“And, I got fiveeeee days of mc omg!!” is something I wish I can say to my boss 💀 hehehe. But working with non-profit partners on impact-driven projects really struck a passion within me to really immerse myself in the work that I do (don’t worry, I get to rest when I need to).

If you’re a creative mind who has the passion and drive to push and help impact driven/non profits in increasing their outreach, check the link in the bio for internship opportunities and project-based roles!

(Disclaimer: I find the 5 days mc girl iconic ok she was a turning point in my life ok this post is not meant to make fun of her or anything hor I am her fan)

In a world where vegetables are often confined to coleslaw, side salads, and Western recipes, we’re left to wonder how these vibrant ingredients gave been sidelined in the Singaporean diet. In this Atap Assembly, we gather to unravel this culinary riddle and shed light on the essential role of vegetable-based cuisine in the rich tapestry of asian cooking.

We're thrilled to introduce Pamelia Chia () , the celebrated author of “Wet Market to Table” and "Plantasia: A Vegetarian Cookbook Through Asia," who will share her odyssey in creating her latest book and her vision for a transformative shift in our food culture, one that truly values the abundance of a plant-based diet. Joining this Atap Assembly is also Azfar Maswan ( ), chef and culinary creator who will guide us through the fascinating world of Nusantara cuisine, highlighting the historical significance of vegetables in this vibrant culinary tradition.

As a delightful bonus, Azfar will be treating us to a live demonstration of a much-beloved Nusantara dish, "Nasi Pecel", a dish of Javanese origins packed with flavours for us to savour and learn to make in the comfort of our home.

Food and drinks will be provided at the event!

(You will also have the opportunity to purchase Pamelia’s latest book Plantasia and a special designed totebag! Just indicate your interest in our peatix ticketing page)

For many of us, ghostly tales served as a means to rationalise and communicate our deepest fears. However, do these narratives merely twist the perception of the individuals and locations they revolve around, or do they actively shape and delineate our perspectives on the world that surrounds us?

Join us on Friday the 13th for a ghostly affair with Adeline Kueh and Alfian Saat as we jump into the entangled socio-historical, linguistic, and cultural contexts of regional horror stories, offering a deeper insight into the way we incorporate our fears, desires, anxieties, and fantasies into our societal narratives.

The fate of our world could seem like a very lonely and distressing one. One that may be hard for us to picture in a positive light. While countless problems are looming in our ecosystem, from climate change and political warfare to the livability of cities, we are here today to pose a challenge to you, our concerned citizen of the planet who is not afraid of change – what if we were to imagine this future together, seeing it through a trippy lens of hope, albeit all the uncertainty?

In the next Atap Assembly session, titled Our Future Re-imagined, we have two speakers from the regenerative field – Sarah Ichioka and Shireen Marican from Desire Lines – to share about the current worldviews and the relationship between culture and economy. As part of the discussion, we'd like to extend the conversation with you to discuss further how we can leverage our unique cultural traditions and community practices for a more regenerative and just future.

By taking the first step to envision our futures, we hope to make a sizeable impact on our world. Because we believe the act of imagining something can be the first step in making it real.

In a collaboration with , this Atap Assembly, we are delving into the deep-rooted connections between plants and our cultural identity, where we spotlight the significance of plants like the betel leaf, pandan leaf and others that can be found on Singapore's Southern islands.

Discover the Betel Leaf, a plant revered for centuries across many Asian cultures for its ceremonial and medicinal uses. Faris Joraimi shares more about the rituals and customs associated with betel leaf chewing and explores its representation in ancient folklore and traditional ceremonies.

Explore the Pandan Leaf, a botanical gem that exudes an intoxicating aroma and is deeply ingrained in the culinary traditions of various cultures. While it is widely used in many pandan-infused delicacies, Hafiz Rashid delves into the artistic realm of skilled craftsmen and intricate weaving techniques used to create traditional tikar mengkuang (woven mats) and more.

Firdaus Sani navigates us through stories, folklore, and ancestral anecdotes related to plants found on the Southern islands that were used for medicinal and spiritual practices, from plants that were foraged for food to the ones used to cure ailments like haemorrhoids.

On 15 July 2023, we'd like to engage with you in an insightful discussion on the role of plants in heritage and cultural preservation. Join us on a botanical journey where horticulture, history, and culture intertwine.
