—We are asking our community for help identifying these two individuals. On November 3, 2024, they entered the Target store in the Irvine Marketplace and filled a shopping cart with an electric scooter and a hamper full of miscellaneous clothing. Shortly after, they exited through a door at the rear of the store and pushed the cart full of stolen merchandise to their awaiting U-Haul truck. Major accident claims the live of the driver and sends 3 children to the hospital as Trauma patients with major injuries. This all happened at Wagon Wheel Sports Park in the parking lot outside around 6pm tonight (30901 OSO prky). It’s unknown how the vehicle ended up under the back of the work truck in a parking lot, and debris out in the roadway a good distance from the crash site. are currently investigating the crash. No other details currently available due to an active investigation.

It’s been a minute, but our deputies haven’t missed a beat! 🚔 Last Wednesday, January 22, they conducted a high-risk traffic stop near El Toro and Raymond, recovering a stolen U-Haul and arresting the driver.

As the debate about immigration and local law enforcement’s role has increased with the new presidential administration, I have been asked by members of the media and the community to clarify the Orange County Sheriff’s Department’s role in immigration enforcement and whether our current practices will change.

Securing the border and enforcing immigration law are important responsibilities of the federal government. The Orange County Sheriff’s Department does not enforce federal immigration law. It is not part of our primary mission, and we remain focused on violations of state and local laws.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Department will provide for your safety and respond to your calls for service regardless of your immigration status. We do not, and never will, ask the immigration status of victims, witnesses, suspects or those who call to report crimes. We enforce state and local laws equally, without bias, and without concern for your citizenship. That has not and will not change.

The crisis at our southern border has put our nation at risk. I have been a strong advocate for changes in policy and increased federal resources to address this threat. As the federal government fulfills this responsibility, it is important that local peace officers remain focused on the enforcement of state and local law.

California state law hinders our ability to fully communicate with federal law enforcement partners on shared threats posed by criminal offenders who are in violation of immigration law. Sheriffs are limited under California Senate Bill 54 to only communicate with ICE regarding the release of criminal offenders from our custody facilities under very limited circumstances. I have chosen to cooperate with ICE to the fullest extent provided by the law in order to prevent serious offenders from returning to the communities they have preyed upon.

You are safe to contact the Orange County Sheriff’s Department when you need help. We will remain vigilant in protecting our communities and providing public safety services for all residents of Orange County.

With sadness, we have all seen the devastation and catastrophic events occurring in Los Angeles this past week. Please use this as a reminder that wildfires can strike suddenly and without warning. Familiarizing yourself with the City of Dana Point's evacuation plan will help better prepare our residents, should we ever be faced with a natural disaster.

responded to a vegetation fire at Vintage Park in the city of Lake Forest just after 4:30pm today. With red flag warnings in place OCFA firefighters were prepared for this situation. A quick response by firefighters who were able to hold the fire at roughly a quarter acre. OCFA investigators are currently on scene to determine the cause. It’s important during these high winds to stay extra vigilant, see something say something. Thank You for always allowing media access.

Small 5x5 spot fire. deputies put the fire out and have 1 person of interest detained. firefighters checked for hot spots and will remain in the area for a while to mop up. OCFA investigators are in route. Great work and shoutout to Deputies. 💙💙🤙🤙
