From Stephany Zamora, Executive Producer: And so began the journey of a lifetime… thank you everyone who made this possible!
Thank you Talia Stroud for sharing your thoughts on Trustworthy. We love that it is starting conversations!
Trustworthy takes on the Windy City! Thank you panelists Elizabeth Coffman (School of Communication Interim Dean), Griffin Krueger (SPJ Student President), and Lee Hood (PhD, School of Communication, Associate Professor) for helping put on this event at Loyola Chicago, and thank you to everyone who came and discussed Trustworthy with us. Great conversations were had!
Panelist Highlight: Dr. Tania Israel
--
Dr. Tania is a Professor of Counseling, Clinical, and School Psychology at UC Santa Barbara and a valued panelist at past and future Trustworthy events.
She says of a previous event, "I loved hearing the audience response to Trustworthy. People came up to me afterward and shared how political polarization is affecting their lives and what they got out of the film."
"Americans are trying to understand how we got here, as well as how to move beyond division. Trustworthy offers us some insight and hope in these difficult times."

Arizona we’re coming (back) for you! Tomorrow we'll be at the Fox Theatre with KVOA Tucson. Looking out at that full theatre at our first self-thrown 'Trustworthy' event at the Skirball Center was really amazing. Lots of great feedback and follow up! Thank you to everybody who made this fantastic event possible!
The discussions went on well after the screening, I am inspired by the participation. I received so many words of encouragement, appreciation, wisdom, advice, and some really important questions. So many voices heard!

Find all screening info at www.trustworthydoc.com/screenings.
We were so honored to be joined by panelists Alex Mahadevan, Curtis Bram and Deb Aikat at the AEJMC Conference in Washington DC! Thank you Deb, Amanda and Felicia at AEJMC for making this Trustworthy screening possible!
Trustworthy tours Philadelphia! Great to be where it all started! You can feel the history the moment you step into the city. Touring the museums is a stunning reminder of our tenacious endeavor to form a more perfect union, so many faces and stories over the centuries, so many more to come! 🔔🇺🇸
Wowza. We don’t know what’s prettier — TRUSTWORTHY Executive Producer Stephany Zamora or the TRUSTWORTHY billboard at Paramount Studios over the weekend. We couldn’t decide, so we gave you both in one shot. 💕🇺🇸 Supporting trustworthy journalism at the Southern California Public Radio 2023 Gala. # trustworthydoc.com
Honored beyond words that TRUSTWORTHY was chosen as the keynote event at USC Annenberg’s “Hear Us” conference — organized by students for students to spotlight diversity, inclusion and cultural awareness. There were tacos. There was a special screening. And there was an inspired panel discussion between moderators Miko Mariscal and Sanika Newaskar and Team Trustworthy’s Stephany Zamora, Miki Turner and Denise Quan that left us feeling 🙏🤩💖. Thank you to Miki, Skyler Pak, Willow Bay, the USC Annenberg Cross-Cultural Student Association, , and for their exceptional hospitality. And to all our new friends at USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism, Fight On! (Cue “Conquest”)✌️
Got 59 seconds? Check out the new teaser trailer for TRUSTWORTHY!
We can’t wait for you to see the full documentary. It’s a beautiful pastiche of esteemed experts and everyday Americans we met on city streets, dirt roads and the random BBQ joint during our cross-country bus tour — all sharing their thoughts on the media, trust, democracy and whether we can find common ground (and it’s set to some pretty fabulous music, too). The film will challenge you to become a better news consumer, and to lean into our shared humanity. Made with love all over the United States by a production team filled with people of different backgrounds, life experiences and political persuasions. Just like America. 🇺🇸 Keep watching this space. We’ll be unveiling updates!

Happy International Women’s Day! We didn’t realize the power of three women helming TRUSTWORTHY until people commented on it during early Zoom meetings. Today we raise a (wine) glass to all females around the globe!🍷May you recognize your own power, and celebrate it today and every day. 👊 In sisterhood solidarity, Stephany, Dana and Denise. 💕 P.S. This photo was taken on a break during a brainstorming session at Stephany’s. Can’t wait to tell you about upcoming events soon!
In honor of President’s Day, our friend Dr. Tania Israel put together a collection of quotes from past and present Commanders-in-Chief that stand the test of time. Here’s to unity, and reminding ourselves that we are the United States of America — not the Divided States of America. More on this topic from Dr. Israel in our documentary, TRUSTWORTHY (and more in her book, “Beyond Your Bubble: How to Connect Across the Political Divide”). P.S. We’re working on screenings! Stay tuned!🤞

Paula Madison carries herself with a quiet dignity that only comes from earned experience coupled with spectacular achievement. Raised in Harlem by a single mom, she graduated from Vassar, and was working toward a Master’s degree at Syracuse University when she took a leave of absence due to a high-risk pregnancy — never to return. In 1975, she was hired as a cub reporter at the Fort Worth Star-Telegram in Texas. After honing her skills in newsrooms across the country, she was named Vice President and News Director at WNBC in New York, and then President and General Manager at KNBC in Los Angeles. Prior to retiring from the news biz, she held the post of EVP and Chief Diversity Officer at NBCUniversal Media. Yet after all her success as an executive, Paula still considers herself a journalist, first and foremost. In our clip above, she explains what makes her trustworthy — and we wholeheartedly agree. We are so pleased to feature Paula Madison in TRUSTWORTHY.
On January 6th, 2021, Stephany Zamora watched in horror at events unfolding at the U.S. Capitol. On January 7th, she woke up and decided to make a documentary about media distrust, how it affects our democracy and whether we can find common ground. Never mind that she was a private citizen with zero production experience. That fall, she packed her bags, boarded a 40-foot tour bus with nine strangers and began a cross-country journey to speak with experts and everyday Americans about what we can do to become better news consumers and critical thinkers. And now we have a feature documentary we can’t wait to share called TRUSTWORTHY. Happy 2nd Anniversary of your audacious brainstorm, ! Don’t stop believing. 👊
TRUSTWORTHY is like a present sitting under the tree…finished, with a big bow on top and waiting for you all to unwrap it! 🎁 We just need to figure out distribution (Santa, if you want to do a chimney drop, please speak with our agent at UTA 😉). Many thanks to all of YOU for following our epic journey, and for your unwavering support during post-production and beyond. Your comments, “likes” and words of encouragement have been much appreciated. Wishing you truth, trust and hope on this holiday. And screenings! More about that after the New Year. Good things to come!
With love, from Team Trustworthy. ❤️
Dear Santa, this is what we want for our next bus tour. (Not gonna lie — some of the hotels we stayed at were a little sketch) 😉

When we booked talent for TRUSTWORTHY, we didn’t intend to book a bunch of women. It just happened that way, because they were the best for the job. 👊 We couldn’t resist taking a group photo of the beautiful and accomplished women who made it to our wrap party: (from L to R) USC Professor Stacy Scholder, Psychologist/Author Dr. Tania Israel, KVOA News Director Cathie Batbie-Loucks, NABJ Educator of the Year Miki Turner, Political Commentator/Host Rochelle Ritchie and Singer/Songwriter Shea Diamond (whose song, “I Am America,” you’ll hear in TRUSTWORTHY). Shine on, ladies! 🤩

TRUSTWORTHY Day 21: NYC. The last day of our cross-country trek took us to Manhattan’s historic East Village, where our crew squeezed into the sun-drenched apartment of Andie Tucher, professor at Columbia Journalism School and author of “Not Exactly Lying: Fake News and Fake Journalism in American History.” Nobody delivers media history in a more knowledgeable and engaging manner than Andie. So excited to have her as one of our key voices in TRUSTWORTHY. Follow our journey on FB @Trustworthy Documentary, and on Insta @trustworthysocial. 🎬 . . #journalism #columbiauniversity #documentary #filmmaking #mediabias #newsworthy
TRUSTWORTHY Day 18: The Mall. A funny thing happened on the way to The Mall in Washington, D.C. We met one of the best “Voices of the People” we could ask to feature in our film. His name was Babatu, and he was our rideshare driver. With the hard-earned wisdom that comes from seven decades on this earth — many spent as a cabbie in our nation’s capital — Babatu lends a homespun elegance and deeply resonant humanity to TRUSTWORTHY. Thank you, Babatu. And thank you to whomever dropped this everyman philosopher into our Lyft that autumn morning in DC. 👊 Follow our journey on FB @ Trustworthy Documentary, and on Insta @trustworthysocial. 🎬 . . #washingtondc #thecapital #dc #themall #documentary #filmmaking #production #onlocation
TRUSTWORTHY Day 16: Duke. We headed over to the beautiful campus at Duke University to interview Curtis Bram, a Ph.D. candidate and instructor researching the effects of media bias on political polarization. We also found some thoughtful folks to speak with for the “Voices of the People” segments we weave throughout the film. A big thank you to Curtis for holding the keys to Duke for our documentary crew — literally and figuratively! Follow our journey on FB @ Trustworthy Documentary, and on Insta @trustworthysocial. 🎬 . . #duke #dukeuniversity #curtisbram #shaunking #politicalpolarization #mediabias #documentary #filmmaking
TRUSTWORTHY Bus Tour, Day 12: Miami. It's impossible to roll through Miami and not pay homage to Univision’s legendary anchor, Teresa Rodriguez. 👑 The 15-time Emmy winner spoke with Team Trustworthy about the importance of journalists building trust in the LatinX community, and how Univision has rolled out El Detector, a fact-checking platform designed to combat misinformation. Lots of great stuff with Teresa in the doc. 💕Follow our journey on FB @Trustworthy Documentary, and Insta at @trustworthysocial. 🎬 #univision #emmywinner #miami #latinx #journalism #documentary
TRUSTWORTHY Bus Tour Day 6: Angels. Our stop at St Luke's On The Lake Episcopal Church in Austin was pretty magical, thanks to Father Justin Yawn and Nancy Phillips. 💕 In our documentary, we show a bit of Pint Night, where Father Justin held a roundtable to talk about what we can do when political polarization impacts our personal relationships. He capped off the night with a prayer for our crew, and blessed a guardian angel medallion to take with us on the road. 😇 His prayer: “Watch over them as they travel to their next destination. Help them find peace and solace in what they're doing in getting us talking to one another, and seeing each other as human beings — nothing more, but just bringing us together." Can we get an "Amen?!" 🙌 Follow our journey here and on IG at @trustworthysocial. 🎬 #austintexas #stlukes #documentary #filmmaking #bustour
TRUSTWORTHY Bus Tour Day 5: Austin. We were blown away by the southern hospitality we received from Scott & Talia Jomini Stroud, the Ph.D. power couple who founded the Center for Media Engagement at the University of Texas, Austin. Because of Covid, we were initially trying to conduct our interviews outdoors, but Mother Nature had the last laugh. 🌬 #stroudworthy 💕Follow our journey here and on Instagram at @trustworthysocial. 🎬 #austintexas #utaustin #journalism #documentary #filmmaking
TRUSTWORTHY DAY 3: OLD EL PASO. Que pasó, El Paso? This is us, just goofing around on the way to El Paso, and in El Paso. Because nothing says TRUSTWORTHY more than our Executive Producer dancing with an imaginary friend. 💃 Follow our journey here and on Instagram at @trustworthysocial. 🎬 #trustworthy #elpaso #documentaryfilmmaking #production #filmmaking
An ode to Earth Day…because the leaves we came across on our trek across the country were truly magical. And because you’re never too old to play in the leaves. 🍂🍁 Let’s not take Mother Nature’s gifts for granted. 🙏 #HappyEarthDay2022 #earthday #TRUSTWORTHY #documentaryfilm
Estranged relationships? Us, too. 😢 Dr. Tania Israel shares smart strategies on starting conversations with friends and fam across the political divide. We’re excited to have this badass psychologist teach us to how listen better, embrace empathy and manage emotions in TRUSTWORTHY. And she even signed our copy of “Beyond Your Bubble.” Woo hoo! Thanks, Tania. 💕 #psychology #psychologist #beyondthebubble #documentaryfilmmaking #mediabias
