Jane Russell, born Ernestine Jane Geraldine Russell (June 21, 1921-February 28, 2011)

She was probably known best for the film Gentlemen prefer Blondes (1953, with Marilyn Monroe). Her career began in 1940, when Howard Hughes signed her under contract. Jane first caught the attention of audiences in The Outlaw (1943), which helped to display her voluptuous figure (She was almost as famous for her measurements as her work). Russell moved from the Midwest to California, where she had her first film role in 1943 in The Outlaw. In 1947, Russell delved into music before returning to films. After starring in multiple films in the 1950s, Russell again returned to music while completing several other films in the 1960s. She starred in more than 20 films throughout her career. Russell married three times, adopted three children, and in 1955 founded Waif, the first international adoption program. She received several accolades for her achievements in films, including having her hand- and footprints immortalized in the forecourt of Grauman's Chinese Theater, and having a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. She died at her home of a respiratory-related illness on February 28, 2011, age 89.

RuPaul moved to Atlanta, Georgia at the age of 15, where he worked at the Plaza Theatre while pursuing his passions as a musician and filmmaker. Throughout the 1980s, he made his television debut on The American Music Show and produced low-budget films and albums. His first taste of fame came with a cameo in The B-52’s music video for “Love Shack.” In the 1990s, RuPaul performed at numerous nightclubs in Atlanta and New York, eventually releasing his debut music album in 1992. His breakout hit, “Supermodel (You Better Work),” propelled him to unexpected fame, solidifying his campy persona. RuPaul’s subsequent singles further cemented his status. In 1994, he landed a role in Spike Lee’s film “Crooklyn,” which screens today at 6:00 pm!

Welcome To The World Of Atlanta Vs. Los Angeles

Highlights

Los Angeles is 59% more densely populated than Atlanta. People are 41.7% more likely to be married in Los Angeles. The Median Age is 1.7 years older in Los Angeles.

Well given they are roughly 1903 miles from one another on opposite ends of the country, one is palm draped and sits on the ocean while the other sits atop a ridge south of the Chattahoochee River, one has an MSA pop of 5,290,078 and the other 12,828,837, I think its safe to say the similarities are minimal at best. Both have large freeways, but LA's are MUCH busier any given time of day/week as you'd expect them to be. Culture wise, no. Outside of the skaters that occasionally float by from time to time, I don't see it! With that said I like Atlanta as is, a southern city in a bit of a transition much like the other big 4 metros. Some things are intangible IMO, like the beach culture vibe that exists in both LA and Miami that I don't sense here no matter how many pairs of shorts and flip flops I see during the summer. In appearance, Atlanta doesn't remind me anything of LA. Many MANY more Latinos in LA than here, and architecturally they are polar opposites IMO.
