan perfectly. It had exactly the right look of shabby gentility, so they used it in the film.

One hot afternoon during filming, Frank Morgan happened to turn out the pocket. Inside was a name that caused Morgan to do a double take -- the name was "L. Frank Baum." Mr. Baum, of course, was the creator of "The Wizard of Oz." Back in 1900, he wrote the book that the film was based on, "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz."

The folks at MGM knew this was an astounding find. They figured out the identity of the tailor in Chicago and sent him pictures of the coat. The tailor sent back a notarized letter saying that the coat had been made for Mr. Baum. And then Mr. Baum's widow identified the coat, too.

MGM was convinced, but others thought the story was a publicity stunt. It sounds almost too good to be true--but what a great story.

A LOVE STORY 😄

A husband and wife are shopping in their local Wal-Mart. The husband picks up a case of Miller Lite and puts it in their cart.

'What do you think you're doing?' asks the wife. 'They're on sale, only $10 for 24 cans', he replies. 'Put them back, it's a waste of money', demands the wife, and so he does and they carry on shopping.

A few aisles further on along, the woman picks up a $20 jar of face cream and puts it in the basket.

What do you think you're doing?' asks the husband... "It's my face cream. It makes me look beautiful,' replies the wife.

Her husband retorts: 'So does 24 cans of Miller Lite and it's half the price....'

DIONNE DOES IT AGAIN!

The Legendary Songstress is enjoying the time of her life…at 83!

The inimitable Dionne Warwick, the original “it” girl, who, in a career that began in the 1960s, gave us such staples to pop music as “Don’t Make Me Over,” “Alfie,” “Walk On By” and “Do You Know The Way to San Jose,” could be resting on her laurels, but she is doing anything but that! In 2023, the singer, activist, host, community organizer and groundbreaking entertainer was honored with the prestigious Kennedy Center Honors, where Debbie Allen, Cynthia Erivo, Chloe Bailey, Ego Nwodim (who laughingly and lovingly plays Dionne on “The Dionne Warwick Show” skits on SNL), country superstar Mickey Guyton as well as The Spinners, the group with whom she recorded the #1 R&B/Pop hit “Then Came You,” sang and spoke her praises.

2024 shows that there is no stopping the train of triumphs and successes for an icon when that icon is Dionne Warwick! She will FINALLY be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. She acknowledges with a wit that made her the Queen of Twitter: “It is quite interesting that it’s happening now, because I’ve been nominated a couple of times before, and now they’ve finally gotten it right!”

Adding to her accolades this year, the woman who put the music of Burt Bachrach and Hal David on the musical map and who is hugely responsible for the many compositions that were the rhyme and reason behind their 2021 Gershwin Prize for songwriting, will be honored by that same institution this year. In a tribute to her stellar career and a legacy that has given us songs like “Anyone Who Had a Heart,” “I Say A Little Prayer,” “Message to Michael” and so many more, The Library of Congress will honor Warwick later this year.

If that weren’t enough, Warwick, the consummate song stylist and performer, has been recording new music. Since the COVID-19 pandemic and with so much that’s going on in the world, the “What The World Needs Now” singer has been recording inspirational music for a new project that will be released this year, of songs for the heart and for the soul because “it’s what we need right now. So much is going on and I know what music can do to help us move the conversation forward."

Dionne knows better that many as she rallied her friends Elton John, Stevie Wonder and Gladys Knight to perform “That’s What Friends Are For,” which became the anthem for the HIV/AIDS rallying cry that brought the country together to destigmatize the disease and called us to help each other. The song helped to raise awareness and raised millions for AIDS research and care.

HAPPY 91st BERNIE!

Happy Belated 91st birthday to PMPNetwork guest, Bernard Morton "Bernie" Kopell.

Known for his roles as Siegfried in Get Smart from 1966 to 1969 and as Dr. Adam Bricker ("Doc") in ABC's The Love Boat from 1977 to 1986.

Kopell's longest-running role by far was as Dr. Adam Bricker on The Love Boat, an Aaron Spelling production. The character was almost always referred to as "Doc". Kopell remained on the series during its entire run, appearing in 250 episodes.

Before becoming known for his The Love Boat role, Kopell appeared in many television series, often sitcoms. He appeared on The Jack Benny Program, Green Acres, Our Man Higgins, The Flying Nun, Ben Casey, My Favorite Martian, Petticoat Junction, The Streets of San Francisco, Room 222, The Mary Tyler Moore Show (where he met his future Love Boat star, Gavin MacLeod) and Kojak.

Kopell made memorable recurring appearances as KAOS agent Siegfried in Get Smart, Alan-a-Dale in When Things Were Rotten, Jerry Bauman in That Girl and Louie Pallucci in The Doris Day Show.

He played several characters on Bewitched including the witches' apothecary and the warlock Alonzo in "The Warlock in the Gray Flannel Suit".

He played Charlie Miller as a member of the cast of the situation comedy Needles and Pins, which ran for 14 episodes in the autumn of 1973.

He portrayed a plastic surgeon who gave Ed Brown a facelift on Chico and the Man. He played a director in an episode of Alfred Hitchcock Presents ("Good-Bye George"). About this same time, he guest starred on Phil Silvers's unsuccessful CBS sitcom The New Phil Silvers Show.

After The Love Boat, Kopell was so recognizable that he was not in roles often without a nod to his famous role. He appears as a coroner in "Which Prue is it Anyway", an episode of Charmed. Kopell appears in the Monk episode "Mr. Monk and the Critic", playing Mr. Gilson, the restroom attendant, where Mr. Monk referred to him as the Michelangelo of lavatories. Kopell guest starred in "Pinky", a 2009 episode of My Name is Earl.

He makes a cameo as a patient in the Scrubs episode "My Friend the Doctor", as well as an episode of the Disney Channel Original Series The Suite Life of Zack & Cody.

In a dream sequence of Fresh Prince of Bel Air Kopell made a parody cameo of himself as an actor who played a ship's doctor so many times he offers to perform an operation for real, while in a 1994 episode of Saturday Night Live he appeared as "Doc" during a Love Boat-themed spoof of Star Trek: The Next Generation.

In the 1995 Fox Network Get Smart Again series, Max's son (played by Andy Dick) meets Siegfried's daughter. When the young Smart tells how his dad always told him that he was a greeting card salesman, Siegfried's daughter replies, "My dad always had me believing he was a doctor on a cruise ship."

In 1996 on the Martin TV series Kopell along with Lauren Tewes, Ted Lange, and Jill Whelan reprised their roles. Kopell also made a cameo appearance in the 2008 film adaptation of Get Smart.

Kopell's role as Doc on The Love Boat was parodied in a humorous appearance on Late Show with David Letterman in 1995. Two entries in that night's Top Ten List poked fun at The Love Boat, and at the Doc character specifically. The camera cut to Kopell, who was sitting in the audience, and he stormed out of the theater. A few moments later, he was shown having been reseated in the mezzanine when the second parody was made at his expense, and again stood up, raised his fists and stormed out, obviously playing along with the host.

Some of his most recent work has been in television advertisements for Nasalcrom, carefully enunciating the product's name and assuring viewers "that's right, it's a spray".

Kopell has performed in the theater and played the lead role in the off-Broadway production of Vi**ra Falls in 2010.

In addition to her outstanding work in “Everybody Loves Raymond,” there’s another reason to love Patricia Heaton.

In a sea of celebrities who have been completely silent, or worse, when it comes to standing with the Jewish community, Patricia’s immediate and outspoken presence has not wavered.

She created O7C (the October 7th Coalition) to stand against antisemitism and to invite her Christian brothers and sisters, and anyone else who cares about Jews, to join her. At a time when hate is growing and brave voices are shrinking, we are extra grateful to our allies at O7C! And especially to Patricia!

BYE BYE TUPPERWEAR?

We are living in a time when companies that were once incredibly popular are closing locations and/or declaring bankruptcy. It's been the case for Bed, Bath & Beyond, Tuesday Morning, Christmas Tree Shops, The Body Shop, Red Lobster, Family Dollar, Sears, Express, Walgreens, CVS, Rite Aid, Pizza Hut, Boston Market, TGI Fridays, Popeyes, Outback Steakhouse and so many others. The issues are not only affecting stores, but brands as well, including an iconic one: Tupperware. The once-enormous company just shut down its only U.S. manufacturing plant amid financial struggles.

Earl Tupper developed and sold his first products under the Tupperware name in 1946. His plastic containers could contain food and keep it fresh, thanks to a "burping seal" that was patented in 1949. The containers were often sold by door-to-door salespeople as well as through presentations that took place mostly at parties. Tupperware has continued with the direct-sales route but in recent years, it has been difficult to find both salespeople and customers since most people now just order food storage items online or get them at their local stores.

Tupperware recently warned that they might no longer be able to continue with their business operations, saying there's "substantial doubt about the company's ability to continue."

In a subsequent statement, they revealed plans to combat their problems by saying, "The Company is reviewing its real estate portfolio for property available for potential dispositions or sale-leaseback transactions, and is exploring right-sizing efforts, monetization of fixed assets, cash management, and marketing and channel optimization, to preserve or deliver additional liquidity,"

Living up to that statement, last week they announced plans to shut down their only plant in the U.S., which is in South Carolina. The closure results in 148 employees losing their jobs.

A spokesperson for Tupperware described the move by saying, "We sold our Hemingway [South Carolina] facility last year and will be transitioning manufacturing operations by year end to our Lerma, Mexico plant, which already produces the bulk of the products for our U.S. and Canada markets."

It's not all bad for Tupperware, they also revealed, "We plan to invest in new distribution services through a new, state-of-the-art third-party logistics facility in the Midwest U.S. The transition is happening in phases throughout the remainder of the year." However, the company has delayed filing earnings reports, which is often a bad sign for finances. Their most recent earnings report happened in March, when they disclosed that their net sales were down 16% in the third quarter of 2023.
