Confirmed. Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson. I can't wait to show my brown-skinned daughter with locs that someone who looks like her will sit on the Supreme Court of the United States. For first time ever.

President Joe Biden has selected Ketanji Brown Jackson as his nominee to the Supreme Court, according to a source who has been notified about the decision, setting in motion a historic confirmation process for the first Black woman to sit on the highest court in the nation.
Everyone can’t see your vision.
And that’s okay.
Keep going!
When someone tells you, you can’t (or shouldn’t)… Do it anyway! Every. Single. Time!
and were told “oh that is such a bad idea” when presenting their business idea on Shark Tank. What did they do? Kept going!

“I found that every time I asked for permission the answer tended to be no, so I had to make my own yeses.”
Wishing Issa Rae a Happy Birthday!
Make someone else’s day.

Excuse the language but let’s be real. What are you not doing because you don’t think you can?
Happy New Year!🚨 New Blog Post!
Some advice I would give my younger self is to be okay with letting go of broken things. It's okay to be unsure and not exactly know where life leads next. We often put so much pressure on ourselves, like every decision we make is life or death, success or failure. Some decisions make a bigger impact on our lives than others, but generally, life may look different than you expected but, in the end, you'll be just fine.
You have to believe that.

A few years ago, my mother bought me a pre-lit Christmas tree. I reluctantly accepted it because I already had one and that's one of the ways she expresses her love for me. It was cumbersome to put together. The tree had three sections and each one had about four plugs and by the end it looked like....

What do you think about forming new friendships? Are you “no new friends” or open to new relationships?
“No New Friends”?: Making Space for Growing Relationships
There is a saying “no new friends”, which is often stated when we are being asked to allow new people into our circles. As Black Women, permitting people into our space involves a greater level of trust than some, in that we are making the decision to be vulnerable when our vulnerability has been weaponized against us so often.
Our vulnerability becomes defined as “angry” or “hostile” (when we are expressing our rightful frustration at our mistreatment or failure to recognize our value)
“Weak” (when we finally shed a tear, or acknowledge that we are experiencing Imposter Syndrome)
Or when we simply have our insecurities used as a device to insist that we deserve less than what we are owed
in our intimate relationships,
in our workplaces,
and in movements that only care about pieces of us
Yet, we do “need new friends”---and those friends may come repackaged in growth of previous relationships or in opening ourselves up to truly new connections
This past week, I chose to do the latter—to repackage/cultivate relationships that I have had for over 20 years.
Those that were there as I stumbled into figuring out who I was and what that even meant.
Those that saw me during heartbreak, and disappointment
& Those that witnessed my emotional and physical awkwardness as I learned to love myself
We understandably at times leave these relationships behind, because these “old friends” may insist upon reminding us of the “old us”---those mistakes, those stumbles, those moments we so want to forget
Because they are invested in not seeing our growth
Because it justifies their own difficulty or failure to do the same
When we truly can regroup and revamp these relationships into something new, is when we see that we are accepted for who we are
While being allowed to truly be the fullness of us
To go beyond the accomplishments or the impressive resumes (while still celebrating them)
And make room for those ongoing doubts about where we are in life,
what we still need to do,
and the exhaustion in getting there
We can reminisce, in a way that honors where we have been,
while also not negating how far we have come
We can laugh, but know that crying is okay, too
We can sing the most ratchet song, while not having anyone question our spirituality or faith
We can smile when we want to---but know it is not required
We can just….be
In the newness of these “New-Old” relationships
And in between it all, we can be grateful for these Black women relationships that have stood the test of time, while also changing with the Times
So, I encourage you to take the time to reconnect/foster connections with those “No-New” but “Oh-So-Changed” relationships.
You deserve them, sis.

We have not forgotten.
We're remembering today, which should have been her 28th birthday. 🕊❤
Hope you found some peace and relaxation on this self care Sunday.
Spend time with yourself 🥰
Always allow yourself to dream for yourself.
Are we sacrificing our well-being living up to the strong Black woman stereotype?
Black women typically wear multiple hats and are forced to shoulder both male and female roles and responsibilities in the household and within the community at large. They naturally assume the position as the familial matriarch.
Happy Valentines Day!
⠀
Wishing you peace and love no matter if you are celebrating alone, with girlfriends, or your significant other.
⠀
Make sure you do something nice for yourself on this selfcare Sunday!
