: You probably know her from Netflix’s My Unorthodox Life, but is so much more than what you’ve seen on TV. Julia and I share a passion for helping other women—and that’s a common thread you’ll see pulled throughout today’s conversation.

She is an accomplished self made businesswoman, entrepreneur, best-selling author—with a passion to pave the way and help lift other women up along the way.

Julia was raised in an Ultra-Orthodox Jewish community. At age 42 she fled, changed her name, and without any formal education or background in fashion launched her career as a designer with her namesake shoe collection. When you listen to our conversation, you’ll hear just how scrappy she was to secure the funding to make this venture happen.

In the years that followed, she was named creative director of La Perla and would become co-owner and CEO of Elite World Group and one of the most influential people in fashion. In 2021, Julia and her NETFLIX hit series “My Unorthodox Life”, which streams in over 190 countries, took the world by storm.

Above all else, Julia applies her experience and platform to be a force for positive change in the world and supporting women who have dedicated their lives to building a better future.

I could have talked to Julia for many more hours—I cannot wait for you to meet her. Please make sure you listen wherever it is that you podcast.

: Boy do I wish that I knew five years ago. And even more so, I wish that her company, The Whisper Group, existed when I was navigating the exit of the company I sold.

Carrie Kerpen is the founder and CEO of The Whisper Group, the #1 Exit Readiness Advisory Practice for Women-Owned Businesses. You’ll hear Carrie talk all about building, selling and exiting her own business, and how she guides other women to do the same.

Prior to launching The Whisper Group, Carrie started, and scaled Likeable Media. After her own exit, Carrie researched The Exit Gap, producing an annual report on the disparities in exit values of female-led companies . She went on to build The Whisper Collective, the only community dedicated exclusively to exited female founders.

The work she’s doing is life changing for the women who are recipients of her knowledge—and I am beyond excited to have her here today. And stay tuned, you can hear the rest of our conversation on an upcoming episode of Carrie’s podcast, The Exit Whisperer.

But for now, comment CARRIE below and I’ll send you the link straight to your DMs.

: I joke often that when my kids have kids they are going to tell them that their grandma only knew how to make a stir fry for dinner. 😜But as someone who’s health concious as well, I was floored when I was introduced to , the company you’re going to hear all about in today’s episode.

Crystal Ung’s family owned a Chinese restaurant growing up.
As an adult, she wanted a way to carry on those iconic childhood flavors while also eating well— something that next-gen kids finally have the privilege to do.

Bowlcut is that way. Their sauces are made the way they’re meant to be: with the same personal care as a homemade recipe; inspired by centuries of Asian cooking that never needed the fake stuff to imitate real flavor.

As Crystal says, they represent the way she grew up: some are old favorites, some are family inspired, some are entirely new tastes born from years of flavor mixing.

Crystal started this company on her own from the ground up. She’s scrappy and passionate and it shows. She shares some incredible tips today for new business owners—you’re going to want to get out a pen and paper to take some notes.

Say hello to Ari Krzyzek! Founder of , an agency primarily working with women-led brands, helping them bring their vision and impactful ideas to life.

“Most of the time, we bridge the gap in their business by translating their brand into digital experiences on their web platforms (think ecom sites, marketing websites, and even web applications). Other times, we take their
ideas and craft a roadmap for their business success (hello brand, UX, and web strategy).”

☀️ What’s your story? How did you get where you are and why do you do what you do?

My journey began in graphic design, and I transitioned into a freelance digital designer career in 2009/2010. I was one of the web design pioneers who experienced the evolution from web 1.0 to web 2.0 and witnessed the introduction of UI/UX in digital design and marketing. I was content as a freelancer until my husband asked me to become his business partner and help build our creative and web agency, Chykalophia. How could I say no? We had just gotten married, and I loved the idea of working together with him. When I moved from Bali to Chicago in 2011, got married, and started the business with my husband that same year, I didn’t realize how powerful a community of women entrepreneurs could be. I feel so lucky to have been surrounded by them since my first year of building my business.

☀️ How do you support other female founders and women in business?

I support other female founders and women in business through a variety of initiatives and roles. As a board member for the Coleman Entrepreneurship Center at DePaul University and through Chicago Innovation, I mentor women on personal branding, career advancement, and entrepreneurship. I also create opportunities for collaboration and networking through the AceNextgen Chicago Chapter, which I helped establish to provide resources and support for Asian American entrepreneurs. Additionally, at
Chykalophia, we focus on working with women-led brands, providing them with the tools and strategies they need to succeed.

: Sometimes ONE decision, or ONE circumstance, can change the entire trajectory of your career. And that’s what happened to Palak Patel . The owner of the culinary school she was attending submitted her to the for Chopped. She didn’t want to go on the show, but not only did she appear on the show… she won.

Being on Chopped was pivotal for and her career, putting her on a stage like no other she’d ever been on before. She also had an incredible setback when the pandemic derailed her plans to open up a giant restaurant in New York’s Hudson Yards….

But today, she’s bouncing back big time.

is the author of a new plant-based cookbook called “Food Is Love: Plant-based Indian Inspired Recipes To Feel Joy and Connection,” published by HarperCollins (Harvest). A classically trained chef and restauranteur, not only is she the winner of Food Network’s famed Chopped, but she Beat Bobby Flay and was a finalist on Food Network Star season 14.

has taken her personal brand to the next level, hosting a digital series called The Diwali Menu on Food Network Digital, and has partnered with many high-profile brands like , , , Barclays, , , , and . She’s made on-camera appearances on , digital, and Good Day Atlanta and is a speaker.

You hear our host say this ALL THE TIME: Your COMMUNITY is your brand’s greatest asset. If you start to look at your audience or your followers as a COMMUNITY instead, you will see a noticeable difference in engagement, connection and ultimately in bottom line growth.

: As I walk the walk and talk the talk around here, I’m giving myself a bit of a reprieve while my kids are at camp. We’ll be back with an all new episode next week, but after I dropped off my kids at camp last week, I decided to follow the advice of today’s amazing guest, —and PYC—Protect Your Calendar.

In today’s rerun, you’ll hear esteemed parenting expert, NY Times Best selling author and psychologist, Dr. Becky Kennedy, talk all about what this means. You’ll also hear her talk about how she built one of the largest parenting empires from scratch simply by showing up and sharing.

By connecting with her community in a way that they grew to trust her and want more from her—thus driving the ability to monetize her community in the most incredible way possible.

This is a story of a FoundHer who seized the moment and took her psychology practice to the next level, and in turn has helped MILLIONS of parents across the country and around the world.

Part of the reason I wanted to share this episode is because you’re going to hear me talk in the coming weeks a lot about community—not your business community, but your brand community. And how you can turn your audience into a community, which is essentially your number one asset for your business. This is exactly what Dr. Becky Kennedy did in building her business: Good Inside.

And while I “Protect My Calendar” this week, I still wanted to give you an episode of Dear FoundHer…I knew you would enjoy.

Take a listen to today’s episode and then TUNE IN on Thursday when I share more about the importance of your brand community and how you can monetize it as you can count on me to break down simple marketing practices to build your brand, business and bottom line.

Hello to one of our Foundhers, Rebecca Gruenspan!

☀️ Becca is the founder of Consulting, a service to save hopeful parents weeks of tedious legwork and research, hold their hand through every step of the domestic adoption process, and do everything possible to help them bring their sweet baby home in less than one year.
She does this through her proprietary 4-Step Adoption Roadmap Process, with a strong dedication to education and community.

☀️ Rebecca, known to most as Becca, established RG Adoption Consulting in 2013. After living in Chicago for 22 years, Becca and her son moved to her hometown of Cleveland, Ohio, where they soon welcomed their Goldendoodle, Akela into their family. Despite grappling with infertility and misconceptions about adoption, Becca sought out an adoption consultant to help guide her journey as a single adoptive mom. Becca received a Bachelor of Science in Social Work (BSSW) at The Ohio State University and a Masters in Social Work (MSW) at The University of Illinois at Chicago, Jane Addams School of Social Work.

☀️ How did you land your first client? ☀️

Shared the launch of my business on FB and asked all my friends to help me by sharing it. Someone saw one of my sisters’ posts and shared it with her friend, who then “watched” me for a while and not only was she my first client, but then I hired her and she was one of my consultants for a few years.

: Today we’re talking about two of my favorite products, coffee and tea. And as you’ll hear in a moment, our guest has one of the loveliest accents to listen to for the next half hour as she tells us her story.

Today you’ll hear me and Jash Mehta, FoundHer of , talk about her journey from a small kitchen to thousands of retail doors nationwide...including .

Jash relocated from London to her current home in California—which was the inspiration for her and her co founder Blair Hardy to begin the journey of creating their company .

Inspired by the farm-to-table culture of California cuisine and a belief in the power of plant-based eating, they sought to apply this ethos to their most beloved daily ritual — their morning latte.

As coffee lovers who also prioritized health, the two friends asked themselves why nothing on the grocery store shelves met their standards: clean label, dairy-free, no refined sugar, and organic. Jash co-founded from a genuine desire to create quality coffee and tea beverages she wanted in her own life — and make them available to the millions of people who share in her passion for clean, healthful, high-integrity products.

More than just a beverage company, is a celebration of the self-care and indulgence found in a genuinely delicious coffee moment. Furthermore, it is a story of sisterhood and the power of friends joining together to manifest what they wish to see in the world.

Jash is not only a kick ass founder, but she’s brilliant too. She is a graduate of The London School of Economics and if that’s not enough, she is the proud mother of three young daughters and an adorable Shih Tzu pup named Paddington.

I cannot wait for you to hear this incredible story about a brand who started from scratch...literally, and has disrupted an entire beverage category.

Make sure you TUNE IN wherever it is that you podcast.

This is a story of 1️⃣ Manifesting your destiny and 2️⃣ Just going for it.

Last week, I shared a clip from one of my bucket list guests on , . MANY of you asked me how I landed that interview.

Here’s how.

When I announced to the world in October 2021, I had a list of “bucket list” guests: and . On December 13, 2022 I interviewed Bobbi Brown—and fulfilled the dream of interviewing all three of these women during the first season of Dear FoundHer...

The crazy thing is—other than having had interviewed for BCB (and leveraging that experience with her team), I didn’t have any other connections here.

So what did I do?

I put it out into the world that I wanted to interview these women.
I told everyone I knew.
I DM’d them from time to time.
I tagged them in posts.

And in the case of Bobbi Brown...that’s what worked.

Everyone assumed I had her on because of her Chicago connection. But do you want to know what really happened?

Someone asked me in my question box: Who is your next bucket list guest?

I answered: Bobbi Brown.
And I tagged her.

Well, right time, right place...Bobbi DM’d me back saying, “Sure! I’d love to come on, just DM me.”

And I did. The Monday morning after Thanksgiving I emailed her and on December 13th I was able to cross that interview off my bucket list. And boy, was it a good one.

Here are some of the (MANY) messages I received about this episode. And if you haven’t heard it yet, make sure you listen. Bobbi is a force who’s built two empires and has entrepreneurship down to a science.

Comment BOBBI and I’ll send the episode straight to your DMs.

Thank you for listening, thank you for being here,
, Host of

P.S. This story is precisely why I answered the question again over the weekend and this time tagged . Just putting it out there...

Welcome FoundHer, Jillian Bernstein, founder of The Wellness Extension.

Jillian Bernstein, CEO & Founder of The Wellness Extension, LLC, has over 20 years of experience in the human resources and consulting fields. Jillian’s professional career began in economics consulting after receiving her BS in Economics from The George Washington University. She spent a few years in litigation and pharmaceutical consulting before transitioning to HR, where she loves engaging with employees and helping them develop to their full professional potential. Jillian’s passion for bringing well-being to the workplace led her to start The Wellness Extension.

☀️ Tell us about your company and what you do.

Jillian believes organizations need to see the whole person when they show up at work, which mean investing in the team’s well-being. Through The , Jillian offers innovative and creative programs to her clients with the mission of building community and engagement among team members, all the while bringing her HR knowledge & expertise to the table.

☀️ At what point did you make your company a full time gig? How did you know the time was right?

I am still working towards that goal - and hopeful by year-end of 2024. I have already reduced my hours to 32 hours/week at my full-time day-to-day job, in the hopes of slowly winding down while being ready to go full force...I often tell staff, do not quit unless you have a plan (or another job). I have a plan, and I am a bit risk averse, so a slower exit works for me, and I have come to accept that is totally OK!

: Today’s Story on Dear FoundHer is one of resilience. And if there’s any story here that defines this word, it’s that of .

Amy is the founder of , which started as a co-working space. They raised $30MM and were on track to make $20MM in revenue when the pandemic hit…and it all came crashing down.

But Amy’s back. And she’s pivoted to a membership and education platform that supports women in corporate roles who themselves want to pivot.

The Riveter is a brand that continues to fit Amy’s lifestyle, and that of so many of you.

In the middle of it all, Amy and her family had a legal battle her husband’s former employer, Amazon. One which got a lot of social media airtime. And guess what? They won.

I promise you, there is a lot to take away from today’s conversation on Dear Foundher…. Amy is one you want to learn from. She is someone you want in your corner. And I am so lucky and honored that she’s now in mine.

: Today you’re going to hear our guests, Allison Evans and Kelley Love talk about how they started their business…almost had to close their business, but then restarted their business to make it what it is today—, a company focused on human health that earned $40MM in revenue last year alone.

Today’s conversation is honest and real. Both Allison and Kelley discovered the transformative power of living in an environment free from harmful chemicals and using food as medicine when they were win college—which led to them wanting to share their experiences with anyone and everyone.

And that is WHY they started their business, Branch Basics. This WHY is a huge focus of today’s conversation—as Branch Basics is a mission driven brand…honestly, the knowledge, education and learnings they share are fist and foremost to help you live a healthier life—and because of this, they are able to sell their incredible products.

Cleaning products are really just the economic engine to pay for all the investment into Branch Basics’ mission, which is helping their employees and customers create healthier homes. Allison and Kelly spend so much time talking to people about their non-toxic mattresses, home renovation or safer pest options (things that have nothing to do with cleaning products) and they’ve been able to build an incredibly loyal and engaged community as a result.

Allison and Kelly spend a lot of time on Instagram sharing their stories, which helps customers feel connected to the brand—a connection that, in turn, inspires the team to push further along on their work.
