What is happening?
The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a MODERATE flood warning for the Manning River and a
Minor flood warning for the Gloucester River.
MODERATE FLOODING POSSIBLE AT TAREE AROUND NOON SUNDAY, MINOR FLOODING EXPECTED AT GLOUCESTER AND WINGHAM EARLY SUNDAY MORNING.
Heavy rainfall has been observed across the Manning River catchment in the last 16 hours. Further heavy rainfall is forecast for the next 24 hours which may cause further river level rises.
A Severe Weather Warning is current for Very Heavy Rainfall, Abnormally High Tides, Damaging Surf and Damaging Winds for many districts including the Mid North Coast.
What we are expecting:
Gloucester River:
Minor flooding is expected along the Gloucester River.
The Gloucester River at Gloucester is expected to reach the minor flood level (4.30 m) around 04:00 am Sunday. Further rises are possible with forecast rain.
Manning River:
Moderate flooding may occur along the Manning River.
Data for the Wingham Water Level gauge is currently unavailable. The Manning River at Wingham is likely to reach the minor flood level (4.90 m) Sunday morning. Further rises are possible with forecast rain.
The Manning River at Taree is expected to exceed the minor flood level (1.80 m) around 08:00 am Sunday. The river level may reach the moderate flood level (2.40 m) around midday Sunday.
At Wingham and surrounding areas flood waters may start to impact low lying roads and bridges including:
* Bight Bridge between Tinonee and Wingham closes
At Taree and surrounding areas flood waters may start to impact low lying roads and bridges including:
* Possible isolation of Glenthorne and Manning Point
* Low lying foreshore areas in central Taree, Taree Estate, Glenthorne, Dumaresq Island and Pampoolah start to flood
* Possible road closures on the Lower Manning at Tea Tree Lane, Cowens Lane and Polsons Lane
* Should river heights continue to rise residents of Manning Point, Oxley and Mitchells Island need to consider the impact of potential isolation.
* Flooding of River Street and roads on Dumaresq Island begins
* Inundation of low lying areas of Cundletown begins
What you need to do:
Communities in and around Wingham need to closely monitor the situation and plan ahead around possible road closures and inundation of low lying areas.
People in low lying parts of Wingham Peninsular should prepare for possible evacuation.
• Refraining from driving or walking through flood water
• The impact of possible road closures and flood isolation on work, family and educational commitments
• Monitoring emergency warnings and severe weather updates on local ABC radio, NSW SES Mid North Coast page and Bureau of Meteorology website
• If your property is at risk of inundation, please raise moveable items, such as furniture, as high as possible onto benches or tables, placing electrical items on top
• If you live in a low-lying area and are advised by an emergency services officer to evacuate, please do so
• Securing outside belongings and before leaving; turn off the power, water and take essential medicines and clothes with you
