Building a Schionning Design 12 Meter Catamaran in your backyard.

In this episode, Bela Musits has a conversation with David Neilson, a lifelong sailor who together with his wife, is building a 12 meter catamaran from a kit. They have been building an Arrow 1201 for the past three years. They are on the home stretch and plan to have her launched this early summer. Your long-awaited dream trip to the Bahamas in your boat turned out to be all you hoped for. Now that the uneventful return trip back across the Gulf Stream has concluded, marking the end of your paradise escape, several questions arise. Should you continue living on the boat or move back to land? Where will you store the boat during hurricane season? In episode 105 of my podcast, I explore these topics in depth with Mike Malekoff. Tune in to gain valuable insights and make informed decisions about your future after this remarkable journey.

In this podcast episode, Bela Musits interviews returning guest Mike Malekoff. In previous episodes, we followed Mike's journey from Lake Champlain to the Bahamas and his return to the USA. Have you ever imagined cruising the New England coast during the summer and then leisurely traveling south in the fall to spend the winter in and around Florida? For several years, podcast guest Larry Freedman and his wife have been doing this on their power catamaran. We had a fantastic discussion about cruising the East Coast of the United States. Larry also discussed why he purchased a power catamaran and what they have learned from living the boat life. I hope you will find the conversation as interesting as I did.

Do you know what a United States Coast Guard Surfman is? Hopefully, we will never need to have a USCG Surfman come to our rescue. In this inspiring episode, I interview Chris D’Amelio, a retired USCG Surfman who drove one of the rescue boats at the most treacherous inlet in the United States, Cape Disappointment. Surfmen are the individuals who captain the rescue boats that are dispatched when someone needs assistance in or around some of the most dangerous bodies of water.
We discussed the many responsibilities of a USCG Surfman and several of the rescues that Chris participated in. Chris also wrote a book about his USCG experience titled, “Life and Death at Cape Disappointment”. It is a great read and I highly recommend it. This is a very inspiring episode, so please give it a listen.
