Fasts are opportune times to really examine what’s been elevated in our lives. And tbh, it hurts to realize that some things haven’t just been elevated on their own but that WE’VE elevated them — unintentionally or otherwise, using our very freedom. It’s an illusion that freedom is free. The true price tag of freedom is responsibility. And for the free in Christ, our responsibility is to Him.

Freedom is a beautiful thing. But it comes with a responsibility to the Giver of it all. Life has much to offer us but God never wants any of it to be elevated above Him. He wants to be elevated in us and around us.

If we’re honest, it can be hard for us to trust God sometimes. Not because we don’t believe He’s real, but because trusting Him means giving up control and adjusting our expectations. Trust in God means trusting Him in ALL outcomes instead of just for AN outcome that we want. Even when it hurts or doesn’t go our way, He promises to be with us in it all.

Psalms‬ ‭42‬.11: “Why are you in despair, O my soul? Why have you become restless and disquieted within me? Hope in God and wait expectantly for Him, for I shall yet praise Him, The help of my countenance and my God.”

One thing about the psalmist, David: He had troubles and trials. He had epic screw-ups. He experienced depression and fear. But he always reoriented his eyes and mind back to God. He understood what his hope had to be in. He was often unsettled by present circumstances but he did not settle there.

Spiritual warfare is like a superhero and villain plot.

If the hero is too good, too powerful, the villain will attack those close to the hero. Those they love most, as a means to destroy or get them to surrender.

In the same way, spiritual warfare is not really about us. We’re just participants in it. The enemy wants to harm God by harming us, those that God loves. He wants to rob God of His glory but stopping us who bring Him glory.

We defeat the enemy by bringing God the glory 👑 through our lives each day and with each decision.
