SPEED LIMIT DEBATE

Should South Africa lower its speed limits?

The Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) proposed reducing speed limits by 10km/h in 2022, but the plan has been met with skepticism.

Proposed changes:
60km/h in urban areas → 50km/h
100km/h on major roads → 90km/h
120km/h on highways → 110km/h

But will it really make our roads safer? Road safety expert Rob Handfield-Jones says there's no evidence that lowering speed limits reduces road fatalities.
