Military Tanks Anyone? We tried to catch these all the way to Alliance Ohio but we were unsuccessful. This is also the best I can get from our camera due to the suns angle this time of year.
Anyone else have luck catching military vehicles on trains?

The snow only recently started but it made for an amazing video of the Norfolk Southern train on the Fort Wayne Line. This was captured just before New galilee as it was heading West towards Chicago.

Mixed frieght pulled through the little town of East Palestine Ohio. This is the main crossing of town and about 1/2 from the derailment site.
I'm always surrpised how close the parking lot is here to the tracks.

I was surprised to find the heritage DC to AC 4005 leading not only a couple NS engines but 5 KCS (former BNSF) Locomotive. My son and I had a great time following this train. We don't often see an engine layout like this.

Exploring Horseshoe Curve in Altoona PA

The Horseshoe Curve is a three-track railroad curve on Norfolk Southern Railway's Pittsburgh Line in Blair County, Pennsylvania. The curve is roughly 2,375 feet (700 m) long and 1,300 feet (400 m) in diameter. Completed in 1854 by the Pennsylvania Railroad as a way to reduce the westbound grade to the summit of the Allegheny Mountains, it replaced the time-consuming Allegheny Portage Railroad, which was the only other route across the mountains for large vehicles. The curve was later owned and used by three Pennsylvania Railroad successors: Penn Central, Conrail, and Norfolk Southern.

Horseshoe Curve has long been a tourist attraction. A trackside observation park was completed in 1879. The park was renovated and a visitor center built in the early 1990s. The Railroaders Memorial Museum in Altoona manages the center, which has exhibits pertaining to the curve. The Horseshoe Curve was added to the National Register of Historic Places and designated as a National Historic Landmark in 1966. It became a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark in 2004.

This site last Feb was the location of Norfolk Southern's train derailment in East Palestine Ohio. Its amazing that we are coming upon a year already.

We spent a little time on the Fort Wayne line just outside of Columbiana Ohio. We enjoy this train crossing because its outside of town and has light car traffic. We didn't have a lot of time before the sun disappeared, but we got lucky and caught a few trains passing through.

Filmed on Dec 1st, 2024. We were outside Columbiana Ohio on Creek Road.

We had this Norfolk crew wave a small American flag out the window at us. My son thought that was great to see. It makes it so much more fun when you get a reaction from the crew. Awesome crew. Sorry for my fat finger.
