Are Merri-wreck Councillors pulling the wool over our eyes as to the true cost of renaming Moreland?
Just for the record, the Council has created a job position for 12 months for a Coordinator Experience Publishing to oversee the name change, with a salary of $103k-$115k:
So almost half of this year’s allocation of $250k will go towards that one position. I’m betting this cost won’t be shown in the renaming expenses. Along with the wages of other staff redeployed to the renaming, this will be hidden in other accounting line items.
Councillors have told us over and over again that it will only cost $500,000 over the next two years.
Councillor Tapinos stated on his page on the 14/12/2021:
“Fact: The costs are $500k over two years to rebrand and all the signs will be changed over when they need replacing. This will not cost millions of dollars as has been reported by some.
He reiterated this on his page on the 27/9/2022:

Shannon Brooks good governance is not scaremongering, spreading false information, and inflated costs.
The council has allocated $250k in two consecutive years - how much of that money has been spent will be documented in future reports. But I can tell you those banners are not that expensive, the design work was done in-house. The biggest cost has been consultation costs. It has been my objective to decrease expenditure to the ratepayer - that’s why the logo is not changing, that’s why most signs will only change when requiring renewal”.
Isn’t it time Councillors came clean on the true costs instead of accusing residents of, “scaremongering, spreading false information, and inflated costs”.

Once again, Riley has been proven to be a bare faced lair. Listen to his interview with Neil Mitchel at https://www.3aw.com.au/why-the-merri-bek-mayor-is-very-pleased-with-council-name-change/. When asked by Mitchell, "Did the survey allow people to say no to the change", he replied, "Yes. It did". Check out the the attached photo of the survey form and if you can see where that option was, I'll bear my ass in Fred Essy's. To add to his continuing dishonesty on the issue, it has been noted that due to the amount of negative comments about the name change, Moreland council have turned the commenting off. Just another way of silencing their residents

From today, Moreland Council officially becomes Merri-bek City Council.
Whether you agree with the name or not, you would have to say that the process for doing so has been tainted by lies, false, and misleading information being put out by a cohort of some current and ex-Councillors and the group of usual suspects who run Council from behind closed doors.
The correct words and translation are still in contention. This is something that has been brought to the attention of the Mayor, CEO and Wurundjeri, Woi, Wurrung Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Corporation and none have given a definitive answer as to its correctness.
It may come to pass that in a few years it is found to be that the words and/or translation are incorrect. I suggest Council keep all the replaced Moreland signs just in case so as to not waste more money.

Moreland Council has opened up the voting for naming the Park Close to Home at 132-134 Cardinal Road Glenroy on its Conversation Moreland page at https://conversations.moreland.vic.gov.au/
Six names have been nominated, one of which is Citadel Park. This was in recognition of the contribution that the Salvation Army made to the local community for near on 70 years. Under Council's and Geographical Names Victoria rules, this was basically the only name that is acceptable. If you are considering submitting a vote, please consider this as the most appropriate.

After Council's meeting on Wednesday the 14th of September, Councillor Conlan, rightly so, collected flak for excusing himself from participating in the minutes silence in remembrance for the passing of the Queen. At the time, Councillor Sue Bolton was in the gallery, literally filly farting around for no apparent purpose. It now comes to light that there was method in her madness. It would appear that she did this so that there would be no video recording of her abstaining from the gesture. She now acknowledges this in her Facebook post, which included the following:
"I'm going to the Abolish the Monarchy protest today. It has been very hard to listen to all the commentary over the last couple of weeks since the Queen died. Australia was created through genocide. This genocide and the true horror of it has never been acknowledged by the Queen/Royal Family or any Australian government.
The true horror of the British Empire's colonising of large parts of the world's peoples has never been acknowledged by the Queen/Royal Family.
Over the last two weeks, the Thought Police have worked overtime to make sure that there is no criticism of the Queen or the Royal Family.
When people talk about the "wonderful stability" of the Royal Family as an institution, what they really mean is an institution which is capable of being used to convince working class people to go to war against people in other countries, including against people in parts of the world that became British colonies. From the point of view of the ruling class, you need an institution that you can build up as one that you aren't allowed to be critical of to persuade you to do horrific things to other people.
That's why I didn't join in the one minute silence for the Queen at the Moreland council meeting last Wednesday night."
