Postcards... From The Flightpath....

In the mid 1980s, I created and published Flightpath Magazine. It was fast learning curve, not only as a publishing editor, but graphic artist, story writer, photographer, and indeed pretty much a one man show. I did have some amazing support from a great photographer who not only was a perfectionist, but introduced me to the love of photography.

All that aside it was also a business and another fierce learning curve and economic times were a little tough back then; interest rates were beyond belief compared to today's world. Even the pilots strike caused both financial and many difficulties with publishing. It was a tough gig which led to me eventually selling the publication to a large Sydney publisher in the mid 90s.

But the concept was a proven winner and Flightpath continued to prosper right up until 2020 when it was finally scrapped. The publication, along with many other magazines, and indeed many newspapers, no longer had a place on our newsagents shelves, simply because of the medium you are now reading.

The modern world demands instant news and instant stories. Magazines are an expensive production with long waits in between. It simply isn't supportable without a large portfolio of publications to weather the ebbs and flows.

But I have never lost my passion for aviation or from writing, so I have launched this blog to continue my interest and bring you some stories that will always be a little different. A step back in the past perhaps on why I started Flightpath in the first place. I am also travelling enabling me to post from the road without being bound by the production limitations and scheduling a printed publication brings.

Unlike set format printed publications, posts here will be at random. I may post three or four stories in a week, or perhaps one in a month. This is why the subscription rate is so attractive! I can't promise you a regular post, but I can promise plenty as they come to hand.

Postcardsflightpath is also a sister blog to my travel blog, postcardsroadside.

I hope you enjoy postcardsflightpath and feel free to write, say hello, or post a comment...I would love to hear from you! Photos can be seen within each post - just scroll down!

Stay tuned...
