In 1951, a significant development occurred when scientists at Brookhaven National Laboratory employed neutrons from a reactor to treat a cancer patient. Using the lab's graphite research reactor, they conducted an experiment to combat brain cancer. This pioneering approach, termed boron neutron capture therapy, involved injecting patients with a non-radioactive isotope called boron-10. As the boron amassed in the tumor, exposure to a neutron beam facilitated targeted destruction of tumor cells, preserving the adjacent normal tissue. This exemplifies the utilization of nuclear technology in the ongoing battle against cancer.

Some people have decided that they can never get married to a Radiographer no matter how fine he is. Indeed working with radiation requires alot of expertise and technical know-how which one of them is radiation protection. It is the duty of the Radiographer to protect himself or herself, patient and the general public from ionizing radiation when necessary. With proper safety measures, the risk of radiation-induced infertility is low. It is essential for radiographers to adhere to safety guidelines and wear protective gear to further reduce potential risks. Regular monitoring and adherence to safety standards help ensure the well-being of Radiographers.

Computed Tomography scans can be used to identify disease or injury within various regions of the body. For example, CT has become a useful screening tool for detecting possible tumors or lesions within the abdomen. A CT scan of the heart may be ordered when various types of heart disease or abnormalities are suspected. CT can also be used to image the head in order to locate injuries, tumors, clots leading to stroke, hemorrhage, and other conditions. It can image the lungs in order to reveal the presence of tumors, pulmonary embolisms (blood clots), excess fluid, and other conditions such as emphysema or pneumonia. A CT scan is particularly useful when imaging complex bone fractures, severely eroded joints, or bone tumors since it usually produces more detail than would be possible with a conventional x-ray.

This was my first day of clinical posting in 2021. I was really excited to finally get to the clinic and be able to see the practical aspects of what whe have been thought in class. Being in 300level without being to the Radiology department even for once wasn't something people will believe. If you carefully look at my neck tie it was not well arranged😹😹...I was so happy that I couldn't even wait to have it properly done before snapping. Although on getting to the clinic I couldn't start learning from where I wanted as I was posted to the ultrasound unit with my classmates, I had only seen few images of the modality and we haven't been taught properly because it is a 400l course. While looking at the ultrasound monitor I kept seeing just black and white things 😹😹💔.... but I enjoyed my first day regardless and it's a memory I will cherish forever....I wont say I didn't learn... at least i learnt ultrasound only shows black and white....not until recently I was properly taught ultrasound modality and then was aware that there's 3D and 4D ultrasound with better image quality. Whatever you are doing currently keep on at it... nothing is a waste, in due time everything will make sense☺️.....Do have a nice day🤗🌹
