PROFILE FOR THE 119 NEW CASES:

i. Seventy six (76) cases identified through healthcare facility screening in Lusaka;
ii. Twenty three (23) contacts to known positive cases in Lusaka;
iii. Thirteen (13) individuals identified from routine community screening in Lusaka;
iv. Three (3) healthcare workers screened in Lusaka;
v. Four (4) BIDS in Lusaka.

SADC undertakes a technical experts mission to the Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia Border -

SADC has appointed a team to undertake a technical experts mission to the Congo DRC and Zambian Border.

This follows the security incidents which occurred in mid-March 2020 along the Zambia and Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) border in the Lakes Tanganyika and Mweru.

According to a communique by SADC, the objective of the Mission is to conduct sensitization campaigns for various target groups in order to secure full cooperation of the local population.

The Mission also aims to facilitate the adoption of common system for determination of the border coordinates, and a phased approach for the border demarcation and identification of key reference beacons along the border.

Chairperson of the Organ on Politics, Defense and Security Affairs, President Emmerson Mnangagwa directed the Executive Secretary of SADC to facilitate the constitution and deployment of a Technical Experts Team to conduct a mission to the affected border areas and the Mission is to run from 23rd to 29th July.

The Technical Experts Border Issue Team Mission is comprising of experts from Botswana, DRC, Zambia and Zimbabwe and supported by the SADC Secretariat.

Local government Minister Charles Banda has suspended the Lusaka and Kitwe city councils for three months over illegal land allocation.

This means the two Mayors Miles Sampa and Christopher Kang'ombe and their councilors will not be able to perform their respective functions.
