SADGATI (1981)
Satyajit Ray directed Om Puri, Smita Patil and Mohan Agase in this television film based on caste discrimination in Indian society. The script was based on a story by the great Munshi Premchand.
The film reaches up steadied on Om Puri and Smita's impeccable portrayal of an impoverished lower caste couple and yanks bare the ugly face of casteism in the country.
Sadgati was a rare moment in the history of Hindi cinema when the wizardry of two legends of their respective art, Ray and Premchand came together to create an important film which sadly remains as relevant as ever even after 40 years of its release.
