The Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony has officially announced the sighting of the moon of Rajab 1446 AH in Pakistan.

Therefore, the first day of Rajab will be observed on Thursday, January 2. This declaration follows the decision of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, which convened earlier to confirm the moon sighting.

Rajab is a significant month in the Islamic calendar, and the moon sighting marks the beginning of a time for spiritual reflection. Muslims in Pakistan and around the world celebrate this time with devotion and reverence.

The National Highway Authority (NHA)

has announced an increase in toll taxes for national highways and motorways, effective January 5, 2025. On the M-1 motorway, connecting Islamabad to Peshawar, the toll for cars rises from Rs460 to Rs500.

The M-3 motorway, linking Lahore to Abdul Hakeem, will see a jump from Rs650 to Rs700 for cars, while the M-4 motorway, from Pindi Bhattian to Faisalabad and Multan, will go up from Rs850 to Rs950.

The M-5 motorway, running from Multan to Sukkur, will charge Rs1100 for cars, up from Rs1050. The toll tax for cars on the Dera Ismail Khan to Hakkla M-14 motorway will be Rs600. For national highways, cars will pay Rs60, wagons Rs100, buses Rs200, 2-3 axle trucks Rs250, and large trucks Rs500.

نیشنل ہائی وے اتھارٹی (NHA) نے قومی شاہراہوں اور موٹر ویز کے لیے ٹول ٹیکس میں اضافے کا اعلان کیا ہے، جو کہ 5 جنوری 2025 سے لاگو ہوگا۔

لاہور کو عبدالحکیم سے ملانے والی M-3 موٹر وے پر کاروں کا کرایہ 650 روپے سے بڑھ کر 700 روپے ہو جائے گا، جبکہ M-4 موٹروے پنڈی بھٹیاں سے فیصل آباد اور ملتان تک 850 روپے سے بڑھ کر 950 روپے ہو جائے گی۔

ملتان سے سکھر تک چلنے والی M-5 موٹروے کاروں کے لیے 1050 روپے سے بڑھ کر 1100 روپے وصول کرے گی۔ ڈیرہ اسماعیل خان سے ہکلہ M-14 موٹروے پر گاڑیوں کا ٹول ٹیکس 600 روپے ہوگا۔

قومی شاہراہوں کے لیے کاریں 60 روپے، ویگنیں 100 روپے، بسیں 200 روپے، 2-3 ایکسل ٹرک 250 روپے اور بڑے ٹرک 500 روپے ادا کریں گے۔

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has announced plans to activate Boeing 777 and Airbus aircraft within the next six months, boosting its operational fleet to 24 aircraft. Currently, PIA has 34 aircraft in total, with only 16 operational.

However, the airline's team has quickly activated three additional planes, including a Boeing 777, an Airbus 320, and an ATR, increasing the active fleet to 19. The Boeing 777 will be deployed for European air operations, and preparations for the 2025 Hajj operations are in full swing.

CEO Khurram Mushtaq aims to activate all 34 aircraft by the end of the year, significantly increasing PIA's revenue. Additionally, a 25% salary hike has been approved for employees, and a new Airbus 320 is already in service for commercial flights.

Stanford University has developed an innovative technology that allows solar panels to generate electricity at night using radiative cooling.

This breakthrough harnesses the natural process where heat dissipates from Earth's surface on clear nights, allowing solar panels equipped with thermoelectric generators to capture this energy and produce power.

While the output is modest-about 50 milliwatts per square meter-this technology can still power low-energy devices like LEDs and sensors, offering a significant advantage for off-grid areas.

It could also reduce reliance on polluting batteries. As the technology improves, nighttime solar panels could complement traditional solar power, making renewable energy more reliable and accessible in regions with limited sunlight.

The Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) has announced multiple sit-ins in Karachi in response to the ongoing protests by the Majlis-e-Wahdatul-Muslimeen (MWM).

ASWJ leaders issued a 24-hour ultimatum to the Sindh government, threatening sit-ins at 60 locations across the city if their demands are not met.

The planned protests will begin at 3:00 pm tomorrow at various spots, including Liaquatabad, Nazimabad, Sohrab Goth, and Sharah-e-Faisal. Meanwhile, MWM protests over the Kurram issue have already been causing traffic disruptions for the past week.

Karachi residents are facing severe traffic jams, while provincial authorities have warned protesters about strict actions.

اہل سنت والجماعت (اے ایس ڈبلیو جے) نے مجلس وحدت المسلمین (ایم ڈبلیو ایم) کے جاری احتجاج کے جواب میں کراچی میں متعدد دھرنوں کا اعلان کیا ہے۔

Fateh Jang: 10 people were killed in an accident involving a passenger bus near Fateh Jang on Motorway M14.

According to a Motorway Police spokesperson, a bus accident occurred near Fateh Jang on Motorway M14, resulting in the deaths of 10 people and injuries to 7 others.

According to the spokesperson, the bus was going from Bahawalpur to Islamabad when the driver's negligence led to the accident.

Motorway Police further said that the bodies of the deceased and the injured have been shifted to THQ Hospital Fateh Jang and further investigations into the incident are being conducted.

As many as 179 people have died and two people were rescued from a plane carrying 181 people that crashed at the Muan International Airport in South Korea on Sunday, the Yonhap news agency reported, citing rescue authorities.

South Korea's acting President Choi Sang-mok, in an emergency meeting on Sunday evening, declared a national mourning period until January 4 over the plane crash.

"Of the 179 dead, 65 have been identified," the fire agency said of the crash, which two members of the crew survived.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will undergo prostate removal surgery on Sunday after he was diagnosed with a urinary tract infection, his office said.

The 75-year-old leader underwent a test at Hadassah Hospital on Wednesday, where he was "diagnosed with a urinary tract infection resulting from a benign prostate enlargement," the prime minister's office said in a statement.

"As a result, the prime minister will undergo prostate removal surgery tomorrow," it said.

اسرائیلی وزیر اعظم بنجمن نیتن یاہو کے دفتر نے بتایا کہ وہ پیشاب کی نالی میں انفیکشن کی تشخیص کے بعد اتوار کو پروسٹیٹ ہٹانے کی سرجری کرائیں گے۔

The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) is set to begin its largest underground rainwater storage tank project in Tajpura, with an estimated cost of Rs. 903.725 million.

According to WASA Managing Director Ghafran Ahmed, Tajpura has been a longstanding problem area for the agency, prone to urban flooding and water accumulation during monsoons due to inadequate drainage systems and local depressions.

While alternative solutions like sewage pumping stations and roadside drains were considered, the significant investment and time required made them less viable.

The Lahore Zoo has been privatized, with a contract awarded to a private company for Rs 500 million, covering various services such as parking and entry tickets. The zoo's entry ticket is priced at Rs 100, with additional charges for other attractions such as the snake house (Rs 200), walk-through aviary (Rs 100), and holo-verse experience (Rs 300).
