🚨🚨 BREAKING NEWS - MISSILE STRIKE ON UNITED STATES AIRBASE IN IRAQ 🚨🚨
🇺🇸 🇺🇸 United States - Iran Relations 🇮🇷🇮🇷
[March 12th, 2022
1945 EST / 0345 Baghdad]
The Erbil International Airport, specifically the U.S. military section of the airfield (along with the U.S. Consulate), has come under attack by multiple Fatah-110 SRBMs (Short-Range Ballistic-Missiles) - early reports suggest that all missiles directly hit the area, and that there were at least three missiles in total (from the images below.) The strike occurred roughly two hours ago, at 0145 Baghdad, and early statements from the Pentagon have indicated that no U.S. casualties have been reported yet - however, the situation is still being assessed.
There have been unconfirmed reports from sources in Iran, that the strikes were in response to the deaths of two “senior Iranian officials” in Syria from an Israeli air strike.
The Fatah-110 (image below) is capable of carrying a 650kg (1,433lb) conventional explosive warhead, which is more than capable of inflicting serious casualties, as well as damage to runways and buildings. The Fatah-110 is produced by Iran and the only other known operator is Syria, which clearly marks this as an Iranian-executed attack.
The Ebril International Airport itself has the eighth largest runway in the world, coming in at 4,800 meters (15,748 feet.) It is located in the Iraqi Kurdistan region and is one of only two international hubs in Iraq. It should be noted that the airport was also attacked on July 6th, 2021 - that attack consisted of multiple drone and rocket strikes, which now pales in comparison to the SRBM strikes tonight.
