from Ebonie Garnett, Doula]

“We talk about the statistics all the time… but what about the solutions?”

Ebonie Garnett, founder of Born With Purpose, LLC, shares how being a doula is about more than just being an advocate for pregnant women.

She’s an advocate for black women who are facing injustices in a broken healthcare system. A system that was created without their safety in mind.

She is that safe space—and through her work and advocacy for clients—she’s helping deconstruct these unsafe systems.

This is advocacy. This is activism.

"No one organization is going to be able to do it all. [Amandla Development coordinates] and brings together other organizations, government departments, and schools to agree on what our common vision for our young people is. And in the case of Philippi, we've stated we want our kids to finish school, to be employable, and to be active citizens – they want them giving back, pouring into Philippi...
We all need to engage complexity... [and to] change the way the nonprofit world happens."

Hayley of Bits of Good Podcast hosted and chatted with another one of our Program Partners on her podcast – this time, Amandla Development. This weekend, take some time to tune into this inspiring conversation on the new ways in which Amandla is building coalitions, and making lasting change in the Philippi township of Cape Town.
