Don't waste our plant relatives. Use them, or feed them to our animal relatives. 🌿💜

Centuries before any English speakers ever laid eyes on this animal, the Narragansett people of Rhode Island— an Algonquian tribe— called it a “wuchak.” This indigenous name likely shared roots with a similar Cree word meaning weasel or fisher.

English speakers turned “wuchak” into “woodchuck,” leading not just to a popular tongue-twister, but a lot of misconceptions. Many people are under the impression that woodchucks chew or eat wood in a manner similar to beavers, but this isn’t accurate. A woodchuck’s diet contains mostly herbs, grasses, dandelions, clovers, and berries— no wood at all!

Settlers named Seattle named for an Indigenous chief, then systematically tried to wipe the Lushootseed language from the landscape.

The Lushootseed-speaking Duwamish people have been in the Seattle area since time immemorial. Stories, such as "North Wind, South Wind", tell of the last Ice Age, and an Ice Weir breaking over the Duwamish River.

The Duwamish first signatories on the Treaty of Point Elliott in 1855, signed by Chief siʔaɫ, who was chief of the Duwamish and Suquamish tribes.

Their longhouse today stands across the street from where their of our largest villages was located before it was burned down by settlers in 1895.

On January 4th wear your ribbon skirt, shirt, or pants to show your support for Isabella Kulak and BILL S-227 that calls to mark January 4th as National Ribbon Skirt Day.

Isabella (Cote First Nation) was shamed for wearing her ribbon skirt to her school's formal day in December 2020. Isabella received an outpouring of national support following the event including the first and second reading of a bill to mark January 4th as a national holiday to honour the ribbon skirt as a "centuries-old spiritual symbol of womanhood, identity, adaptation and survival" and "a direct connection to Mother Earth and its sacred medicines."

This is to help fund a new media source that will go beyond the tired, useless and closed dialogue from both Tribal and State entities. There is fat too much stereotype, yes, positive stereotype is destructive too. Both sides are filled with bad, closed thinking that is destructive. We will offer fr...

Why are positive stereotypes just as bad as nrgative? They box you in to a preconceived notion. If you are not the waterprotector, wacipi dancer, spirit horses and wolves floating over your head Native, they don't like you. When will people realize to just accept the individual. Some of the best people I have known are not these things. They are just themselves, in fact probably better because they are genuine, not kowtowing the "acceptible " image people want. If they will conform, that simply aren't being honest. No disrespect to those that are into those things. Just making a point that modern society is still wanting boxes they are comfortable with, not real people as individual as snow flakes. So I hope modern society gets away from this. Because the individuals are automatically disliked, not accepted if they are not these pop culture characters. Seems maybe one day we will all just be people...

Stereotyping is not just no class, ignorant and uncouthe. It can be dangerous, cause harm, cause unnecessary strife, anxiety. Whether it is negative, or the "acceptible" box they wish to keep you in. I start this group hoping to become a full on media company that works towards progress in these areas. It will help all involved, not just Natives.

I always, ALWAYS hear people complain about Natives getting all this "free money" for no reason. They really do despise Natives for it. It is not true at all. I am 53 and have yet to see, let alone receive any of this money.
This myth needs dispelled and done away with.

Trying to get this runnimg better on the start of Native American Heritage Month. Will keep working on it. So it can be a place all are welcome to share their stories, experiences with being stereotyped and it can become a clearer term and perturb this bogus norm. Freedom begins with no preconceived ideas.

There is not much worse than being marginalized automatically. To begin on the defensive, put in a box where you have to try to prove yourself. Dismissed, enclosed, stifled and locked in a box of misconceptions. Let us unite and strive to end this societal plague that does nothing but we rode progress and positive movement.

This is a new venture i am starting as sole creator. Future members will be available. Simply a social force to dispel myths, mistruth, stereotypes of Native Americans. Attempting to bring Native and their counterparts into constructive, positive, valuable dialogue. So many think we live in tipis yet, at war with the US Calvary or just plain extinct. Also that a Native must be a quiet, stoic, noble wooden cigar store Indian". We are as diverse as any, this must be addressed and I choose to persue it. Thank you
