The Queenstown International Marathon is proving to be just as popular for its 2019 event this year as it has in previous years. This fantastic annual event, fast building a reputation as a ‘destination marathon’, attracts participants from all over the New Zealand and the world with the majority of entries coming from people well outside of the Queenstown Lakes District.

Previous years events have included participants from Australia, America, the UK, Hong Kong and Singapore just to name a few. The influx of visitors the marathon brings to Queenstown means the hospitality and tourism sectors are set for a big weekend as athletes bring family and support crew along for the ride.

Air NZ Queenstown Marathon Sold Out – Race Director Thanks Community for Their Continued Engagement

The 2019 Air New Zealand Queenstown International Marathon has put the ‘Full-House’ sign up, with the Cigna 10km, New Zealand Sotheby’s International Realty Half Marathon and now the Air New Zealand Marathon all sold out (confirming it as the largest marathon event in New Zealand), with just a handful of entries left in the Queenstown Airport Kids Run for the November 16 event.

Race Director Nicole Fairweather is delighted at the continued growth of the event, with a new record of over 12,000 participants expected to line up across the four events on offer on Saturday week (allowing for further Kids Run entries).

Browsing through Facebook eight weeks ago, I noticed a competition on the Air New Zealand page to win a trip for two to the Queenstown Marathon – all expenses paid including flights, accommodation and dinner at one of Queenstown’s top restaurants, Rata. I entered, not expecting to hear anything back. But a week later, I found out I’d won!
