"Nigeria's Government Faces Criticism Over Handling of Ongoing Mass Kidnappings"

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of Nigeria has dispatched troops to rescue over 250 school pupils who were kidnapped by gunmen from a school in Kaduna state.

This abduction marks one of the largest mass kidnappings in three years, highlighting the ongoing security challenges in Nigeria. The attack occurred in Kuriga school, with conflicting reports on the exact number of children abducted. Local residents reported that gunmen, referred to as bandits, attacked the school, resulting in one casualty.

President Tinubu vowed to ensure the rescue of the abducted pupils and bring the perpetrators to justice. This incident adds to the series of mass abductions targeting educational institutions in Nigeria, prompting calls for better protection of students.

Additionally, recent abductions include over 100 female internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Borno state and more than 100 pupils and teachers in Kaduna state. ABOLISH THE NIGERIAN SENATE
IT IS NOT A CRIME TO WANT TO HAVE A FUTURE
The agitation to scrap the Nigerian Senate due to the high cost of governance is long overdue. The Senate's abolition is rooted in the belief that a more cost-effective governance structure could redirect resources to crucial sectors like education, healthcare, and infrastructure.

The movement argues that the current structure is financially burdensome for the country, with the Senate being a major contributor to the overall cost. Critics point to the lack of transparency surrounding senators' salaries as a significant issue, as the details are often shrouded in secrecy.

Proponents of scrapping the Senate argue that the funds allocated to maintain the institution could be redirected towards more pressing needs, such as healthcare, education, and infrastructure. They emphasize the need for a leaner government structure that can operate more efficiently and address the socio-economic challenges facing the nation.

OUR FUTURE MATTERS, LET US TAKE IT BACK

Our grievances, our hopes, and our demands cannot remain silent any longer. It is time for us, the people of Nigeria, to come together as a united force for change.

In our hands lies the power to shape the future of our beloved nation. We cannot afford to stand by as bystanders any longer. It is up to us to take a stand, to speak out, and to demand the changes that will lead us toward a brighter, more just future.

Let our voices be heard on social media, in the streets, and in the halls of power. Let us inspire hope and unity among our fellow Nigerians. Together, we can eradicate corruption, end police brutality, reform the judiciary, and alleviate poverty. Our future matters, and it is up to us to take it back.

In the heart of Africa's most populous nation, Nigeria, there exists a collective longing for justice, equality, and a brighter future. We are a people of rich cultural diversity, resilient spirit, and a deep sense of community. Yet, we are also faced with formidable challenges that threaten our nation's progress. Corruption, police brutality, a corrupt judiciary, and pervasive poverty have plagued our society for far too long. However, there is hope – the hope that lies in our unity, our voices, and our collective will to bring about change.

NIGERIANS GO HUNGRY AS FOOD PRICES SKYROCKETS
Food inflation rose to 22.95% in March, caused by wide-ranging price increases across items such as cereals, yam, meat, fish and fruits. Those soaring costs have been in part blamed on a worsening conflict between farmers and herders in Nigeria’s agriculture belt that Buhari has struggled to quash.

IS BOKO HARAM LEADER ABUBAKAR SHEKAU DEAD THIS TIME?
The Nigerian military says its investigating claims that Abubakar Shekau, the Boko Haram leader who orchestrated mass kidnappings of schoolchildren during his decade-long war against Western influence, has died in northeast Nigeria.

This time, however, the reports have more credibility. The story is that ISWA fighters tracked down Shekau, killed his fighters, and then demanded that he swear allegiance to Abu Musab al-Barnawi, the head of ISWA.

After a fruitless parley, so the story goes, Shekau tried to kill himself—and some within ISWA leadership—using a su***de vest. Another version has it that he shot himself in the chest, and a few of his followers escaped with the badly wounded Shekau, living to fight another day.

Gov Ortom demands release of 40 repentant militias arrested by military after killing of Gana

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has urged the military to set free 40 repentant militias it arrested and kept in custody after killing Terwase Akwaza, alias Gana.

The governor, equally called on the military to release some official vehicles it purportedly confiscated.

Gana, a notorious criminal and the 40 other militias had accepted Governor Ortom’s amnesty to criminals in the state and were being transported with the official vehicles to the government House in Makurdi when they were stopped by the military.

Gana was shot dead while the other 40 militias and the vehicles were reportedly arrested by the military.

Speaking to newsmen on Friday, after a five-hour security meeting at the Government House Makurdi, Ortom said the call for the release of the repentant militias was important to enable them embrace the amnesty programme of the state government.

He said, “It is the resolve of this meeting, the expanded State Security Council meeting, that the repentant youths who were arrested by the military should be released so that they will continue from where they were coming to receive their amnesty and they were arrested.

“Also items that were confiscated, we are also appealing to the military to return them. Some of those vehicles were hired, some are official vehicles to our government officials. Some other things are documents. We appeal that all these be returned to us.”

The military had claimed that Gana was killed following a firefight on September 8, but Ortom maintained that soldiers snatched him from a government convoy conveying repentant militants in Gboko.
