Farm attacks and murders are terrorism and sabotage

June 26, 2024

TLU SA declares that farm killings can no longer be considered a crime, but terrorism and sabotage.

"When a farmer and his workers, or any innocent citizen is hunted down with AK47s and R4 or R5 assault rifles and shot in cold blood, we realize that this is not ordinary crime, it is a terrorist attack and an act of sabotage against the country," says Bennie van Zyl, general manager of TLU SA.

"These incidents are not just a statistic that can be added by chance while the country's politicians in parliament are busy with egg dances for positions of authority," says Van Zyl. "Criminals and those awaiting trial bully each other to compete for a seat in the highest house of the land where this injustice against citizens has been ignored until now and has become commonplace."

The state has a constitutional responsibility to ensure the safety of its residents, financed by tax payments.

The recent attack on the farmer Francois Oosthuizen in KwaZulu-Natal, where he and two of his workers were attacked in their vehicle with assault rifles, can no longer simply be considered a crime. TLU SA asks: Is this not a war? Farmers, their families and workers can no longer carry out their duties to cultivate the land and produce food while he has to constantly look over his shoulder, knowing that at any moment, like so many of his predecessors, he will be just another victim of terrorist attack or sabotage can be. Self-defense is not even an option anymore because law-abiding citizens of this country are held hostage by criminals, and the SAPS' actions sometimes strengthen the criminals' hands and criminals know that they may never be found guilty.

Since 2019, the government has failed to effectively implement the National Rural Security Strategy. The serious injury of Oosthuizen, like many others, must not be dismissed as just another crime statistic. Here, a food producer was taken out of action with serious financial losses, not to mention the trauma and hospitalization that permanently changed his entire life. All this while the state remains absent.

Every commercial farmer's contribution to the nation's food supply is critical. If a farmer is eliminated, the food supply of around 2,000 people is threatened. Any responsible government will know that commercial farmers are an indispensable asset and must be protected at all costs. Food on the table is surely the greatest strategic asset of any country, and without it the country will grind to a halt.

Voters have clearly indicated that they are dissatisfied with the current government, and especially the poor security conditions. A new government of national unity will have to step in urgently, because it is unacceptable that South Africa, and specifically our farmers and their workers, suffer from security conditions.

We urgently need an effective and responsible new minister of the SAPS who will show the political will to take his task seriously, the SAPS will purge corrupt elements, including the criminals in its own ranks, ensuring that the SAPS, through effective work , now fulfills his civic responsibility by creating a safe state where citizens can live and work and that it is not this minister's job to serve an ideology or pamper crime with soft hands.

While this statement focuses on farm attacks, we recognize that crime across the country is out of control and no one is spared. The political will to address crime is largely absent. The government's constitutional responsibility to ensure crime prevention and combat has been largely absent for the past 30 years. South Africa's residents must be more purposeful from now on and consistently make their voices heard about the poor crime management of the past three decades and denounce it. Stop terror and sabotage and don't soften it to crime. This is much worse.

Two suspects nabbed in possession of stolen livestock

June 24, 2024

Two men aged between 41 and 52 years old, have been arrested for possession of suspected stolen livestock (cattle) by a Umzinyathi District office official at KwaSithole area under the Dundee policing precinct.

On Sunday, 23 June 2023 a very brave and vigilant police officer who was driving from Dundee to Kranskop on the R33 Road, noticed a bakkie pulling a trailer with four cattle inside. He then tactically approached the said bakkie to inspect the required documentation for transporting those cattle.

The bakkie had two occupants, and the trailer had four cattle. While checking the documents he found it not completed as required and the brand marks were not clearly visible. The occupants further failed to give proper explanation as to where they were taking these cattle to. The Glencoe Stock Theft and Endangered Species Unit was activated for further investigation. The lawful owner of the cattle from Dannhauser positively identified the said cattle they were then handed back to the owner.

The suspects were detained at the Dundee Police Station and they will appear in Court soon.

The Umzinyathi District Commissioner Major General Francis Slambert wishes to congratulate the police official for his bravery and professionalism in conducting this arrest as stock theft is one of the concerning crimes in the area.

Hi all. As many of you would have noticed this page and the other pages have slowly become less active overtime. Here is a bit of an update on why and also the future of the Farm Crime Updates channels.

I would like to thank each and every one of you for your continued support.

I have not had time nor the energy to continue updating any of the platforms, everytime I see another farm attack, farm murder or stock theft it drains all the energy out of me as its so disheartening to see what goes on on a daily basis. I am also working a job with long hours overseas so I land up not having time to do updates, when I do have free time is precious time which I tend not use up with doing stuff on my phone or any tech.

For the foreseeable future I will not be active on any of the platforms. I sought advice from someone who is involved with another channel on what I should do if this day were to come where I no longer have the drive to keep going with the channels, the advice was do not hand over the administrative role to any random person and just keep the channels for when I feel like carrying on.

I currently have no one that I can trust to ask to help runs things so the channels from now on will not be active.

I don't plan on deleting any of the channels, I intend on keeping them and at some point starting them up again.

After taking a break from all the negative things for the past while I honestly feel the best I've been in a while so, I think its the right time to take a bit of a more long term break.

Thanks again for everything so far and I hope to be back at some point sooner rather than later.

God bless, keep healthy and stay safe.

All the best,

Police Sergeant arrested for stock theft and possession of unlicensed fi****ms

March 29, 2024

The efforts to root out rogue elements within the South African Police Service in KwaZulu-Natal were intensified and during an operation on Thursday, 28 March 2024, a 39-year-old police Sergeant was arrested after he was found in possession of suspected stolen livestock as well as unlicensed fi****ms and ammunition.

Police officers who specialize in stock theft in Pietermaritzburg, working together with the Pietermaritzburg Tactical Response Team (TRT) were conducting an operation at Trustfeed in the New Hanover area when the Sergeant and two shepherds, aged 22 and 55 years old, were arrested.

The suspects were found in possession of 40 goats, seven cattle (which were reported stolen in Mooi River in December 2023), six fi****ms and several ammunition of various caliber of fi****ms.

The Provincial Commissioner of KwaZulu-Natal Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi has issued a stern warning to police officers who use their position within the South African Police Service to commit crime, that they are walking on thin ice and that their days are numbered. “We have a big fight on our hands, and that is the fight against brazen criminals. What we cannot afford is to have our own members working against us and we shall ensure that any police officer who is found to be stepping on the other side of the law is met with the maximum disciplinary action which will also be a deterrent to others”, said Lieutenant General Mkhwanazi.

The three suspects will appear in court soon.

22/02/2024

The South African Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Naledi Pandor, can request directly to the South African Police Minister, Bheki Cele, for extra security due to her and her family receiving threats due to her very Pro-Palestine stance in the ongoing Israel-Palestine war, but yet the farmers of South Africa who provide food for the entire country and other countries in the world can't even get the police to solve any crime in rural areas.

South African farmers face a huge threat of their and their families very lives being taken due to savages who love to murder farmers in the most brutal ways possible for no reason at all, South African farmers also have to deal with insanely high theft of many forms, livestock theft is probably the highest out of all farm thefts however it will vary depending on the area and farm as some may experience more theft of batteries, diesel, workshop tools, irrigation equipment, etc than livestock theft.

South African farmers have to fork out of their own pockets to secure their house's, yards and then pay for private security on top of that to be the first responder and to help with crime fighting yet the Minister of International Relations and Cooperation earns a monster salary and can A) get security due to being a Minister and B) get extra security because of threats all for free, this is all paid for by the tax payers.

Our farmers are out there working hard to make a living and produce food whilst having all these risks on a daily basis all while the government officials sit in their big fancy mansions with huge amounts of security all paid for by the tax payer doing absolutely no good for South Africa in any way.

Our two cents on the current state of SA.

Livestock fraudster sentenced to five years’ direct imprisonment

February 3, 2024

Kimberley Specialised Commercial Court convicted and sentenced 48-year-old Norman William Ellis on Friday 02 February 2024, for theft, fraud and corruption.

Between June and July 2018, the complainant placed an order to buy livestock from Ellis. A total amount of R87 500 was deposited into the bank account of the accused. Ellis purported to be a farmer dealing with livestock. He then failed to deliver the livestock and it was later established that he was actually a conman.

In another separate but related matter, Ellis, went to a dealership and made a deal to buy a bakkie opting to trade his current vehicle as a deposit. During the vehicle finance deal process, he borrowed an amount of R118 000 from the complainant. The loan was never settled as agreed upon and the complainant suffered an actual prejudice.

Ellis was found guilty and sentenced to five years’ direct imprisonment on both cases respectively without any option of fine. Both sentences will run concurrently.

Stock theft accused remanded in custody after being found in possession of 23 cattle worth R194 000

January 26, 2024

Mosimanegape Vincent Lekaota (31) was remanded in custody on appearance before the Klerksdorp Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 25 January 2024, for possession of suspected stolen livestock. He is expected to reappear before the same court on Tuesday, 30 January 2024, for formal bail application.

The accused was arrested on Monday, 22 January 2024, after members of Stilfontein Stock Theft and Endangered Species Unit (STES) operationalised information regarding cattle, which were allegedly stolen in the vicinity of Schweizer-Reneke, and in transit to Gauteng Province for auction. Consequently, a white Hino truck with two male occupants and loaded with 23 cattle worth R194 000.00 was stopped on the road between Dominionville and Hartbeesfontein. The police established during inspection that the cattle were recently brand marked with a brand mark registered under the name of the truck passenger. Further probe resulted in the positive identification of the rightful owner in Schweizer-Reneke. Thus, the passenger of the truck was arrested.

The Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena applauded all the members involved in the operation for their diligence to ensure that the accused is brought to book and stolen cattle are recovered.

Provincial Commissioner welcomes a sentence imposed upon a rhino poacher

January 25, 2024

The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has welcomed the recent sentence imposed upon a rhino poacher. The sentence was handed down by the Skukuza Regional Court against Million Masilane (48) on Friday, 19 January 2024 for rhino poaching related offences.

The court heard how Masilane, together with his accomplice, Lot Baloyi entered the Kruger National Park through Pretoriuskop Section with an unlicensed firearm back in March 2020.

They reportedly killed two white rhinoceros and removed the animals’ horns.

The Field Rangers employed by the South African National Parks (SANPARKS) realised that there were intruders inside the Park and it was during this time that the rrangers began to trace the two men.

In the process, Baloyi is said to have tried to scare everyone who was pursuing them by firing some shots. Instead of retreating, the field rangers followed them and eventually managed to apprehend both of them.

The Rangers alerted the Skukuza SAPS members and the accused together with his accomplice were arrested then charged accordingly.

An unlicenced firearm as well as rhino horns were recovered at the scene. Thereafter, the two were taken to court and later, both Masilane and Baloyi were granted bail but they decided to abscond from attending court as they were being anticipated to show up for the case. This led the court to issue Warrants for their arrest.

The men and women in Blue at Skukuza worked tirelessly and their hardwork paid off as they managed to trace and arrest Masilane in Calcutta area on 11 October 2023 however Baloyi is still at large but that did not deter the court from carry on with the case.

As a result, on that Friday (19 January 2024) Masilane was convicted then sentenced by the Court as follows:

– On Count 1 – trespassing in a National Park, the accused was sentenced to two (02) years imprisonment

– On Count 2 – killing of two white rhinoceros in a National Park, the accused was sentenced to ten (10) years imprisonment.

– On Count 3 – possession of unlicensed firearm, the accused was sentenced to five (05) years imprisonment

– On Count 4 – possession of a prohibited firearm (no serial number), the accused was sentenced to six (06) years imprisonment.

– On Count 5 – possession of a firearm with the intention to commit a crime, the accused was sentenced to four (04) years imprisonment

– On Count 6 – possession of unlicensed ammunition, the accused was sentenced to two (02) years imprisonment

– On Count 7 – conspiracy to commit a crime, the accused was sentenced to four (04) years imprisonment

– On Count 8 – possession of a dangerous weapon, the accused was sentenced to one (01) year imprisonment.

The Court ordered that sentences on count 1 and 7 to run concurrently with sentence on count 2 and that the sentences on count 3,5,6 and 8 to run concurrently with the sentence on count 4. Therefore the accused was sentenced to an effective 16 years imprisonment. The accused was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.

Meanwhile the Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has further acknowledged with much appreciation the job well done by the Field Rangers from SANParks, the Investigation team, the Prosecution team as well as the Judiciary.

Police arrest suspects for stock theft and possession of suspected stolen solar panels

January 21, 2024

The fight against crime in rural areas gained success after police arrested seven suspects in two separate incidents.

In the first incident reported on Saturday, 13 January 2024, information was received by Lehurutshe Stock Theft and Endangered Species Unit (STES), leading to a cattle post in Nietverdiend where five Bonsmara cattle were found without brand marks. Police seized the cattle and took them to a local pound. Upon further investigation, tattoo marks were found inside the cattle’s ears, leading the police to the rightful owner who reported that ten of his cattle were stolen earlier this month from his farm in Zeerust. Consequently, investigations resulted in the arrest of three suspects on Friday, 19 January 2024. The suspects, aged between 27 and 41, will appear before the Zeerust Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 22 January 2024, on a charge of Stock Theft.

In another separate incident reported on Friday, 19 January 2024, Ventersdorp police, with the assistance of local farmers, apprehended four suspects between the ages of 33 and 37, after being found in possession of suspected stolen solar panels.

It is alleged that solar panels were stolen from a farm at about 20:00. Thus, the suspects’ vehicles; a Toyota Yaris and Opel sedan were traced and spotted on the R30 road between Ventersdorp and Derby. The four suspects were nabbed after being found with 12 solar panels in their vehicles.

They will appear before the Ventersdorp Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 22 January 2023, for possession of suspected stolen goods (solar panels).
