SOKOTO TALENTED BOY

On Saturday i stumbled upon this young man called Habibu, an indigene of Sokoto state residing around Filin Sukuwa, currently he is a secondary school graduate.

I was astonished to learn about his talent with regards craftsmanship and other innovations, an architect in the making that was able to perfect all these models despite having little to no technical knowledge with regards architecture or engineering and design.

When i asked if he sells some of his works he informed me that yes he does sell some of them and surprisingly all these works displayed here can be bought for less than N20k from him.

I believe young talented individuals like Habeeb need to be promoted and sponsored in order to achieve their various dreams.

Please i am bringing his case here so see if it is possible for the social media to help change his life forever.

1. Pre-Colonial Era: The region around Sokoto was historically inhabited by various ethnic groups. The city of Sokoto itself was founded in the late 18th century by a Fulani scholar and religious leader named Usman dan Fodio. He established the Sokoto Caliphate in 1804, which became one of the largest and most powerful Islamic empires in West Africa. The Caliphate extended its influence over a vast area, encompassing parts of present-day Nigeria, Niger, and Cameroon.

2. Sokoto Caliphate: Under the leadership of Usman dan Fodio and his successors, the Sokoto Caliphate thrived as a center of Islamic learning, trade, and governance. It played a significant role in spreading Islam and education across the region, and it maintained diplomatic and economic ties with neighboring empires and European powers.

3. British Colonial Rule: In the late 19th century, the British colonial forces gradually extended their control over the Sokoto Caliphate. The conquest was completed by 1903, and Sokoto became part of the British protectorate of Northern Nigeria. The city's importance as a religious and cultural center persisted, and it continued to be a hub of Islamic education and scholarship.

4. Post-Independence Era: Nigeria gained independence from British colonial rule in 1960. Sokoto State was established as one of the country's original 12 states in 1967. The city and state have since experienced modernization and development, with efforts to improve infrastructure, education, healthcare, and other sectors.

5. Cultural Significance: Sokoto remains an important center of Islamic scholarship and culture in Nigeria. The Sultan of Sokoto, who is the traditional and religious leader of Nigerian Muslims, resides in the city. The annual "Argungu Fishing Festival" held in nearby Argungu town is a famous cultural event that attracts visitors from across Nigeria and beyond.

Sokoto's history is deeply intertwined with Islamic heritage, governance, and cultural exchange. It continues to play a vital role in Nigeria's socio-cultural fabric and religious landscape.

Alhaji Shehu Kangiwa, was the first elected governor of Sokoto state holding office from October 1979 to November 1981, representing the National Party of Nigeria (NPN) in the second republic. Shehu Kangiwa’s administration was short-lived but his successes by far outweighed his short term in office. In his effort to make Sokoto state the centre of hospitality and attract tourism, he established Giginya five-star hotel within the Sokoto metropolis.

When Giginya Hotel was completed in 1981 it was the first of its kind in north-western Nigeria and among the best hotels in the country. In order to develop and promote the Argungu Fishing Festival and also make it attractive and colourful, Kangiwa established a grand fishing hotel in Argungu town. To this day, it is the only standard hotel built by any administration for the purpose of the annual grand fishing festival.

Shehu Kangiwa also established Gusau Hotels to promote the growing number of businesses in the old Zamfara region as a result of textile industries and other agricultural products coming from Bakalori Dam irrigation facilities. Shehu Kangiwa recognised the need for the development of technical education in Sokoto state. To this end, he established and equipped four technical colleges in Runjin Sambo, Durbawa, Gusau and Mafara. He also established four vocational training centres in Bunza, Ambursa, Wasagu and Tondi Yauri. It is sad to mention that none of these vocational training schools is functional today.

Shehu Kangiwa maintained a free education policy for all Sokoto state indigenes. Our primary and secondary schools were well equipped with expatriate teaching staff in some schools. Boarding schools were full of sporting events and competitions. The state government ensured students were given everything; from uniforms to textbooks.

Students were given transport fare to their various local governments during holidays. As a governor, Kangiwa was not known for throwing money on the streets for his praise singers to pick, nor was he known for junketing around the country in chartered aircraft at the expense of the state’s meagre resources. Rather, he was known for his humility, financial discipline and ability to deliver on his campaign promises

In the promotion and development of commercial activities, Kangiwa established Sokoto Investment Company and Sokoto Co-operative Bank. He also built and equipped the Sokoto State Library with updated educational resource materials. Today, both the investment company and co-operative bank are nonexistent, while the state library has been left with outdated, archaic and dilapidated infrastructures.

Sallah : Gov Aliyu Directs immediate payment of June salary to Sokoto workers

In fulfilment of his campaign promise of ensuring prompt payment of salaries , Sokoto State Governor Dr Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, FCNA, has approved the immediate payment of June salary to the State and Local Governments staff, Teachers as well as pensioners across the state.

This is contained in a statement signed by the Press Secretary to the Sokoto State Governor, Malam Abubakar Bawa.

The gesture is aimed at ensuring that civil servants across the State celebrate the forthcoming Eid-el- Kabir festivities with ease.

The Governor further reassured the workers in the State of his administration's unequivocal commitment to revive the lost glory of civil service by ensuring the welfare of the workers at all times

The Governor, therefore, called on the civil servants in the State to reciprocate the uncommon gesture by being punctual,sincere and dedicated to their work.

Alhaji Aliyu also appealed to the people of the State to continue to pray for the present administration to succeed in meeting their yearnings and aspirations.

The Executive Governor of Sokoto State, Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto PhD, has approved the constitution of a committee on the review of wasteful and unnecessary auction of Government's assets.

The committee's terms of reference is to among other things review all the wasteful and unnecessary auction of Government's assets.
