Holy moly did I luck out today with the most beautiful sunrise at the Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm in Woodburn, OR! 🌷Keep an eye out for the story on CBS Weekend News!
Migrants crossing the U.S.-Mexico border in Arizona
Our story from Feb. 24 -- Camilo Montoya-Galvez and I met Maria, a woman who had been shot by Mexican cartels on her way to the U.S. She hopes to get to Wisconsin where she says her husband and children are. She's been away from them for five years.
A group of volunteers provided Maria and other migrants who were seeking asylum with food and shelter before border patrol picked them up.
Was the door that flew off the Alaska Airlines plane Friday night bolted in place? That's what investigators are still trying to determine in this wild story that could have had a horrific ending. Thankfully, no one suffered any major injuries on the flight. Passenger Kelly Bartlett spoke to me yesterday and described the sudden feeling of wind inside the cabin, and the moment a passenger who'd been sitting in the row where the plug fell out climbed into the seat next to her.
Bob Sauer, a Southwest Portland resident, found the plug door in his yard Sunday night. "I could see that there was something gleaming white underneath the trees that isn't normally there. And when I went to investigate, it was very obviously part of a plane," he said.

Every tree has a story. In Oregon -- a top state for Christmas tree farming -- that story sometimes involves a helicopter ride! I've always loved shooting how-it's-made-style videos, and this Christmas tree farm shoot really scratched that itch. Whether you rented your tree, cut it down yourself, or bought it from a lot this year, I hope you enjoyed it and have a little more insight into the tree's story after watching this.
Chuck Palahniuk discusses his new novel with CBS News
The goal for 2024 is to share more of my work! Here's a story that aired before Christmas on author Chuck Palahniuk and his new novel, "Not Forever, But For Now." Chuck and I had a great time shooting at his home outside of Portland. Though his novels are dark and twisted, Chuck is surprisingly warm and friendly!
Hey everyone! I’m joining my former coworkers from KOIN in running the Hood to Coast relay race in a couple weeks on August 25 and 26. In this race, participants run from Timberline Lodge on Mount Hood to Seaside on the Oregon coast — 196 miles! The distance is divided among each person on the team. KOIN is using the race as an opportunity to raise money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and I would love if you’d consider donating and supporting our efforts. Thank you for your generosity and I look forward to running for this amazing cause!

It's been nearly 6 years since the Eagle Creek Fire burned 48,000 acres in the Columbia River Gorge just east of Portland. Since then, the landscape has completely transformed.
New trees and plants now stand about 6 feet fall and wildlife -- including deer, elk, cougar and bobcats -- have all returned to the area.
I tagged along with Ralph Bloemers, a documentary photographer and director with Green Oregon, to see the transformation for myself. Bloemers has been documenting the rejuvenation over the years and hopes people will think more about what the forest gained instead of what it lost from this fire. Goooood morning -- and surprise! Look who was on your television this morning! Thanks to KOIN News AM Extra for having me on to talk about all the fun Easter events taking place this weekend. You can read more about them here: https://bit.ly/43asFqM
Last week, I had the pleasure of watching an incredible brain surgery at OHSU. Rick Cranston suffers from essential tremor, a disorder that causes his hand to shake. By the end of the procedure, his hand was nearly as still as a statue. Story: https://bit.ly/3nxYsSc
I don’t know what’s harder, returning to work after my wedding weekend or returning after my honeymoon 😆
Glad to be back at KOIN today, but I’ll be thinking about this view of the Oregon coast.
I sat down with Jeff Gianola to discuss the ins and outs of the Nancy Crampton Brophy murder trial, what I thought of the verdict, and what might have swayed the jury.
Low quality video, high quality sunshine on my chilly bike commute this morning!
Small towns tapped out by water infrastructure costs
A few stumbles, a few “ums,” but I made it through my first in-person talkback!
I sat down with KOIN News anchor Dan Tilkin to discuss the first story in my series focusing on water infrastructure in Oregon. This story took a close look at how much water infrastructure projects are expected to cost Oregon cities and the difficulties small cities, like Amity, have with paying for major system improvements.
