POST: Part 3: May 30th 2022: Following recent Conversations with David Hagarty, co-owner of Coffs Harbour’s CBD COCOA’S Restaurant, and Alec, this post considers another brief comment on the ‘Coffs Jetty Revitalisation Draft Masterplan ...’, through the eyes of some of the audience who attended the May 12th 2022 presentation High School Precinct, Jetty Village, by The Department of Planning, Industry and Environment.
In the weeks following the May 12th presentation, conversations with local stakeholders (who are also residents) have included several local builders, civil/structural-design engineers, transportation advocates, postal delivery personnel, CHCC personnel, CBD business owners, local counsellors and Tourism operatives ...et al
Some of the attendees at the presentation felt that answers to their questions were not addressed sufficiency and many were also not happy with the poor acoustics and visuals – Indeed, Does Coffs Harbour with its 85K + population have a ‘Tiered-Seating’, theatre-style venue with its own quality sound systems appropriate enough for such an important project review. Which the Ancient-Greeks had solved over approximately 2,500 years ago and not to mention the Romans of course!
Returning to the topic of buildings, Coffs, own ‘in-progress’, 100k cultural-civic space centre, when one my interviewees asked a question about “Why the ‘Draft masterplan ... did not appear to include an interlinked road and public transport system?”
The answer came back was “Because of the cost” So, we are ‘happy’ to spend 100k + on a single building, but not on the beginnings of a Road/PT network, before ‘building commencement ...?’
Is the ‘Masterplan’ going to be like so many other ideas that result in buildings and very little of anything else? “How do we address people movement and meetings challenges, or is it – “We will worry about that afterwards ...??”
