Chipmunks are a common site in the campground! 🐿
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
According to National Geographic there are 25 species of chipmunks, 24 of which can be found in North America. Their average lifespan is between 2-3 years.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Did you know that a chipmunk can collect up to 165 acorns in a single day? Within the span of two days they can collect enough food to last the full winter (although they do tend to hoard more than they need)!

Everything tastes better when you eat it outside - which makes good camping eats even better. 🔥 We whipped up this stir fry for a quick, filling meal on our Labour Day camping trip this past September. ⛺️

It’s FRIDAY!!!! 🎉 Before you hit the road to get 🔥 Always remember to be fueled up for your car ride. ⛽️Fill that gas tank, get yourself some water 💧 and snacks 🥨, plus your coffee or tea ☕️ ! And don’t forget to use the washroom before you leave! 🚽

Only an hour and a half drive from Chicago’s downtown, Starved Rock State Park is a great place to camp or visit for day hiking!

The canyon walls make it feel like you’re stepping back in time. When we visited in late July during this very dry year, the waterfalls weren’t present, but it was stunning nonetheless. Gives us a reason to back, too!

The Campfire Committee took another extended weekend trip - visiting
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Located minutes outside of Huntsville, this park has got something for everyone. There are sandy beaches on the small, motor boat free Arrowhead Lake with canoe, kayak and paddle board rentals as well as rivers, waterfalls and trails to explore.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We had two dogs with us on this trip so we spent a considerable amount of time at the pet exercise area (which is a real gem!!)
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
One of the things that makes a park great for us is when we couldn’t get to everything in one trip, meaning, we’ll be back again!!

On almost every camping trip has ever organized, she brings pulled pork. This make ahead camping staple can be portioned out and frozen for super easy meals on the site. We’re way past just having pulled pork sandwiches (usually with a quick slaw) and now include many other favourites in the rotation like quesadillas, nachos, tacos, breakfast burritos, quick eggs Benny and more. Swap for pulled chicken, Turkey, beef, or even jack fruit and put that sh*t on everything. Hot sauce served on the side.

Shade is important for your pet while camping! 🌤Host recently bought this cot and canopy combo which makes a great spot for while we’re on the site or enjoying the sun. 🏖She loves her little cave (but you better believe she still shares Steph’s bed at night!)

Another example of the ⚡️”power of the pit stop”⚡️ from a 🇨🇦Canadian camping road trip from Toronto, ON ➡️ Victoria, BC in the summer of 2000. After long days in the car, sometimes you just need get out, stretch your legs and explore some attractions along the way. 🔍

The 100m cliffs of Mazinaw Rock stretch across 1.5km of Mazinaw Lake. 🪨 Our walk-in campsite gave us the most incredible waterfront view of the rock 🥾⛺️ It may have taken some effort to get to the site, but it was well worth it! From the sun rising over the top and enjoying our morning coffee while watching (registered) rock climbers scale the cliffs, 🧗‍♂️to the golden hour light illuminating its dynamic beauty 💛 - we loved every moment!
