He went missing during the search for Walter Smith and was found dead six months later, hanging high in a tree.

In the summer of 1975, Walter Smith was 18 years old. He had just finished his freshman year at West Virginia University studying forestry. He was working a summer job at Watoga State Park and would often ride his bicycle on the scenic roads around the park. One day in early June, he disappeared. After a week of searching he was found murdered, buried in a cave.
