BREAKING NEWS:Order deployment of troops to Borgu, emir begs Buhari

The Emir of Borgu, Niger State, Muhammad Dantoro, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to order the deployment of troops to Borgu, to check the activities of kidnappers and criminal elements.

Reacting to the news on the kidnapping of the Dodo of Wawa, Dr. Mahmoud Ahmed in Borgu, he said that the call became necessary because the vast Borgu forest is the nucleus of the famous Kainji Lake National Park.

”This is an urgent appeal and call for immediate deployment of the military both on the air and ground to root out these insurgents,” he said.

The monarch, however denied media reports, saying he was kidnapped by the insurgents, noting that he was safe and healthy.

” I have been receiving calls from Nigerians far and wide who wanted to confirm if I was safe. Yes I am safe. I was not the victim but the district head of Wawa community in my kingdom.
“Also, the district head of Dekara was kidnapped about four months ago and has not been found.

“I am saddened over the development and request that the military respond and comb the forest of the Kainji Lake National Park and rescue the district heads and other victims held in the heart of the large expanse of the pristine forest ecosystem.

BREAKING NEWS:Why I can’t fall in love in BBNaija house – Liquorose

Big Brother Naija Shine Ya Eye housemate, Liquorose, has stated that she can’t fall in love on the show because it may not be real.

She said this to some housemates on Sunday night after the live eviction show, as they all talked about relationships in the house.

Liquorose pointed out that she can’t fall in love in the house because it’s an enclosed place and may not be real love.

“I don’t know about anybody but I can’t fall in love in this house. Yes, because it’s not real,” Liquorose said.

Angel retorted, “It is real because it may be real from your part but you’re not sure if it’s genuine from the other person’s part.”
Liquorose still insisted that, even if there’s a connection, it may wear off after the show is over.
She asked, “How are you sure that that connection is real? It’s because of these closed doors. That infatuation will wear off.
Her revelation came as a shock to Queen and Whitemoney because the 26-year-old dancer made her revelation in front of her love interest, Emmanuel.

Since the show began, Liquorose and Emmanuel have been really close as they sleep on the same bed and do practically everything together, though she’s two years older than he is. Fans have also given them the nickname,’Emmarose’.

BREAKING NEWS:Why North-Central can’t produce Nigeria’s President in 2023 –Senator Alex Kadiri

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Senator Alex Kadiri has urged party members from the North Central Zone to concentrate on securing the National Chairmanship of the APC instead of dissipating energy in seeking for the presidency in 2023.

The ex-lawmaker who represented Kogi East from 1999 to 2003 in the Senate said this in an interview with Journalists in Abuja, on Sunday.

Kadiri said, “I am a recognized leader in the North- Central. They invite me to all their meetings. There is nobody of substance who has the capacity to be President from North Central in 2023. Please, prove me wrong and bring that person. At my age, I am not looking for anything from anybody. I am not looking for work. I can only speak my mind now.”

He equally made a case for a President of Southern extraction as successor for the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.).

The former federal lawmaker said, “Olusegun Obasanjo was President of Nigeria for eight years. Now Yemi Osinbajo is Vice President and in 2023, he would have spent eight years. I think for the sake of fairness, it is only right and proper for the people of the South-West to shelve the idea of producing the President.

“North-West should also forget it. The South-Easterners are my in-laws and there are more Igbos coming to this house than any other tribe in Nigeria because of my wife.

“So, I cannot have ill feelings towards an Igbo man. The fact of the matter is that Igbos with their republican attitude to everything can’t be President of Nigeria this present time (2023).
“Whether you like it or not, Rotimi Amaechi still stands as a viable person. He has the experience, and good health. Anybody we are considering today as President must be healthy. We can’t move from Yar’ Adua (Umaru) to Buhari (Muhammadu) and then to Tinubu (Bola). If Amaechi and Zulum can put their acts together, this country can move forward.”

BREAKING NEWS:Military officer plants drug in brother’s house, reports to NDLEA

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have arrested a military officer, Anayo Nwamban, for allegedly plotting to implicate his brother.

A spokesperson for the NDLEA, Femi Babafemi, in a statement on Sunday, said Nwamban, after planting a drug in his brother’s house, reported him to the agency.

However, the truth came to light after the drug supplier was arrested.

Babafemi said, “In Ebonyi State, a military officer, Anayo Nwamban, who bought 1.1 kilogrammes of cannabis from Mami market, planted same in his elder brother’s house and then made a report to the NDLEA office with a view to implicating his brother, was arrested on Friday, September 3. After the arrest of his supplier, he admitted to purchasing and planting same in his brother’s house.”

The official said the agency also arrested a 22-year-old member of the National Youth Service Corps, Arnold Maniru, for allegedly importing four kilogrammes of drugged candies from the United Kingdom.

“The youth corps member serving with a government agency in Abuja was arrested on Saturday, August 28, 2021, following the interception of a consignment at the warehouse of a transport company.

“A controlled delivery of the parcel, which contains the candies laced with Arizona, a strong variant of cannabis and some liquid, was subsequently carried out,” he added.
In a related development, operatives attached to courier companies in Lagos reportedly intercepted 1.2kg of cannabis concealed inside locally-made cookies going to Dubai, UAE and 920grams of co***ne hidden inside synthetic hair heading for Saudi Arabia.
Another 1.08kg cannabis concealed in spray cans going to Pakistan and 625g of methamphetamine hidden in clothing heading to Australia were also reportedly seized.

The statement said, “Across the states, operatives also intensified arrests of traffickers and seizures of illicit drugs. A total of 384.7kg of assorted narcotics being transported to the nation’s capital, Abuja, for sale were intercepted and seized at patrol points in Lokoja, Kogi State, on Monday, August 20, and Thursday, September 2, 2021.

“A truck, with number plate, Plateau AA 462 QAP, driven by 50-year-old Danlami Dodo, coming from Onitsha, Anambra, with Abuja, FCT as destination, was intercepted at a patrol point in Lokoja.

*Upon a search, the following psychoactive substances were discovered packed in sacks and cartons: 1,975 bottles of cough syrup with codeine, weighing 282kg; 199 packets of Exol-5 tablets weighing 75.4kg; 250 packets of Diazepam tablets weighing 15.4kg; Cannabis Sativa weighing 5.9kg; and one packet of Ketamine injection, all weighing 378.7kg.”

The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohammed Marwa (retd.), commended the commanders, officers and men of the agency for maintaining the heat on drug traffickers and dealers in the country.

BREAKING NEWS:Storage limits for s***m, eggs, embryos in UK increased to 55 years

Storage limits for eggs, s***m, and embryos would be increased to a maximum of 55 years as British Government plans to give people greater choices over when to start a family.

Under the proposals announced by Health Secretary Sajid Javid on Monday, prospective parents would be given the option to keep or dispose of frozen reproductive cells or embryos at 10-year intervals. The existing storage limit is 10 years.

Doctors had argued that the current limit after which prospective parents must decide whether to undergo fertility treatment or have the cells destroyed was too restrictive.

Research from the Royal College of Obstetricians has suggested that frozen eggs can be stored indefinitely without deterioration, thanks to a modern freezing technique.

Javid said, “The current storage arrangements can be severely restrictive for those making the important decision about when to start a family, and this new legislation will help turn off the ticking clock in the back of people’s minds.
“Technological breakthroughs included in egg freezing have changed the equation in recent years and it’s only right that this progress puts more power into the hands of potential parents.

“By making these changes, we are going to take a huge step forward, not just for giving people greater freedom over their fertilities, but for equality too.’’

The proposals, which followed a public consultation launched last year, would need approval by Parliament.

Additional conditions would apply around third-party donors and posthumous use, with the health department saying it would be “inappropriate’’ for the limit to apply in all cases.

British Fertility Society chai, Dr Raj Mathur welcomed the plans saying, “This change ensures that UK regulation is compliant with the scientific evidence about the safety of storage, and protects the ability of all our patients to make reproductive choices for themselves as individuals and couples.

BREAKING NEWS:COVID-19 loans: CBN receives eight million applications, disburses N400bn.

The Central Bank of Nigeria has disclosed that it has received over eight million applications from Nigerians for its COVID-19 Targeted Credit Facility to help households and businesses.

CBN’s Director, Corporate Communications Department, Mr Osita Nwanisiobi, disclosed this on Saturday, while fielding questions from journalists in Enugu during a one-day interactive enlightenment session with organised labour and civil society groups on the five-year policy thrust of the CBN.

Nwanisiobi, who said that CBN would not rest on its oars as the TCF had helped Nigerians exit recession and post the current Gross Domestic Product growth rate of 5.01 per cent.

He added that over 600,000 applicants had benefited from the various COVID-19-induced interventions so far.

Nwanisiobi faulted claims that residents of Enugu State didn’t receive the CBN credit facilities.

He said, “That would not be true. If you tell me that there are people who still need COVID-19 facility and who have not received it; honestly, I will agree with you.”

He said, “We started with about N50bn. We moved to N100bn, to N300bn; today; we are talking about N400bn. Now, the number of applications that we have is over eight million applications and we have done over 600,000.

BREAKING NEWS:Telecos to pay N200,000 for failing to verify NIN – NCC

The Nigerian Communications Commission has proposed a fine of N200,000 for mobile communications services providers that fail to verify and validate biometric, National Identity Number and other personal information of each subscriber to their services.

This was contained in a proposed draft regulation on registration of telephone subscribers 2020 recently published on NCC’s website.
The draft document read, “A licensee who fails to verify and validate biometric, NIN and other personal information before activation is liable to a penalty of N200, 000 for each subscription medium in breach of these requirements.”

According to the regulation, mobile services providers that allow subscribers to make and receive calls, send and receive short message services and other range of services usually provided by such operators without first verifying the subscribers’ personal information, including NIN, will be fined per subscription medium.

BREAKING NEWS:South Africa's Jailed Former President, Zuma To Serve Remaining Sentence On 'Medical Parole'.

South Africa's former president Jacob Zuma, jailed in July for contempt of court after snubbing graft investigators, was on Sunday granted medical parole, prison authorities announced.
Zuma has been hospitalised since August 6, at a health facility outside the prison where he was incarcerated for ignoring a court order to testify before a judicial panel probing corruption during his nine-year tenure which lasted until 2018, NDTV reports.

"The Department of Correctional Services (DCS) is able to confirm that Mr Jacob Gedleyihlekisa Zuma has been placed on medical parole," it said in a statement.

The parole is effective Sunday and he will serve out the rest of the 15-month jail sentence outside jail.

"Medical parole placement for Mr Zuma means that he will complete the remainder of the sentence in the system of community corrections, whereby he must comply with specific set of conditions and will be subjected to supervision until his sentence expires," it said.

The decision to accord him parole was compelled "by a medical report" the department received, it said.

The 79-year-old was admitted to hospital for observation on August 6 for an undisclosed condition, and underwent a surgical procedure on August 14.

He remains hospitalised.

His long-running corruption trial over an arms deal dating back more than two decades was last month postponed to September 9, pending a medical report on his fitness to stand trial.

BREAKING NEWS:A man in Gombe state has threatened to commit su***de by falling from a telecommunications mast if a woman is not married to him by his parent.
The man was said to have climbed the telecommunications mast in the central area of Gombe city in the early hours of Sunday, in protest at living as a bachelor despite being an adult.
An eyewitness said the young man may have been suffering from depression.
He said in Hausa, "For over three hours now, the young man has been up there insisting that he would commit su***de except his father takes a bride for him.
"Right now I can confirm that operatives from the Fire Service, the police, and Civil Defence Corps have been appealing to him to come down.

"As you may see from the picture, a man has climbed up to plead with him and from all indications, there's hope that he is likely to comply.
"We're told by someone who claims to be from the same neighborhood with him that he's suffering from depression.
"He said the young man got digressed when his father died a few years ago."
When asked whether operatives provided cushioning materials for the young man to land safely in case he falls, the narrator said there was nothing to suggest such was provided.
